I cannot believe this!

Stunned!

My kids have lost one year of school and are going to be paying for this for decades to come Sad

Genuinely every time I read one of the masses of very same school threads, feel like banging my head on wall about people not grasping it’s not about teachers “just” being vaccinated, as soon as schools re open it’s one massive pit of community transmission. Add to that people who’ve been vaccinated will be walking round, possibly quite liberally, potentially transmitting and the whole thing explodes again.
And no, I dont have the answer to that. No one does.
@Littlewhitedove2 if that is all she is being set you need to put in a complaint. To the teacher, the head, the governors or even Ofsted...
Most schools will be providing live lessons and work for the whole day/week.
They are now, but weren’t at all in the first lock down. My point was that @starrynight19 said they haven’t missed nearly a year of school.
My DD had no work set March-September, 2 isolations in autumn. Work set now but it’s nowhere near like being in school. So yes, by March I will have considered her to have missed all but 9 weeks of school

Maryann1975 · 27/01/2021 18:30

@Seasaltyhair He hadn’t had one single case in his school as his staff put in robust measures
Thing is, a school or childcare setting can put in all the robust measures they like, but if a child has COVID and sneezes and coughs over everyone else, all the hand washing and cleaning will make very little difference to the spread.
I have no scientific data for my theory, but if COVID hasn’t made it in to a school, I don’t think that’s down to how good the school is and everything to do with low transmission rates in the local area.

bumbleymummy · 27/01/2021 18:30

@ekidmxcl

Two of my dd's friends have lost their grannies to covid.
My children’s friends have lost grandparents to cancer and heart failure in recent months. Is Covid more tragic?
LAlady · 27/01/2021 18:30

I work in a school and we thought it was likely to be after Easter. Anything before that is a bonus.

We've had staff with coronavirus over Christmas. One in ICU. We have to make this as safe as possible with considerably reduced cases.

I'm in everyday regardless and I did previously think schools should stay open like the November lock down but seeing what colleagues have suffered, it was right to move to online learning - we need to wait until it is safer.

Even Gav said complaining to OFSTED was not appropriate (after putting his size 6 feet in it a few weeks ago...)

Ellieboolou33 · 27/01/2021 18:31

I thank my lucky stars that my kids can go to school full time, one child in my dd's class has not returned to school since last March, I really don't know how working parents are coping.

I'm not surprised that the March, in fact I'd say unless they meet the vaccination target it may well be END of March.

orangeblosssom · 27/01/2021 18:31

I'm sure they will be more damaged if we don't get this under control and their parents die.

@stuckinagut

I'm surprised the PM bothered with a press conference. The Unions have been dictating school closures and come 8th March, they will do what they want, not what the PM says.
Ha ha ha GrinGrin. The idea of a Tory government listening to the unions. They only closed schools 5when it became apparent that children attending schools was a big factor in the community transmission that was out of control and impacting the healthcare services to the point where they couldn't function. They don't give two hoots what teaching unions or any other unions say.

It's pretty much all mn is, these days.

I think this is more like it. Years 11,13,1 and 6 might go back on a rota before then maybe?

Hmm12121 · 27/01/2021 18:33

@Goodbye2020Hello2021 but 2 hours a week is not acceptable. It’s certainly not the norm now.

SleepingStandingUp · 27/01/2021 18:34

@dingledongle

My retired ndn are planning their travel back to their second home in Spain after their vaccination

Great while the rest of the working population are at home working and educating our kids Angry

Sounds fair to me- NOT!

And if you were in work and the kids were in school, that would make their holiday better somehow? Are you expecting them to help you out or sit on silence staring at the wall until you decide they can enjoy their life?

Why year 1?
Benjispruce2 · 27/01/2021 18:34

8/3,is 2 weeks after the vaccination deadline for the most vulnerable. It takes a couple of weeks to develop protection so it makes sense. This is not unexpected surely.

Yes I agree.

Having seen the latest numbers of cases and deaths, today’s news isn’t surprising.

A teacher friend sent me the attached (not from her school).

Maryann1975 · 27/01/2021 18:37

@FreekStar Nobody's children have lost a year of school
Maybe not a whole year then, but home leaning was very patchy and largely non existent For lots of children between March and September. Lots of bubble closures between September and December, again, home learning wasn’t always ideal in those circumstances and I’ve read about children who were sent home several times. And then no school this term until March.

That seems like Pretty much a whole year to me. All schools are not equal in how they have implemented home learning and not all children can adapt to learning from home as easily as others can.

I agree on Year 11/13 and Y6 but I’m pretty certain they will get YR back before Y1.
Blankscreen · 27/01/2021 18:37

Yes it's shit, yet it's boring, yes they have missed nearly a year but they all have.

Children with neglectful parents should be in school at the moment anyway

i would say accinating teachers should be a priority but it won't stop a massive surge in community cases if schools open too early.

People need to stop being so dramatic.

Chailatteplease · 27/01/2021 18:37

@Calmandmeasured1 isn’t a good point in that it’s not applicable to everyone. My DC had 6 weeks off between September and December because of classes closing with positive cases. They’ve barely been in at all since March and I’m sure others were in the same position.

They can plan all they like - but foreign travel for holidays is currently pretty much banned.

Parker why upload, what part of this letter do you think is important?
CallmeAngelina · 27/01/2021 18:38

I must have imagined teaching in school from September to Christmas then ?
Well, I was back in school on full timetable from the beginning of June.

EmilyEmmabob · 27/01/2021 18:39

I don't think anyone was 'stunned' at this information.

Just look at the figures.

It's been horrible, we are so close to the end now. The hysteria needs to stop, it doesn't change the horrible situation that some people are in - what we need to do is think about how to support. Both now and when we come out of lockdown.

We can't fall at the last hurdle, keep going!
