I cannot believe this!

Stunned!

My kids have lost one year of school and are going to be paying for this for decades to come Sad

@LittleBoPeep95

And when March comes, they will tell us they won't open until April.
Well, that is a point, especially if lockdown restrictions are eased on 22nd February.....but let's think positively.
DareIask · 27/01/2021 17:37

Do you have alternative plan to address the problem?

Thousands are dying.

doubleshotespresso · 27/01/2021 17:37

OP how are you so shocked? Just look at what's happening out there? And that's following weeks and weeks of lockdown - the vaccine rollout needs to play out, transmission needs reducing, teachers and staff need protecting or we will end up like this yet again before the end of the year.
The NHS is at breaking point - children can and will catch up, it's far from ideal but hugely necessary - there is no alternative at this point

I must have imagined teaching in school from September to Christmas then ?
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 27/01/2021 17:37

How can you be surprised and what do you expect? Also not a year as they were in sept to dec, in principle.
I think its great they have even given a possible date.
Vulnerable children have school places

sadpapercourtesan · 27/01/2021 17:38

JVT's comments about schools and Vallance's about mortality are the most disingenuous and shifty things I've seen since this whole mess started. They've both come across as straight shooters in the past.

I find that rather unsettling.

MercyBooth · 27/01/2021 17:38

Some children will be irreparably damaged

Yep. The ones who've lost parents for sure.

Exactly
PersonaNonGarter · 27/01/2021 17:39

Why the surprise? Don’t you follow the news?

dingledongle · 27/01/2021 17:39

My retired ndn are planning their travel back to their second home in Spain after their vaccination

Great while the rest of the working population are at home working and educating our kids Angry

Sounds fair to me- NOT!

Boris did say they will be helping Schools to help Children catch up on the lessons they have lost

dingledongle · 27/01/2021 17:40

My kids were self isolating for 4 weeks with school closures after October half term so they had about 6 weeks teaching starry

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 27/01/2021 17:41

@dinglesdongle well they can plan doesn't mean they will be able to do either
Do you really think kids should go back with the numbers we have at present

MoreMorelos · 27/01/2021 17:41

@LizFlowers lockdown is also extended until 8th March so that ship has sailed

Royalty2k · 27/01/2021 17:41

Yes my heart goes out to them 😟

Xerochrysum · 27/01/2021 17:41

Pretty much as expected, nothing unbelievable about this this. I'm quite stunned if people really expected the school to be open so soon.

Rowenasemolina · 27/01/2021 17:42

@GintyMcGinty

Yep. The ones who've lost parents for sure.

Yes they will.

So will those whose mental and physical health has been impacted.

And those whose development has been affected.
Those will never catch up on education.
Those who are living with neglectful and.or dangerous parents

The list of those who are affected includes and goes beyond the bereaved.

But you are completely ignoring the equal number who hate school and thrive at home with remote learning. School damages the mental health of many children. School playgrounds and school buses are dangerous places were physical and mental abuse can happen. Etc etc. The list of those affected includes and goes way beyond those affected negatively
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 27/01/2021 17:42

@dinglesdongle they would of had online provision though and loads of others have had the same.
There isn't really a choice though is there , what you want them all in and numbers and deaths stay high and the nhs continues to struggle.
Yes its shit but there isn't an alternative

Stokey · 27/01/2021 17:42

If you're stunned, you haven't been paying attention. I'm surprised they haven't just said after Easter.

I don't think your kids will be paying for this for decades to come. Everyone is in basically the same situation. It's not great but I saw the way Covid spread through our primary school in December and don't want that happening again.

HelloMissus · 27/01/2021 17:43

I suspected as much which is why we didn’t even try to homeschool this time - just took up our place at the earliest date.

starrynight19 · 27/01/2021 17:43

@dingledongle

Are they having no online teaching now at all ?
Calmandmeasured1 · 27/01/2021 17:43

Really. Do you not read on-line papers or TV news? Surprised if you have only just become aware of it.

My kids have lost one year of school and are going to be paying for this for decades to come
Oh no, not your" kids. Let"s open up the schools now and let the virus run amok, let hospitals be overwhelmed and let more people due then because your* kids have missed school. Everyone's kids have missed school!

The PM does not want schools shut. He had to be persuaded to close them and he has said they will reopen to pupils at the earliest safe opportunity and before other things. That is the best anyone in Govt can do.

All taxpayers will be paying for this for a long time including pensioners who pay tax on their income. It's tough but that's how the country has always worked. Any money they spend is our money from taxes etc

Vaccines are rolling out fast.
Testing is extensive.
They are extending free school meal vouchers.
They are extended the increase in Universal Credit.
They're paying out furlough.
They are going to quarantine people arriving from countries considered unsafe regarding covid.

Ffs, do you want blood?

dingledongle · 27/01/2021 17:43

We are all in a storm but people are in different boats that is for sure Sad

CrackOpenTheGin · 27/01/2021 17:43

@LittleBoPeep95

And when March comes, they will tell us they won't open until April.
Hopefully! As I’d rather the first 6 categories were vaccinated before schools went back tbh
