Do you feel sorry for Boris?

Seeing the headlines in the papers today and there seems a lot of sympathy for him. The front pages see him looking really forlorn and sorrow regarding the death toll.

When you think a year ago he was planning on ushering in what he deemed as a golden age of Britain. Now 12 months later it's in tatters.

I can understand the sympathy, but wonder whether a Labour PM would be offered the same.

In the eyes of some people, Boris is a murderer, Frazzled. So you can certainly understand the hatred some people have towards him. (I wouldn't go that far myself, but I certainly think a case could be made against him for manslaughter. He is indirectly responsible for a lot of deaths, as he refused to follow scientific advice.)

I DID actually feel a teeny tiny bit sorry for him when he was admitted into ICU, even though it was his own fault for being so careless in the weeks before, but my brother and sister ripped the piss out of me for that. Anyway, that sympathy evaporated once it became clear he was making the same mistakes over and over again and not learning from them.

Yes, I feel for all those having to make decisions and have this pressure on them in governments across the world.

Even now so many won’t follow the rules, it must be hard to know that people aren’t pulling together even now.

Laquila · 27/01/2021 17:15

God grief no.

You can recognise that it's a tough job - havinf such a huge responsibility and the eyes of the world on you - whilst still thinking the current incumbent is a grasping, venal schemer who doesn't give a shit about most people in this country.

poppyzbrite4 · 27/01/2021 17:15
@poppyzbrite4 yes because I'm sure that's what he set out to do and was the plan all along.
You can't treat this like he's accidently bought semi skimmed instead of full fat. Whoopsies!! His incompetence has killed 100,000 people. I would hang my head in shame if I worked for those clowns. He obviously didn't have a plan and having the highest amount of Covid deaths is testament to that. He should resign but I can't imagine a Tory understanding why. Like Tories didn't understand why nurses reliant on food backs would need a pay rise, or why children in poverty would need help during a pandemic to eat. Vile.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/01/2021 17:18

The man won the last election by a landslide - he’s not going anywhere I’m afraid

I used to think the same, but having had his "moment of glory" and seen it trashed by circumstances and his own actions I'm frankly amazed he's still there

Without doubt he'll be planning what to do next - anyone would, venal politicians doubly so - but whether anyone else will want him remains to be seen

Myalternate · 27/01/2021 17:19

The virus has taken the lives of over 100,000 people.

the turning point at which lots of people decided they were going to just do whatever they wanted was the Barnard castle debacle. the pm could have sent a clear and decisive message about how the rules applied to everyone, and so do the consequences for flouting them, but he chose not to.
gildalilly · 27/01/2021 17:21

Nope

colouringindoors · 27/01/2021 17:21

Not for one f$%king nano-second. He's arrogant, ignorant, corrupt and morally banrupt. He now has tens of thousands of unavoidable deaths on his hands imho. Awful man.

CremeEggThief · 27/01/2021 17:22

Icecream, it's Boris's fault as well that the people aren't pulling together. Look at all of the mixed messages he's sent, right from the start. And don't get me started on Dominic Fucking Cummings, who I will spit on in the face if he ever comes into proximity to me, the evil cunt (his parents home us only about 3 miles away from where I live, so it's a possibility). Yes, two wrongs don't make a right and people should take more responsibility for their own actions, but a lot of people started doing what they liked all because of that vile creature and Boris standing by, condoning it.

chaoschaoschaos · 27/01/2021 17:25

Nah.

Also can't stand everyone calling him 'Boris' like he's their pal. He doesn't give a flying fook about you.

RubyGoat · 27/01/2021 17:27

I feel like I should - it's terribly unfortunate timing to become PM just before a pandemic - but actually, no, I don't feel sorry for him. He & his party have been stripping the country down to the bones & selling it to their mates for far too long. I'm sure he'll bounce back, his type usually do. The Dominic Cummings incident & lack of consequences set a precedent which undoubtedly cost lives.

wonderstuff · 27/01/2021 17:28
@wonderstuff I have relative in Australia. They got one case in their town who was a visitor. It's not quite the same is it? And their leisure / tourism industry has been ruined. Many people lost their jobs, my relative had to cut to 2 days a week and was only paid for those. He lost all his staff in his dept and now it's just him, but still nothing to do, because no one is visiting.
But we too were in a position where we had very, very low rates - while Austrailia closed borders, we kept ours open and didn't test anyone or ask anyone to isolate. In the summer our rates were very, very low, but again we just opened up, encouraged everyone out without a functioning test and trace.
Of course it's tragic that people have lost there jobs and tourism has taken such a big hit, but if they hadn't acted swiftly and closed down it would have been much worse - look at how much of our economy that is shut down at the moment - going to be very difficult for leisure, hospitality and retail to come back from this.

If more countries had done as those in SE Asia, NZ and Aus had done tourism globally would be in better shape, it's not the Australian government's fault that the global infection rates are forcing them to keep borders closed. Goodness knows what will be left of the airlines when all this is over.

Let's hope the vaccine roll out globally brings everyone to a better place next year.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 27/01/2021 17:30

C'mon @Frazzled99 let's not pretend that he humbly listened to all the advice given, and acted on it in the best interests of public safety. I'm not sure I can think of one instance in the last ten months when he's done the hard and right thing, at the right moment.

His desperation to veneer over the issues and convince us all that things were going well can't be ignored any longer. Many of his decisions are tantamount to manslaughter. But your main complaint is that we're saying mean things.

Again, words fail me, and again, this is why the cunt will be re-elected.

CremeEggThief · 27/01/2021 17:32

This thread is actually making me feel sick that there are still some people who still give Boris the benefit of the doubt.

As an Irish person who has lived here since 1996, the unearned respect some politicians (or people who are seen as 'above' the rest of us) command, just because they're politicians, really, really infuriates me. It is just so wrong!

There are politicians in every single country who DESERVE hatred, vitriol and loathing, and God knows I was taught to hate some from the age of 6, but yet it's almost subversive to say that out loud or online over here.

And this is why there will never be a revolution in this country, because most British people are too passive and just don't care enough, beyond their own families, friends and possibly, communities.

ilovesooty · 27/01/2021 17:33
@includewomeninsequel no there is a lot of hate , just read some of the comments but when people are questioned on something they write , they ignore it as often have nothing to back it up .
Unplugging life support I would say thats quite a nasty comment
I have backed up what I said. I've pointed out that it was well known and documented what kind of politician and man Johnson is well before the pandemic.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 27/01/2021 17:37

Right @ilovesooty ??

It's not like there isn't a TON of evidence. Enough for several years of public inquiries, I'd say....

ilovesooty · 27/01/2021 17:38
@PhilCornwall1 being honest doesn't make you a nice person
There you are
@PhilCornwall1

As far as this poster is concerned the not nice corner is filling up nicely.

ilovesooty · 27/01/2021 17:41
@vynldetective wherever it originated from its a very insensitive comment.
Some people may if had to do this for a loved one and I don't find things like this funny about anyone.
What did you think of Johnson's references to Operation Last Gasp then?

ByTheSea · 27/01/2021 17:41

No

CocoPark · 27/01/2021 17:42

I do to the extent that he's unlucky to have inherited an absolute crapper of a period in time. The polarization on these boards shows that he'd never please everyone.

I personally feel most sorry for all those at the sharpest end of these never-ending lockdown measures, facing a very very long road back from the fallout of all this.

Tumblebugsjump · 27/01/2021 17:45

NO

BonnieDundee · 27/01/2021 17:46

No

fib11235 · 27/01/2021 17:49

There was also the brilliant decision to let schools go back after Xmas and let everyone mix for 1 day before locking us down again just to ensure the Xmas cross contamination was complete - he’s not incompetent by accident that is my main issue with him, he is incompetent by design and time and time again has chosen badly which has resulted in lives lost and destroyed the nhs. No other country has done this badly for so long
