Do you feel sorry for Boris?

Seeing the headlines in the papers today and there seems a lot of sympathy for him. The front pages see him looking really forlorn and sorrow regarding the death toll.

When you think a year ago he was planning on ushering in what he deemed as a golden age of Britain. Now 12 months later it's in tatters.

I can understand the sympathy, but wonder whether a Labour PM would be offered the same.

Feel sorry for racist, liar Johnson?
No.

I hope he goes to prison for the billions he gave away in covid contracts for his mates. Thank God he left the vaccine rollout to the NHS, it's the only thing that's gone well..

You can't compare two Islands with a greater land mass but significantly lower population to the U.K. which has one of the highest population densities

U.K.
Size: 242, 495 Sq KM
Population 66.5M
Population density: 275 per Sq KM
COVID cases: 3,690,000
COVID deaths: 101,877

South Korea
Size: 38,724 Sq KM
Population: 51.27M
Population density: 525 per Sq KM
COVID cases: 65,478
COVID deaths: 1,378

I cant understand posters coming on to call other posters vile. You do realise Boris Johnson is a racist, cheating, liar who wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire? I can't understand why anyone would vote for the man, let alone feel sorry for him. He is the definition of vile. I wonder which is worse, 100 000 dead, many which could have been avoided or posters on MN stating he is incompetent and doesn't deserve sympathy. Hmmm, that's a tough one.....

Kendodd · 27/01/2021 17:54

The man won the last election by a landslide

Hows that working out for you Tory voters?

UK now has highest Covid death rate in the world
Nearly 1,000 people are dying each day on average in the UK.

The UK now has the highest death rate from Covid-19 of any country in the world, the latest data has revealed.

An average of 935 daily deaths in the UK over the last week was the equivalent of more than 16 people in every million dying each day from coronavirus.

Figures compiled by University of Oxford-based research platform Our World in Data show that no other country matches the UK’s per capita rate of deaths.

The UK overtook the Czech Republic, which had held the top spot since 11 January, after the government published the latest coronavirus deaths on Sunday night.

That's more than the States which had Trump at the helm. At least Bojo is winning at something; he's beaten Trump for sheer ineptitude and arrogance. And like Trump, he still has his cheerleaders.

Kendodd · 27/01/2021 17:57

who wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire?

Actually, if you were homeless, he might set you on fire just so he could piss on you. Or was it just fifty pound notes he liked to burn in front of homeless people?

Stellaris22 · 27/01/2021 17:59

100,000 deaths is ok but we better not complain or we're the ones that are horrible and nasty.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 27/01/2021 18:04

Laughable innit Stellaris. No wonder he's literally getting away with murder.

Kendodd · 27/01/2021 18:05

You know what upsets me the most about this? Johnson and co will all get away with it, they won't be blamed, not even for all the dodgy contracts they gave to their cronies, that cronies made a complete shambles of (well, if the goal was to enrich themselves they were actually very successful). The Johnson apologists will just make loads of excuses for them, bring out some nonsense about others being worse (with absolutely no evidence). No doubt Johnson and the Daily Mail etc will point the finger of blame elsewhere, it'll be the EU or immigrants or benefit claimants and his followers will nod along. I despair.

Ah yes, burning bank notes in front of homeless people. Sounds like a decent chap would should put in a position of power.

Now THAT is vile.

I believe this is what's known as a "mic drop".

Imissmoominmama · 27/01/2021 18:16

Nope.

Defenbaker · 27/01/2021 18:16

Yes, to an extent, as the strain of his position must be immense, but I also think he's made some poor decisions. He seems to be much more measured and serious in his approach these days, and I think the decision he's made to continue lockdown for another few weeks is the right one. Also, the decision to pre order vaccines long before they had been developed is one that is paying dividends now. That decision was a bold one that a less confident PM may have hesitated to make.

We have the highest death rate per capita in developed countries at the moment, but I think that will change over time, as the pandemic works through the population. Maybe in a couple of years we will look back on the statistics and find that we did better than many other countries, but it's far too early to know, at this stage.

saffire · 27/01/2021 18:21

I do.

Oversize · 27/01/2021 18:25

Nope.
Incompetent shitehawk.
I'm so very angry about his stupid decisions and the number of lives they've cost.

XazieRose · 27/01/2021 18:42

Not a hot. He’s brought it all on himself with his hubris. The pity is so many have to suffer for his arrogance and failings.

XazieRose · 27/01/2021 18:42

Not a jot*

BIWI · 27/01/2021 18:42

@lollipoprainbow

Yes I do, he has the weight of the world on his shoulders and all people can do is twist the knife constantly, I wonder what other people would have done better in his shoes.
Hmm. Let's think. How about listening to the advice he has been given from all the various experts, and making timely decisions?

Just for a start ...

wonderstuff · 27/01/2021 18:45

We have the highest death rate per capita in the world and we're an island!

Things I would have done/wanted done - lock down earlier - when Cheltenham was happening and that big football match in March - many, many people were saying that we should have stopped big events, infact the FA moved to shut down events before the government. Schools too should have closed earlier, were I am, in London commuter belt, we had very low attendance in the 2 weeks before lockdown - the roads were quieter too, London recovered quickly because it was obvious before the government lockdown that things were bad - you only had to look at the news from Italy and the increase in people in hospital.

Track and trace should have been a state controlled, locally run venture - we got rates very, very low over the summer and yet they didn't even predict the increased demand for testing in September. It was a complete sham and still needs to be improved - it was a much more reliable way out than the vaccine program and has never been taken seriously by government. Seems to be a cash cow for thier donors - like so many other things.

Close schools for 2 weeks over October half term and coincide with national lockdown - crazy that the second lockdown didn't include schools.

I think many, many people thought the idea of people coming together for Christmas was complete madness.

I would not have threatened local authorities who wanted to close schools early due to local infection levels with legal action and force them open.

Opening for a day after Christmas was madness - completely irresponsible - many people felt schools open before christmas was getting risky - unions effectively forced the u-turn - why he won't work with them is just bloody minded.

Currently we have only a quarter of people with symptoms getting testing and isolating - why? because they can't afford not to work and/or can't access online shopping - Hancock has a sensible solution - £500 a week payment to isolate - they need to just do it. They also need track and trace to support with food parcels when needed - problem solved. Back it up with huge fines for any employer who behaves like the DVLA and insists on office working when it isn't needed and/or instructs people to turn off track and trace app when at work.

Vaccines have gone well, furlough scheme was a god-send for us in first lockdown and I'm sure many others - do need to extend it sharpish though. NHS have coped really well and schools are in better shape this lockdown than last - it's not all be terrible - but a lot of very poor decisions that have clearly cost too many lives.

Reading through our school contacts record today the number of kids with close family in hospital or recently bereaved is heart-breaking.

Putting aside any politics
Yes I have degree of compassion for him
It’s a shitty role and horrible thing to contemplate
As I don’t think intentions were deathly
So yes I do

LouLou198 · 27/01/2021 18:49

No, and his sad face is annoying me.

poppyzbrite4 · 27/01/2021 18:51

I think this is the video you meant to link to. Demonstrating a catalogue of errors and incompetence.
