The Express reports:
"No indication has been given as to why the briefing has suddenly been called, however, it comes less than 24 hours after false reports in the German media caused alarm by claiming the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine was ineffective among over-65s."

It could also be to make the announcement about hotel quarantining for those entering the country. I would imagine both subjects.

Don't they need to review the lockdown arrangements every three weeks? Might it be the outcome of the first one of those?

Every time there's a thread saying the PM is about to do a press conference there's posts saying 'hopefully it will be his resignation'.
Why do people think he would do that when all it's going to be is some more info re the pandemic?

I think it's more hope than expectation.

Given that it was announced at 9am Boris would be appearing, the government have done well to keep whatever from being leaked, if it's something we don't already know amount.

It will be just to correct whatever nonsense the gutter press has got everyone into a tiswas about today.

Plus some accurate data from the medics. As he won't be flying solo will he?

I'm nervous for this one. I'm not normally, as we usually hear bits and pieces before the actual press conference, to put together a picture of what will be on the agenda.

However, after BJs last press conference, where he came out all breathy and lead with "we have reasons to believe the new variant may have a higher mortality rate" 😧 !!! I'm feeling a bit panicky about this one.
