The Express reports:
"No indication has been given as to why the briefing has suddenly been called, however, it comes less than 24 hours after false reports in the German media caused alarm by claiming the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine was ineffective among over-65s."

It could also be to make the announcement about hotel quarantining for those entering the country. I would imagine both subjects.

Whilst it's true mistakes and delays may have made things worse, you really can't say he's responsible for all deaths! That's a step too far, even for the most rabid Boris hater.

We have the highest death rate per capita of any major nation. The only countries with worse figures are Belgium (which is hugely densely populated) and Slovenia.

These kinds of simple stats don't lie. They've fucked it big time.

RedToothBrush · 26/01/2021 17:25

@Viviennemary

I'm really glad I voted out of the EU. It's shocking they are using vaccines as a weapon. Though I'm afraid it doesn't surprise me.
For the record, this is bollocks too.
chomalungma · 26/01/2021 17:25

Tomorrow's PMQs will be interesting.

100,000 deaths and you think you did everything you could?

BananaPop2020 · 26/01/2021 17:25

@CuriousaboutSamphire, the Government’s ambivalence, hesitation and reluctance to act is directly behind a huge number of deaths.

SnowDaysAndFunDays · 26/01/2021 17:25

I though it was external exams that had been cancelled but that there has been talk of internal exams which were essentially the same

JiminyLeeCricket · 26/01/2021 17:25

Errr, ummmm, errrrr ...... That's our prime minister, that is.

PaddyF0dder · 26/01/2021 17:25

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Worst death rate in the world.

In. The. World.

So yeah. Give me the in-bred social capital necessary to be a Tory PM and I’m absolutely confident I would do a better job.

peak2021 · 26/01/2021 17:25

@CuriousaboutSamphire I know I could have done a better job. I know many others who could have done.

I know Jeremy Hunt or Michael Gove would have done a better job. At least 10,000 fewer deaths.

thedancingbear · 26/01/2021 17:26

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Oh stop. He hasn't killed anyone, a fucking virus has.

And no... I didn't vote for him and I don't think our government has done any better or any worse than any comparable country.

An unbiased read of world news tells you that!

And, again, the real numbers won't be known anywhere for a few years, and even then it will remain a best guess, given how many different recording procedures are being used.

It's depressing enough without politically based finger pointing.

Stand up and do the job if you think you could have done better, in real time, no hindsight.

Yes, I think I could've done better. So could lots of people with two brain cells to rub together. Genuinely.

I consider myself to be old Labour but would've happily given the Tories a huge pat on the back if they'd managed this situation well. There but for the grace of god etc. But they have been disastrously incompetent throughout.

Totally agree so many thinking they are experts and could do better

I've never been convinced by Hunt. I would differ massively on economic policy from Gove (or any Tory you care to name) but he has integrity and is hugely intelligent. He'd have done miles better.

thedancingbear · 26/01/2021 17:28

I see Tory HQ is out in defence.

JiminyLeeCricket · 26/01/2021 17:28

Anyone who hadn't put Dido Harding in charge of anything would have done a better job.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/01/2021 17:29

His roots need retouching. In amongst the haystack.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/01/2021 17:29

Christ! Even those wanting to blame one man can't agree what the current stats mean!

GabsAlot · 26/01/2021 17:29

so hes waffling about nothing again is he

JiminyLeeCricket · 26/01/2021 17:30

The Spad-u-likes can say what they will, but they can't defend the indefensible.

GabsAlot · 26/01/2021 17:30

i thought there was mean tto be a review about now

BananaPop2020 · 26/01/2021 17:31

@thedancingbear you are so right. We elect a Government and the very essence of that process is accountability.

GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 26/01/2021 17:31

I don't know how the Head of the Health Service can stand there and not shout bullshit at Johnson over how much the Government have cherished and invested in the NHS

CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/01/2021 17:31

Gove????

Fucking hell!

Some of you have very short memories, or no kids in education over the last decade!

Intelligent my arse!

StealthPolarBear · 26/01/2021 17:32

Gabs do you mean of lockdown? It looks as though that no longer is every three weeks. No idea how and when that changed.

thedancingbear · 26/01/2021 17:32

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Christ! Even those wanting to blame one man can't agree what the current stats mean!
What on earth are you talking about? We are unanimous that the UK has the worst per capita fatality rate of any major nation.

This is a matter of brute fact. How are you going to spin that one?

minibike · 26/01/2021 17:32

@PatsyStone39

Hopefully he's following the Italian PM and resigning!
Every thread this is said. It's so tiring.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 26/01/2021 17:33

Read back the thread bear... I'm not spinning anything....
