I’m

  • closing the borders instantly
  • vaccinating all school staff and all adults who live with school children.

You?

I'm giving community service to rule breakers and starting work on a national social housing build to inject the economy.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/01/2021 09:41

I’m running a national education campaign about the importance of ventilation in reducing transmission. I might just tack it onto Hands, face, space so as not to confuse people- hands, face, space, AIR.

whatswithtodaytoday · 25/01/2021 09:48

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel Dr John Campbell has got there first - Hands, Face, Space, Ventilate. God knows why the government aren't using it... probably so people don't realise their 'Covid secure' workplaces are dangerous.

Frequentflier · 25/01/2021 09:52

Making masks mandatory outside for everybody and in schools for secondary students. Other countries seem to manage it.

ScaredOfDinosaurs · 25/01/2021 10:22

Add the nursery staff to the priority list for the vaccine too, they are just as vulnerable as the school staff and typically are not unionized.

I’m telling you to do one, and get real.

I'm magically waving my wand like the OP and forgetting that life is not that simple and logistics are a pure figment of my imagination.

Job done. Covid no longer is a problem.

If we all believe in fairies then they will exist.

Theunamedcat · 25/01/2021 10:26

Work from home of possible YES THAT MEANS YOU the amount of workplaces claiming they need to have staff in when they can actually work remotely is ridiculous fine if your staff arnt working pull them in but if they can and are willing to then let them work from home

Haha I was thinking the same. Adults etc will be vaccinated.. it's just a matter of time
DinosaurDiana · 25/01/2021 10:29

Close the borders.
Vaccinate school and nursery staff.
High schools in with kids wearing masks, teachers visors when teaching, masks otherwise. Fresh air blowing through classrooms. Hand washing and gel mandatory.
Masks in all shops. Click and collect for those who can’t/won’t wear masks.

Mousehole10 · 25/01/2021 10:32

If I’m honest I wouldn’t change anything about the vaccine rollout. They are actually doing a good job and getting through the people who need it most quickly.

I would keep lockdown as it is until mid February, then have rotor system for schools with pupils going in for half weeks and learning at home for the other half. I would also allow people to see close family inside, just one household at a time. This would hopefully mean people will comply with the rules for longer, rather than being completely done with it and seeing whoever and however many people they like.

Robbybobtail · 25/01/2021 10:33

I'm giving community service to rule breakers

Thank god there’s no chance of you ever being in charge then.

Bewareoftheblob · 25/01/2021 10:36

I'm gathering up everyone who wants to keep us in our houses for years on end and dropping them in the sea.

Making everyone work from home. Stricter policies in place to punish workplaces who were fine to work from home in March but now can't be bothered.

Definitely boarder closures and much stricter quarantine rules.

Prioritise vaccinating teachers and other workforce. I know why they're not, but longterm I think it's best.

Lelophants · 25/01/2021 10:47

And yes masks mandatory outside so people stop and think a bit more before go out.

PregnantGotCovid · 25/01/2021 10:49

Big fines for employers who refuse to let people work from home even though they could.

Arboria · 25/01/2021 10:50

Boris today saying he’s going to relax some measures before mid-February

🤦🏼🤦🏼🤦🏼

When I’m in charge I will absolutely have a magic wand. (Those things are as likely as each other.)

But until then there’s nothing wrong with having a wish list. Those are mine.

I would be Handing the decisions back to people who believe in balancing harms, the hierarchy of evidence not precautionary principle nor "expert opinion"

If I must have an opinion on what to do first, great support for those meant to be self-isolating would be near top of my list.

I'm going to listen to the medical experts and not leave the second vaccine dose longer than we know works. I am demanding employers allow people to work from home unless they are proper jet workers. I am giving all NHS staff and teachers a pay rise and keeping my fingers private sector employers of proper key workers follow suit. I am shutting borders until everyone is vaccinated.

That's what they said about Trump.

No fines from me for popping out to a pals party, clearing PPE litter outside the hospital or car park marshal. Angry

ferretface · 25/01/2021 11:00

I'm launching a massive investment programme in health to:

-build new hospitals and expand capacity
-bring more people into the profession - train more HCAs in specific aspects of respiratory and covid care initially but over the longer term really work at getting the workforce capacity we need, pay staff more
-fight obesity

I'm closing the borders
I'm throwing everything at vaccinating the population (tbf think this is already happening)

I'm asking my civil servants to look at ways of incentivising people to stay at home and stop the spread rather than new ways of punishing them

I'm creating an government backed insurance system for the events industry
I'm looking at ways to support shuttered businesses with their fixed costs as well as supporting furlough

I'm going full Keynesian with my economics and will spend as much as it takes!
