Let Vaccinated People Out?

cheesey123 · 24/01/2021 16:05

Why don't they say everyone that have been vaccinated can start getting out more & help start the economy back up? Why do they still have to stay in??

Because they can still catch and transmit it to others. The vaccine just means they’ll be less ill if they catch it.

TH22 · 24/01/2021 16:10

Because if you had read what the vaccine does, you would know that it doesn't stop the spread of the virus. All it does is reduce the severity of the symptoms in those that catch the virus after having have had the vaccine (and not even in every case). As is stands, there have not been enough people vaccinated to stop the NHS being potentially overwhelmed. Do your research.

Northernsoullover · 24/01/2021 16:10

Out where? Coffee shops with unvaccinated staff working? Shops? We need large swathes of the population to be vaccinated before we can go out again

unicornparty · 24/01/2021 16:11

Because they can spread it. How did you not know this?

MRex · 24/01/2021 16:11

Everyone needs to wait to get second jabs and let those kick in. They also need to wait for the herd immunity threshold (70%), because vaccines aren't 100% effective so a snap proportion of people will still be vulnerable.

EleanorShell · 24/01/2021 16:13

People at low risk of complications have been told repeatedly to stay in to protect the people at higher risk. I can't imagine anyone continuing to comply with the rules if those that we have been told to protect for 10 months are allowed out while people who have been lower risk of complications all along are still in lockdown

SpnBaby1967 · 24/01/2021 16:14

Because they're all in their 80s and 90s and a bit old to be working.

They need to let the 20's through 60s out to work and get the economy going!

Pumpertrumper · 24/01/2021 16:15

Because;

A- they still carry it and can easily spread it
B- only first doses have been administered which (dependant on type) is approx 60% ish effective.
C- those who have received it so far are either very old, very vulnerable or working frontline trying to stop all the poor sods who ‘aren’t enough of a priority to be vaccinated’ from dying.
D- All the non essential economy elements you’re talking about ‘shops, cafes, bars...etc’ are heavily staffed by people who havn't qualified for the vaccine. Horribly irresponsible for them to be out mixing without need right now.

So essentially you might find one staff member at a trendy local bar who has had the vaccine could turn up and serve drinks to the 3 people who have the time/inclination to go to a trendy bar and also happen to have been vaccinated Hmm are you beginning to see the flaw in this plan?

dementedpixie · 24/01/2021 16:15

Most will only have had 1 jab too so won't be fully protected yet

Phymp · 24/01/2021 16:18

Well they don't actually know yet whether you can still transmit the disease, probably not, but that is the assumption until there is data to prove otherwise.

It's a useful tactic because otherwise it would be very divisive for there to be a set of rules applying to those who are unvaccinated simply because they are waiting in the queue.
We are all in a very long queue.........

cheesey123 · 24/01/2021 16:22

It was just a question!!!! & someone like myself who suffers with bad anxiety anyway doesn't read the news & papers etc as it's not good got my mental health! It was just a question 🙄

If they did that then they would also have to let people who have had it out I guess.

ChocOrange1 · 24/01/2021 16:25

A- they still carry it and can easily spread it
We don't know whether they can spread it or not. The likelihood is that they cannot, as with every other vaccine in history, but as they don't know for sure they need to wait and see before letting people go about their business.

To be honest I think the main reason is because it wouldn't be "fair" on the unvaccinated and there would be uproar if vaccinated people were allowed to visit family and unvaccinated people weren't.

Tryingtryingandtrying · 24/01/2021 16:26

And I suppose that as the vaccine only makes you less likely to die of it, and not actually immune then they would also have to let everyone unlikely to die if it out.

cheesey123 · 24/01/2021 16:27

@ChocOrange1 thanks for your reply it was just a question & some people have bit my head off lol what you've said does make sense thank you

Oh god can you imagine the fall out from that?!?!

Betty here is 83, has 4 different health conditions and has been shielding since March. Her neighbour, Sarah, is 34, has 3 kids under 10 and hasn't seen her mother since July. Sarah has trapped her family indoors except for their daily walk so people like the woman who cares for Betty doesnt get coronavirus.

Betty got her vaccine 3 weeks ago and now goes to see her family twice a week, has a coffee in the local cafe with her bestie who also has the vaccine, and has booked a holiday to Lourdes. She doesnt really think about infecting her carer with coronavirus as all that matters is she wont be affected by the virus. Sarah has a telephone appt with the GP on Tuesday to speak about antidepressants and might be released from house arrest by september.

Ye. I dont think so.

maddiemookins16mum · 24/01/2021 16:33

Errr...I’ll tell my 87 year old MIL to get herself down the labour exchange for 9am tomorrow then.

lockdownbreakdown · 24/01/2021 16:34

Because virtually no one is actually vaccinated! They are partially vaccinated and the efficacy of one dose doesnt appear to be that high. I now know several people who are three to four weeks out from the first jab who have just caught covid and are sick. They are pretty stunned to be honest as they thought they were pretty safe. Turns out they are not!

Markies · 24/01/2021 16:38

They can still catch it. Care home local to me had all residents vaccinated before Christmas. Almost all residents have tested positive since the jab and thankfully only showing minor symptoms. The vaccine does not stop you catching it therefore it does not stop you transmitting it.🙄

Thewiseoneincognito · 24/01/2021 16:39

OP May I gently suggest you don’t come to the coronavirus threads if you have anxiety. You’re not going to do yourself any favours. Just follow the guidelines and stay safe.

Incubation period is about 6-7 days, so they haven't "just" caught it. They probably caught it about a week ago. And it's been pretty widely recognised that the vaccine isn't effective for a few weeks, and then it is around 60% effective. People are quite stupid if they think they can just go out and never catch covid.

The vaccine isn't supposed to stop anyone ever getting covid. It's supposed to keep levels low enough that the NHS can cope.

frozendaisy · 24/01/2021 16:41

Because there would be uproar basically.

frozendaisy · 24/01/2021 16:43

On the plus side this is surely part of the reason for the desire to vaccinate everyone as quickly as possible.

So we can all go out.
