Vaccine priority group 6 and high BMI

Does anyone know whether individuals with high BMI are included in vaccine priority group 6, and (if so) what the BMI cut off is? I'm looking into this for a family member, but struggling to find any official info. Thanks.

Rowenasemolina. I said I wouldn’t either and I did.

I've always been a yo-yo dieter, able to lose a lot of weight, keep it off for a year or two but then put it all on again. Since developing CFS after pneumonia in April 2019 and then long Covid during the last year, it's become much harder to find the motivation.

There are also MH issues involved (PTSD and anxiety), which have led to me binge eating and then an ED a few years ago.

And yes, at times when I was slim (I was a size 10 when I got married), I used to be so sure that I would never put the weight on again. Sadly, as yet I haven't managed to keep the well off long-term.

If you can, congratulations! But please be aware that other people may have reasons you don't know about as to why they don't find a way to keep the weight off long-term.

You might have done but I wont

Bmi of 40+ is a risk but as far as I understand there are no plans to include them to be vaccinated earlier. Since March I've reduced my BMI from 48 to 31. Has your relative been trying to reduce theirs?
Wow - well done, that's a considerable amount!
PowerslidePanda · 27/01/2021 12:55

Wow - all the people labelling @Rowenasemolina nasty and judgemental, whilst simultaneously dismissing her achievement and telling her she won't the keep the weight off anyway - do you not see the irony there?!

Some people are overweight for genuine medical reasons (both mental and physical). Others are overweight because of lack of discipline. Given the rates of obesity in this country versus the rates of medical causes of obesity, there are clearly quite a number of people who fall into the second group. And yet far fewer who will admit it - much easier to claim it's for reasons beyond their control. Which is a dis-service to those for whom that genuinely is the case - who's to know if it's a credible claim?

So if people want better recognition of the fact that some people truly can't control their weight, refusing to acknowledge the group of people who simply can't be arsed really doesn't help matters!

@Rowenasemolina that's a really amazing achievement, just wanted to say I'm really impressed as I imagine it is very hard. I can't even lose the 2kgs I put on over Xmas so just in awe of people losing 20+ kgs.

Lordamighty · 27/01/2021 13:15

@Rowenasemolina congratulations on your weight loss & take no notice of the mean girls telling you that you will pile it back on.

@DragonPoop

I’ve dropped my bmi from 62 to 38 in the past year. I’m hoping if I catch COVID the risk that I will be seriously ill will now be lessened. I do believe anyone with a 40+ bmi is in group 6 op - can you ring the persons GP surgery and ask, it would also mean they won’t fall through the cracks if there current weight/bmi isn’t on the system (which happens a lot I believe)
Bloody hell, you’ve achieved an amazing feat dropping your BMI that much, very impressive!
AuldFox · 27/01/2021 13:26

@Rowenasemolina well done and wishing all the best for maintaining your healthy weight!

@FatCatThinCat

Shame there's no vaccine to protect against being a judgmental dickhead.
