For all your vaccine news, treatment development stories and other positive things to make you feel there is hope for the future!
Good news only please!

Useful websites we are referring to a lot:

Government daily statistics

Worldometer for international case number comparisons

Covid Messenger for local authority figures, thanks to LittleOwl for all her hard work!

OurWorldInData international vaccination figures

Omnicalculator vaccine queue calculator NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

This is Bert. He will grow and he will become strong. He will tower over the zebra in his paddock ❤

TheSunIsStillShining · 29/01/2021 00:14
@TheSunIsStillShining but Matt Hancock also says that once approved the NHS is set to roll it out as quickly as possible (on that link). It also uses a plant based ingredient which could mean excellent news for those with allergies unable to receive any of the current vaccines.
Not disputing any of that, just not going to hold my breath for it.
The plant base is extra good, just hope that by the time they have it shipped we'll be in a position to reserve it really for those w/allergies.

TheSunIsStillShining · 29/01/2021 00:16

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum
no, you didn't say conspiracy, but the internet has a way of turning it around easily.
I wish I knew more about current pharma manufacturing capabilities in Europe. Last I checked it was same in most countries to HU - downscaling and taking it to cheaper countries. Looked around on wikipedia, and it looks like the tide might have turned a few years back.
If anyone has insider knowledge, I'd be happy to hear it :)

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 29/01/2021 00:25

The allergy side is good news. My husband has an issue with a anesthetic. Can't remember the name but anyway we are wondering if that will stop him getting jabbed. Pfizer is definitely a big no. The oxford is probably ok. We will have to see what they say at nearer the time. Grumpy git is in the 50s group. So a little while to wait and research.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 29/01/2021 00:29

All the snow melted but I still have some pretty pictures. Love the snow. Though this year glad it didn't last long here because we need people to get to those vaccination centres ⛄💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉💉

Furries · 29/01/2021 02:07

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum - very jealous of the snow!

Bert is a very handsome chap at such a young age. Is he expensive to feed/insure? How much exercise will he need? Is food expensive? And is he ok around cats? These are important questions - though I may be getting mixed up with Great Danes 🦒💕

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 29/01/2021 02:12

Sorry ☀️ I forgot to answer your question. Only just noticed whilst up feeding the baby 🍼

German Pharmaceuticals exports are worth around 35,000 million pounds a year.

There are roughly 500 drug manufacturers, employing 120,000 people in Germany. Some are tiny but 10% are big. Couldn't tell you if they out source the making a lot but they do still have plants too.

Fairly irrelevant anyway as like us they are building massive new facilities as quickly as possible. The older places being explained won't suit the product needs on such an epic scale.

These new deals will obviously strengthen a large existing pharmaceutical industry.

I remember finding out my fathers cancer results were being sent to Germany a surprise. However it turns out there analysis for rare cancers is stonkingly good. So I presume that also means a lot of research facilities too.

@Furries
Bert just needs joy and happiness to keep him going. Plus a ton of fruit and vegetables. He is a strong believer in spreading love and light. He is planning on taking up yoga at some point 🥰

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 29/01/2021 02:53

From the BBC NEWS WEBSITE

Stan Erck, chief executive of Novavax, said the results from the UK trial were "spectacular" and "as good as we could have hoped", while the efficacy in South Africa was "above people's expectations".

He told the BBC the manufacturing plant in Stockton-on-Tees should be up and running by March or April, with the company hoping to get approval for the vaccine from the MHRA around the same time.

(What up and running actually means who knows)

Am loving the idea of giraffe yoga! And fingers crossed re good progression re another new vaccine.

Am trying to remember how I felt last July/August re negativity around vaccines and that it was a fairly hopeless cause for the next year at least. Hopefully appreciation for science will increase, followed by measured efforts re funding/red tape etc. Obviously not on this scale, but maybe a realisation that joint efforts with less bureaucracy could be beneficial.

FourTeaFallOut · 29/01/2021 04:13

My appointment just became available on the booking system. (I tried to find a weekend appointment to bump the figures Blush but Monday it is! Grin)

Furries · 29/01/2021 04:32

@FourTeaFallOut - brilliant, good luck for Monday!

FourTeaFallOut · 29/01/2021 04:35

Thanks!Smile

BertieBassettsBabe · 29/01/2021 05:58

Thank you for all your good wishes. 🙂

Still not heard, the swift queue website has appointments for over 70’s, but no mention of the CEV.

Still waiting for the text/letter/call.

I’m still having to go to work at my school. I try to be as careful as I can, but constantly terrified that I will pass something on to him.

FourTeaFallOut · 29/01/2021 06:01

Keep checking, mine wasn't available yesterday morning and I'm only eligible as cev.

MadisonAvenue · 29/01/2021 06:54

We haven’t been told to book online, apparently surgery staff are calling to make the appointments which seems to be wasting their time if there’s a way to do it ourselves.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 29/01/2021 08:18

Hey there Bert!

Do you happen to have a brother named Ernie? Smile

2fallsagain · 29/01/2021 08:24

Not sure if this has been posted but this is an interview with AZ CEO about supply chains, Europe row and efficacy questions.

I love the idea of giraffe yoga. I have the feeling Bert will be very good at it.

Pfizer used to have a facility in Sandwich, Kent, which closed a few years ago. Bummer. It would have been useful now. I wonder what happened to the building?

Madison I really hope you get your appointments soon. 🤞🤞

@FuzzyPuffling

HE'S GOT IT BOOKED!

Saturday week. Coincidentally, the same date as he had his stem cell transplant. For those that asked. He's 55 and CEV.
I am so relieved. And bless him, he just said " but we need to get you yours".

I am late to the party, but just saw this and have a huge smile on my face (and a tear in my eye). SO SO SO happy for you Fuzzy!
LetItGoGo · 29/01/2021 09:32

@Level75 Thankyou.

I had a real wobble last night with anxiety. Yet I know the news on these vaccines is good. Together with the expansion in production facilities.
"Bivalent vaccines" cheered me right up.

starfish88 · 29/01/2021 09:40

So happy for you @FuzzyPuffling, that must be a relief!

InterfectoremVulpes · 29/01/2021 09:47

Small fun fact - I only found out a couple of weeks ago that owls have long legs! Makes sense now, but never thought about it before. I’m easily pleased

😲

Also, baby owls sleep face down because their heads are too heavy to hold up 😄

FourTeaFallOut · 29/01/2021 09:50

That owl looks like a lot like my teen in strop mode Grin
