If you are a front line worker, have you had your vaccine yet?

And if so, when and what is your role?

I was quite surprised to be asked to book a vaccine, I work in a health and social care role and surprised to hear of others in professions such as dentists and paramedics etc who haven't yet been invited to book theirs.

I hope those who are in roles working closely with the public, particularly in health care/ caring services get their invite soon! I feel guilty taking up a place knowing others in a vulnerable setting havent yet had the opportunity to book theirs.

Invite was not from GP but from local area team where I work. GP not involved at all for me.

Bashitcrazy · 21/01/2021 21:59

I work in community pharmacy, and was able to have mine last weekend.

Justcurious93 · 21/01/2021 22:00

Had mine last week :) Pfizer. Felt a bit unwell the day after but it passed really quickly. I know my Trust has done over 3000 staff already!

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 21/01/2021 22:01

Teacher. No one cares whether we get them or not. Social workers who are too scared to go into schools and have been working from home, have had their's in our area.

calmearth · 21/01/2021 22:03

Frontline radiographer. I had mine this week. We had 2 days notice to book within a 4 day window. We were promised it 6 weeks ago.

doublemix · 21/01/2021 22:03

I'm a Dispensing optician in a very busy high street opticians I'm booked in next Tuesday and feel horribly guilty to be booked in before elderly PILs etc. We are very close to upwards of 100-150 people a day though well within a metre 3 of our opticians have tested positive in the last few months despite full PPE.

ImAVaccinator · 21/01/2021 22:05

As per my nn I'm currently a vaccinator in a mass vaccination centre and had my first 5 weeks ago now.

PrivateHall · 21/01/2021 22:13

In my area, no visitors are allowed into schools which is pretty sensible; we should be minimising people moving through multiple schools. It isn't about being 'scared', please don't be so condescending.

I am a midwife and a vaccinator and had the pfizer vaccine a few weeks ago. I already caught covid from a patient months ago so I am sure some will say I shouldn't have had it. However imo everyone called should go for it, it benefits everyone, not just the recipient.

mrdobalinamrbobdobalina · 21/01/2021 22:17

Community OT doing multiple face to face visits including to covid +ve clients.
In my trust they vaccinated all ECV and at risk staff first alongside ICU etc, then offered it out to everyone.
I guess different trusts / different areas are are going at different paces. So if one one is speeding through them, the less "at risk" ones will get them done more quickly.

BlueistheNewme · 21/01/2021 22:21

I had Pfizer this week, social care worker. NHS and social care staff were able to book places. Local authority in Wales.

Mummydoctor · 21/01/2021 22:24

@Isla2021 we haven’t had any wasted as yet, but it has been a bit difficult to get people in last minute for the extra doses. There are rumours that places around the country have been forced to throw away doses due to NHSE not wanting 2nd doses to be given less than 12 weeks after the 1st dose...

FrankiesKnuckle · 21/01/2021 22:25

Paramedic. Had mine last week.
Rough guess is the trust I work for have around 50% of staff vaccinated.
Personally, I think anyone in a public facing role from teachers to retail should have priority. I find it obscene that vaccines are being wasted. There should be local standby lists, logistically a nightmare but there would be an uptake I'm sure.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 21/01/2021 22:28

Yes. Had 1st dose Pfizer last Sunday
I work on an inpatient elderly care ward so I was hoping and expecting to be prioritised and booked it as soon as the link came out.

I don't care about me. I've already had it. I just want to protect my patients and be less worried that by treating them I could inadvertently kill them. I just want to go back to giving the good service we did before all this business where you could touch someone's hand when they were upset or let the deaf ones read your lips instead of bellowing from behind a mask.

bluubear · 21/01/2021 22:29

My frontline NHS DM had hers today. Pfizer.

Shieldingending · 21/01/2021 22:29

No, I'm a clinically vulnerable teacher working in a special school which is still open and no sign of a vaccine for me or my colleagues. We are really annoyed that the therapy team, social workers and school nurse all of whom are not coming into schools at the moment and only supporting us via zoom have all had theirs!!

Larkin01 · 21/01/2021 22:30

I’m a GP, had Pfizer, our PCN gave frontline workers both doses and I feel very lucky about that.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 21/01/2021 22:32

We were told very firmly no 2nd dose for 12 weeks.

mrdobalinamrbobdobalina · 21/01/2021 22:36
@Mummydoctor great you've had yours! Are any of the left over vaccines ever disposed of? Hopefully this isn't the case Sad
Where I am the vaccination team has extended its hours and is being amazingly proactive at getting people in to use the leftover ones.

mrdobalinamrbobdobalina · 21/01/2021 22:37

@CovoidOfAllHumanity

We were told very firmly no 2nd dose for 12 weeks.
We've also been told very firmly no second dose until at least 9 weeks. No exceptions whatsoever.

I'm on my second round of covid. The reinfection rate in frontline staff is steadily climbing.
Anecdotally those on their second bout of covid are reporting much milder symptoms, myself included.
My first was in March, I was bed bound for week and suffered for a few weeks after that.

PrivateHall · 21/01/2021 22:40

It is because they are trust staff. As I am sure you are aware, healthcare staff are within the priority list, so it makes sense to get through as many as possible. This will in turn make things safer for school staff remember. Some areas have gotten round it by designating SN school staff as 'carers' and so have managed to include them for vaccination now which is brilliant. Hopefully more will do this too.

I know everyone thinks they should be getting vaccinated now, but it just isn't possible, surely people can understand that Sad Please don't be cross that others are getting vaccinated who you feel are 'less worthy'. As I have said, the more people that get done the better.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 21/01/2021 22:45

I had mine done at our hospital hub (4 in the county now) and they are 8-8 every day including weekends and are doing 650 people a day although just our acute hospital Trust has 11,000 employees eligible apparently plus they are doing community health staff, social workers, care home staff, mental health staff etc etc so just doing staff is going to keep them busy for a while.

The strategy here seems to be staff come to the hospital hub and have the Pfizer and GPs are doing the elderly and care homes with the AZ as they can more easily store/ transport it for less mobile people.
Makes sense to me.

BrettAndersonscheekbones · 21/01/2021 22:49

111 staff here. Got mine booked for end of Feb, only waiting that long as currently ill with covid and you have to wait 28 days. Frontline staff within our Trust eg. ambulance were all prioritised.

GreenPlum · 21/01/2021 22:49

Friend community nurse had hers today.

Friend dental student had hers yesterday.

Daughter health care support worker in a hospital was supposed to have it today but came down with covid on Sunday.

All her colleagues had it today.

KatherineOfGaunt · 21/01/2021 22:50

I'm an SEN teacher but in a mainstream school. I probably won't get mine until the summer at the earliest, along with my age group, despite having to spend all day in close proximity to our pupils, including intimate care. It's frustrating!

My DH will probably get his before me because he's just over 50. But he's a SAHD!

I don't begrudge anyone their vaccine, even a friend who's NHS admin who's been WFH since March, because that's just the way it's being done. I can't change that. But I can hope that my council will consider SEN staff for an earlier vaccine if it's possible. Even if it's just a case of being on a list and called up if there are "spare" doses at the end of the day.
