Any advice to request vaccine ASAP

Please let me start by saying I am not wanting to jump ahead of the elderly, but please bear with me. We have been told that ECV can be invited now for the vaccine and I’m ECV.
We’ve also been told not to phone drs (and recorded message on dr website states they will not discuss vaccine appointments). Does anyone know how I can flag to the powers that be that I am working each day with students face to face in school, so that I can at least be one of the first ECV to be called?
To be clear I have chosen to continue working as I’m a Head of Year and feel that my vulnerable students need me. I could work from home, but I fought to be allowed in.
I’m really asking I suppose, I’d there a way of talking to a real person to explain my situation?
If you don’t want to give details on here because ransoms might decide to follow your tips too I understand.
I do not want to skip ahead of the higher groups - but would really like to be early in my group.

I don’t understand this. Surely when she’s had two doses of the vaccine and waited an appropriate time afterwards, she can stop shielding and follow the national guidance?
No I am ECV, we still need to shield as the vaccine is thought to be less effective for us as the majority of ECV have compromised immunity.
Wow. So even when everyone’s vaccinated you still have to shield? Cos we could all be transmitting it to each other without knowing. I didn’t appreciate this but it does make sense. Sad

Justanotherfaceinthecrowd · 21/01/2021 19:51

I work with unwell covid pateints in a hospital setting.
I had my jab this week.
I had to wait my turn. So you must wait yours 🙄

Notmoreuodates5 · 21/01/2021 19:54

There’s reasons why a que is formed other wise everyone will be like “I need to go first/before that person”. My needs are greater..

Mascarponeandwine · 21/01/2021 19:54
@mascarponeandwine because us as mere mortals are obviously incapable of standing on a scale and telling them the number that flashes up. Ridiculous. But well done on your weight loss. :)
Thank you. Insane isn’t it. I also have to declare morbid obesity for any new travel insurance etc, even if I get down to BMI

Skipsurvey · 21/01/2021 19:54

op If you are concerned I suggest you take advice and Shield, dont be a martyr

Monkeytennis97 · 21/01/2021 19:55

Stay at home.

The job isn't worth it.

I'm a teacher too.

Tistheseason17 · 21/01/2021 19:57

FFS - just wait for your GP to call you. Or wait for your letter and book in mass vac centre.
You are Cat 4 - Plenty of people more vulnerable above you. Don't you think GP practices are going through their list in priority order?
All these impatient people calling surgeries are causing LONG wait times on the phone preventing sick people getting through.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 21/01/2021 19:58

I agree with other posters that people like you who are in a keyworkers job role and are CEV should have the vaccine ASAP. But, in these circumstances, I don't know how it is possible for you to contact anyone about it. There will be plenty of others in your situation and if everyone started contacting GPs asking to be moved further up the queue then that's going to create loads more work for very stretched medical teams. If you are ever at your GP's surgery for a routine appointment you can maybe try explaining then? They might listen and get you an earlier slot.

Skipsurvey · 21/01/2021 20:00

you dont have a leg to stand on, you are cev and have been advised to shield.

Daddeee · 21/01/2021 20:03

Some local hospitals have spare capacity and you can book appointments as long as your cohort is being invited for vaccinations. So it might be worth a try.

Somethingmavelous · 21/01/2021 20:03

Ring your doctors surgery.
I did to tell them I have a job (which they were unaware of) which means I am higher up the list.

Crazycatlady83 · 21/01/2021 20:08

Can you contact your Gp (by email if they aren’t taking calls?) and say that you are willing to go on a back up list to be called at short notice to have the vaccine if there is any left at the end of the day (say someone didn’t turn up or they managed to get more doses out of the viral?)

I understand why you want the vaccine and why people are saying “wait your turn”. Difficult times

itbemay1 · 21/01/2021 20:11

Clinician here. Everyone has a reason to have the vaccine before someone else. So many people call and say I know we've been told not to but... the pressure we are under at the moment is IMMENSE please just wait, you will be called when it is your turn, it's frustrating I know but it's also frustrating when you can't get on and arrange clinics because you are dealing with the 100s of calls and queries about the vaccine.

Kendodd · 21/01/2021 20:12

I hate to advise you to ring doctors or hospitals as they're all so busy but is there any 'drop everything' list you could get on? Do they even exist? I think vaccination centres have a sort of 'no vaccine in the bin' policy so any left over vaccine (short shelf life) they just look to get into anyone. Is there any list of people who'll drop everything and be there in five minutes thing?

LindaEllen · 21/01/2021 20:13

Just wait your turn. Millions of people have their reasons to think they're more important.

You can’t teach anyone if you’re on a ventilator.

The vaccine isn’t a silver bullet that is going to protect you immediately. You should be shielding. Even after your two doses you are still at a higher risk of getting seriously unwell.

Listen to your consultant. They obviously think you are at enough risk to shield. I have no idea why you’re not heeding their advice.

Bagelsandbrie · 21/01/2021 20:19

I’m cev and carer to a child with autism and learning disabilities. I’m desperate for the vaccine too. I am so scared of getting COVID and not being there for my son - and the rest of my family of course. But we just have to wait. They will get to us when they get to us.

This. There are some many people who feel they should be prioritised for so many very logical reasons but you just need to wait unfortunately. Hopefully it won't be long!
LemonTT · 21/01/2021 20:23

My penny worth. There are a lot of tired, stressed and downright irritable people working in the NHS atm. There’s a COVID surge to respond to, business as usual to be maintained (as much as possible) and a mass vaccination programme to be run.

No one has time to answer call from those people who want to know when they will get vaccinated. The information is on the website. And a letter isn’t a better option because it has to be answered.

A colleague suggested that we now revert to responding in the manner of granddad from Derry Girls to all manner of fuckwittage. Which would be “catch yourself on”.

Not directed at the OP but it’s been a long long hard slog.

CherryRoulade · 21/01/2021 20:29

I emailed. I got my booked for vaccination tomorrow. I’d email and explain.

Myusername122 · 21/01/2021 21:06

I am also CEV & have received a text today and have booked for next week to receive my vaccine . Your wait shouldn’t be long ! .

MyDcAreMarvel · 21/01/2021 23:54

Yes, I wonder when my life will ever get back to normal. My youngest child was born 3 months before lockdown. Since then he has never been indoors other than his own home! He has been to plenty of parks, and also to zoos and farms etc when shielding was paused but I still feel his world is so small. I was advised by my consultant not to have anyone else take him places as he could pass Covid on to me.

MacTheFork · 22/01/2021 01:40

OP is clearly asking for “tips” to use the IT loopholes or why else hint people might want to dm so other less important people can’t use the “tips”?

I wonder if anyone has shared these “tips”. Not really what MN is for, is it?
