And social distancing indoors.

Good, I see as a good thing

Tyranttoddler · 17/01/2021 21:50

We've done social distancing indoors and masks in all communal areas as well as in the classroom unless we are in our 2m box. I welcome these measures but they are insufficient.

Randomschoolworker19 · 17/01/2021 21:54

Another two measures that we would could implement which have been replicated all over the world are temperature checks upon arrival and plexiglass screens for desks. Very simple yet like everything Covid related we seem to take forever to get our act together.

I’m confused by 2m boxes. You need 4m at the front of the room if they are to keep you 2m from children, as you can presumably be anywhere in the box, even at the edge. None of the rooms I work in have 2m at the front anyway, so no chance of being 2m away...

WouldBeGood · 17/01/2021 21:57

They need to get a grip.

Tyranttoddler · 17/01/2021 21:57

Basically we have to stand by the computer and all the children are squeezed into rows in barely any space to ensure they are 2m away from us but yes, it's hardly foolproof

BogRollBOGOF · 17/01/2021 21:57

What's the point in children being in school if the teacher can't communicate effectively?

bert3400 · 17/01/2021 22:03

@BogRollBOGOF they seem to manage in schools around the world. At my sons school they've had to wear masks since September ( we are not in the uk) from the age of 5, all teachers wear mask and visors . Temp checks and hand sanitisers every where....not one case since Sept. UK is so backward with this ...its such an easy thing to implement.

British Medical Journal scientists' article calling for a proper government strategy for schools:

A lot of teachers have been wearing masks all the time since September.

I think the difference here is it will stop some heads telling their staff they aren't allowed.

My friend a sen teacher was only allowed to wear a mask in December after cases shot up. She had been requesting it for ages. However the school management banned the teacher before then.

EnemyOfEducationNo1 · 17/01/2021 22:16

In my school we were only.allowed to wear masks in the corridors the Monday after the autumn lockdown, and were not allowed them in classrooms at all. We were even told to tell pupils to remove them in the classroom.

As we are always being told masks don’t protect the wearer but others, why are these teachers so keen in this to save themselves?

SionnachRua · 17/01/2021 22:17

Such a simple request. I can't believe some heads have the gall to tell staff they can't wear masks.

Older kids should be in masks too.

LickEmbysmiling · 17/01/2021 22:18

Masks do not protect the wearer from covid, they protect other people. all children need to wear masks to all protect each other and slow down aerosols being emitted.

A teacher wearing a mask will do fuck all for the teacher. If all dc wear masks, the teacher has more scope to talk without one, pop one back on as and when.

Why should anyone wear a mask then?

I have 2 dc 4 years between, I'm happy for them both to wear masks in class, with windows open.

I would however like lesson to 🐝 flexible, give students breaks to take the mask off and go outside etc, at which point the doors and windows all open to the shift air around...

HamSandwichKiller · 17/01/2021 22:20

What the hell are those screens supposed to achieve? It looks about as pointless as wearing a face shield.

LickEmbysmiling · 17/01/2021 22:21

Omg..
I'm wear a mask and talk to you, you are slightly protected from my covid when talking to me, but I'm not really protected from you, without your mask.

Then x 30 I'm not protected from 30 + students because they are not wearing masks!!

Ohbabybab · 17/01/2021 22:22

@LickEmbysmiling Surely if they are PPE masks they would protect the teacher?
Although I don’t disagree that for a certain age up kids should wear masks. I think it’s 6+ in France

Maybe they should stay at home then.
Twinpeaksdancingman · 17/01/2021 22:22

Good user name OP for a teacher Hmm

LickEmbysmiling · 17/01/2021 22:23

Ham I guess they stop direct drops from the coughs and sneezes shooting into people around them?

Some drops will escape, shoot up but not directly into someone's face?

Dotinthecity · 17/01/2021 22:23

In our school we've been free to wear masks in the classroom since September. Not a single member of staff did, despite them being freely available. The classrooms are far too small for the staff to keep a 2m distance (or even a 1m distance) from each other or the pupils. Despite this, we've not had a single case of Covid among the staff, pupils or their families. Some of the suggestions being made here are well over the top!

GlowingOrb · 17/01/2021 22:24

Other countries have teachers and children wearing masks at all times.

WouldBeGood · 17/01/2021 22:27

@EnemyOfEducationNo1 excellent question
