Tested positive & worrying

Please come and share your stories of mild illness
I tested positive yesterday and even though I just feel like I've got a cold I am paranoid I'll end up on ITU within a week!!!! (I used to work there so the horror of that is enough)

Please reassure me that your mild illness stayed mild
I have asthma but it's well managed and I didn't have to shield previously

My experience has been pretty mild. I've taken two paracetamol once on a day where the headache was a bit worse than the other days. Mostly I've just been really tired. Looking forward to being able to smell and taste again. My ten days is up tomorrow at midnight.
I've been able to work from home - I did two late starts because I needed to sleep in.
I just want to sleeeeeeeeep!

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 17/01/2021 11:13

I had covid over Xmas and it started as headache then tickly cough and night sweats. Things started tasting and smelling weird and I felt really nauseous.
I had a few days when it was painful to breathe deeply and used my oximeter to check my levels which were always fine. Took my steroid puffer more during these days and that got me over it.
The fatigue and headache took to longest to shift but drinking hot drinks really helped my head.

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 17/01/2021 11:14

Hope you feel better soon op. I have know many many people who have had it mildly and no one that has been seriously ill.

HairyFloppins · 17/01/2021 11:16

The vast majority of people have mild cases OP. Me and my dd's were fine. It wasn't pleasant but I have had worse illnesses.

Hope you feel better soon.

Grobagsforever · 17/01/2021 11:20

Partners 80 year grandma was asymptotic.

Neighbour (50 bit overweight) was in bed for a few days and 'rough' for a week

Friends (male mid 40's) felt rough for a week but only a day in bed

Partner's secretary had it twice, quite rough first time, second time just a cold really

Builder had it, bed rest for a couple of days...

ConfusedcomMum · 17/01/2021 11:23

I am asthmatic but symptomless for years. I tested positive last month and recovered within 8 days. It didn't go to my lungs at all but I had a few days of kidney pain and UTI symptoms. Drink plenty of cool boiled water, steam inhalation, vit c with zinc throat lozenges, keep windows open and rest as much as you can, sleeping on your front. Keep an eye on your Oxygen saturation levels with a pulse oximeter. As pp have said, most cases are mild so try to stay positive.

Fembot123 · 17/01/2021 11:27

Ahh I sympathise with you OP as I have health anxiety and would fear the worst but the majority of people will be absolutely fine, I echo the oximeter thing, they are around £10 and I bought one to have just in case as the reassurance it must give means I’d rather have it and not need it. Try and remember that if you had the flu you’d feel like death but probably not fear that you would actually die if that makes any sense? Also the medication is a lot better than it was in the first wave. Try and complete Netflix and keep chatting on here if it makes you feel less anxious

MozzchopsThirty · 17/01/2021 11:30

Thank you all that's really reassuring
I have been more comfortable sleeping on my front actually so that's good!

Definitely going to attack Netflix and work my way through my list

Always take vit c & zinc daily anyway along with a multivitamin

Lots of self care days coming up Smile

I can sympathise OP, 3 out of 4 of our household tested positive. The first positive came from just a routine test at work on the 5th, so we've all been isolating since then and had 2 more positives on the 12th following symptoms. All 3 have felt completely different and none of us have had any of the three 'main' symptoms they tell you to watch out for. I was the one least affected and just feel like I've got a cold. When we first got the results I was so nervous, which you can't help with everything you are seeing and reading in the news. It's a natural reaction I think. Luckily I think we are all through the worst now and thankfully it wasn't too bad and none of us required any intervention. Just try to keep your fluids up and rest as much as you need to. Hope you feel better soon.

cassgate · 17/01/2021 12:20

I lost sense of taste and smell on Xmas Eve and tested positive. I had no other symptoms and felt fine. By far the worst part was the anxiety of not knowing if it would get worse. It never did. I found nights the worst and had trouble sleeping because of the anxiety.

MozzchopsThirty · 17/01/2021 12:28

Oh yes the nights are awful, when I got the message at 6am saying I was positive I lay there for hours stressing!

It's the not knowing isn't it?

Thank you all for reducing my anxiety

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 17/01/2021 12:47

Ps my son had it and only symptom was sneezing and runny nose and a reduced sense of taste: so when people say if you sneeze it’s not covid that is not necessarily true.

Hello1290 · 17/01/2021 13:00

I had awful headaches and body aches. Make sure you get plenty of rest and keep hydrated. Definite yes to watching lots of Netflix! Hope you feel better soon.

EsmeeMerlin · 17/01/2021 13:05

I am on day 6 and feeling increasingly better. I do now have a tight chest and cough but it’s no worse than a cough that comes after a cough. Dh had it a few days before me and he has only really had aches and no sense of taste and that’s now slowly coming back. I did feel anxious a few days ago but have just been taking it all one day at a time.

somethinginthewater · 17/01/2021 13:20

I tested positive on New Year's day and am sure most of my symptoms came from anxiety! I was fluey, nauseous and exhausted, but that was as bad as it got tbh.
Two weeks on I still feel a bit like I've been hit by a bus though I'm hoping that's going to get better soon.

Anon778833 · 17/01/2021 13:21

I haven’t had it but my cousins wife had it and also my ex husband. They are both in their early 40s and recovered quickly.

MozzchopsThirty · 17/01/2021 13:30

Thank you thank you thank you Smile

I am just having a nice bath and going to get into some clean pjs
Dd is making Sunday dinner
Thank god I haven't lost my appetite or sense of taste yet 🤞🏻

Dogsandbabies · 17/01/2021 13:39

Four of us got it over Christmas. Two kids completely asymptomatic. Partner got a runny nose and headache for a few days and I lost my sense of smell and taste for 5days. That was it for us. No temps, coughs or anything bad.

SpnBaby1967 · 17/01/2021 14:46

I tested positive on 23rd dec. I had a wicked sore throat and slept a lot, but was still well enough to wfh in my very busy, high paced job. Little temp here and there, nothing major.

The worst was probably one day I had agonising leg pain, but a hot bath and regular paracetamol solved that.

Honestly, I have had worse colds, much MUCH worse colds.

MozzchopsThirty · 17/01/2021 15:04

@SpnBaby1967 I had terrible leg pain too

This virus is full of weird random symptoms

OP posts:
whereisthejoy · 17/01/2021 19:23

Very mild, me and DH early 40s and have a 2 year old. The symptom that was the most 'severe' was upset stomach. I did find the absolute loss of smell very distressing but it came back within two weeks. You'll be fine Smile
