www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/19016790.people-will-die---bcp-puts-strong-covid-message/

Just to make it clear, I am absolutely in favour of doing everything possible to reduce and manage the spread of Covid, but given that almost every other person I know is suffering huge mental stress due to the current lockdown, and even though I am fairly resilient I'm also feeling the strain, I'm quite nonplussed by the campaign in our area. And judging by the reader vote people are in favour of it.

Surely by now the majority of people are all too well aware of the seriousness of the situation, and the vaccine is supposed to be the light at the end of the tunnel?

I guess I'm more in favour of carrots than sticks, but maybe I'm in the minority. This just feels a little hysterical.....

Message is over the top but more annoyed they call it Coronavirus. It is a coronavirus but the disease is Covid 19 caused by the Sars-Cov-2 virus. Gets me irrationally annoyed that the news, government and authorities still can’t get it right!

MercyBooth · 17/01/2021 17:55

@FranklyTruly Im in a support bubble because im a carer. Read the bloody Gov. guidance.

Unpaid carers HELP the NHS not hinder it. If you think its bad now, you would be in complete shock if all family carers downed tools right now. Did you give your name when you snitched?

Because if i had been on the end of that i would be asking them if they were going to charge you with wasting police time.

Bournemouth infection rate trajectory looks like this:

Lockdown hasn't reversed the rise like it has in most of the country.

Drives me crackers too.

It is utterly ridiculous I agree!!! If I hear any adverts or see anything on the telly i now turn it down/over....

Mumofsend · 17/01/2021 18:08

@PrincessNutNuts we went into lockdown/tier 4 later than most the country.

LastTrainEast · 17/01/2021 18:10

OP there are people posting on mumsnet right now saying "don't bother with the rules. It's just the flu. They can't make us do anything we don't want to do"

Some of these idiots probably live in your area. It's not aimed at you.

This is one of the downfalls of the tiering system. Let's hope it stops rising and starts to dip this week.

Mumofsend · 17/01/2021 18:18

@PrincessNutNuts might just be my little neck of the BCP area but the day London went in to tier 4 all the Londoners came to their second homes. It also seems to be some of those London second home heavy areas that have had the highest rates within BCP. It should never have been allowed to happen.

RedskyBynight · 17/01/2021 18:18
@PrincessNutNuts we went into lockdown/tier 4 later than most the country.
Which is reflected in the infection curve being a couple of weeks behind other areas. Hopefully you'll see it come down soon as most of the earlier Tier 4 areas have.

I think the problem with covid rules are people either stick to them so this has noneffect on them, others don't give a toss and again this has no effect on them, so really seems like a waste of time and money.

drspouse · 17/01/2021 19:33

Negative messages are well known for not changing behaviour as people block them out. So it's completely pointless.

QueenoftheFarts · 17/01/2021 19:58

Clearly a typo. It should have said "out out" as opposed to just out.....

Seriously though, I read it as "unnecessarily out". I wouldn't class going to work or the supermarket as "going out" in terms of "excursion"... but going out to meet friends and get pissed in the park... which sadly some people continue to do while giving zero shits about the consequences.

It's crap wording though.

Buzzinwithbez · 17/01/2021 20:24

They are on bus stops in my town.
'that's not true mum, is it? Said my daughter as I tried to get her to the park'

I'm glad she's quite a level headed girl. I'm imagining the parent of a child who has autism or who is of a more nervous temperament might have struggled to bring a bit of balance to the message.

sarahjaneg · 17/01/2021 20:51

Totally disgusting, im in the same area as you and this is another in a long line of shitty slogans that I hate! I'm a carer so have needed to work throughout.... and my kids have to hear/ see this sort of nonsense, totally infuriating!

angelfacecuti75 · 17/01/2021 21:00

From someone who's fiance nearly died in November from covid , I felt like you did before I knew anyone that had it but have done a 180 degree turn in terms of my attitude towards it . I had it and was very ill too . Got diabetes . I also have depression and adhd . So forgive me if I'm "that poster" that brings the negative to the conversation which isn't my intention. I think the precautions are necessary but everyone is getting fed up of it now . I think I've stopped watching the news for this reason because I just stopped wanting to go out so I do know where u r coming from . I just want a haircut.

csigeek · 17/01/2021 21:57

Too many people are not taking it seriously or making their own rules up.
I have family in the Bournemouth area. One family member told me who was in their “bubble”, it consisted of 7 other families. All of whom were also seeing other people in their “bubbles”.
People are doing nothing differently other than eating out, going drinking and shopping because they can’t. They’re meeting up with the same lots of people and spreading the virus in houses instead of pubs is all.

Goodiebagh · 17/01/2021 21:58

Jesus. My teenager barely wants to step outside as it is, even for walks, because of Covid. This is too much.

TempsPerdu · 17/01/2021 22:09

Total and utter batshittery. I’m so glad DD can’t yet read and isn’t being exposed to any of this fear-inducing nonsense. The aftermath of lockdown in terms of residual mental health issues is going to be appalling. And it’s probably counter-productive in terms of reaching the people it’s meant to to boot.

KisstheTeapot14 · 18/01/2021 10:35

Perhaps better if government had said...don't pop to your sister's for a quick cuppa, don't have a NY party, don't have 10 people round the dinner table at Christmas, don't go for a trip to Barnard. The genie is well and truly out of the lamp now. Some people just don't care enough to keep themselves and others safe and the virus has been given a free pass by govt and people 'following what they are allowed to do' instead of what is sensible.
