Would you chose the pfizer or oxford vaccine?

I had mine yesterday as I’m a health care worker. I had a choice of 2 locations and the one I went to did the pfizer vaccine as it was in a hospital and had freezer storage. If I had picked the other location I would have got the Oxford one.

Didn’t know this before I booked which is just as well as I would have ended up researching it for ages, but just out of curiosity would you have chosen one over the other?

I'm fine with either, as long as it works! I just miss travelling and seeing my family.

Catmaiden · 16/01/2021 17:50

Oxford, as I've had previous anaphylaxis and am diagnosed allergic to a number of different things.

2boysand1princess · 16/01/2021 18:48

I’d have the Oxford one without a doubt. Both stop severe disease. That’s the main thing. Also, because of the fact the Pfizer vaccine uses new technology (mRNA). However, if I didn’t have a choice I would be happy with either. The lasted news is we might all be offered a vaccine by July!

RosesforMama · 16/01/2021 19:01

When my son comes up (not for years as he's a teen) we will avoid pfizer or related mRNA vaccines as he has previously had itp (sudden crash in platelets) after a flu vaccine, and a guy in America recently died of itp following pfizer.

Dying of itp is very rare but certain vaccines causing itp is not unknown at all.

eyestightshut · 16/01/2021 19:03

Oxford - the technology behind it is established, it has a higher efficacy after 1st dose and has been shown to be effective with a second dose at 12 weeks., whereas Pfizer hasn't studied this.

x2boys · 16/01/2021 19:06

How is it deceided which one you get ?
I'm just curious as my parents are both getting them on Tuesday ,I'm just relieved they are getting one

FatCatThinCat · 16/01/2021 19:08

If I had a choice I'd take both to cover all bases. Plus all the others. Good job I don't get a choice!

Comefromaway · 16/01/2021 19:09

@MossandRoy

The Oxford one is being made in India, according to R4 earlier, *@Mrgrinch*
No, it’s being made in Keele, Staffordshire.

The vaccine being made in India is destined for countries in that area.

Weedsnseeds1 · 16/01/2021 19:10

Moderna if I had a choice, but I will take whatever I'm offered, when it's eventually my turn. It'll be a while yet!

muddledmidget · 16/01/2021 19:13

I'm getting the Oxford next week, I don't mind which one I have but this would be my preference due to the trials that showed its effectiveness with 12 week dosing schedule and more predictable side effects. I'm just happy to have an appointment booked!

ThatDamnKrampus · 16/01/2021 19:16

Pfizer, though if it was a case of oxford or none then I would obviously pick oxford, I would rather vaccinated than not.

I can't back up my feeling ( great scientist I'll make when I graduate!! Grin) but I have more faith in the Pfizer one.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 16/01/2021 19:19

Whatever I'm given, although I would prefer the J&J one if it's approved as it looks as though it'll be a single dose.

CarrieBlue · 16/01/2021 19:22

I genuinely don’t care, I’d just like to be vaccinated.

FourTeaFallOut · 16/01/2021 19:27

Given the choice, I'd go Oxford. But I'm easy.

Rockbird · 16/01/2021 19:42

I guess Pfizer if I had to make a choice but I really don't care as long as I get of them.

Rockbird · 16/01/2021 19:42

*one

CrackOpenTheGin · 16/01/2021 19:54

If you get the oxford vaccine but would prefer the Pfizer one because it is over 90% effective do you think you will be able to buy it privately once everyone has been vaccinated? Also, will it be safe to have the Pfizer one after the oxford one?

CrackOpenTheGin · 16/01/2021 19:55

How effective is the oxford one with the 12 week schedule? Does anyone know?

Gooseysgirl · 16/01/2021 19:57

I would choose Pfizer and that's the one I've been told I will be getting.

Abelard40 · 16/01/2021 20:12

Either! Fgs - does anyone ever ask what flu spray brand they are being offered?

SandyStarfish · 16/01/2021 20:18

Yes I ask what flu vaccine I'm being given.

PuzzledObserver · 16/01/2021 20:20

Unless you’re one of the small number who have a medical reason not to have one or the other, I don’t think it makes a blind bit of difference, tbh. The main protective effect is at the population level, and both are good enough for that.

On the personal level, well it’s just a bit of a top-up for me, since I’m just getting over Covid.

SophieB100 · 16/01/2021 20:23

Pfizer, in an ideal world.
But would be very grateful for Oxford.

FloraFocus · 16/01/2021 20:24

I'd be glad of either!

MarshaBradyo · 16/01/2021 20:25

Either
