Who's had vaccine yet and who's had side effects?

I'm in northern Ireland and I know around 6 people who've been entitled to the vaccine, 5 of them had the original one and 1 had the Oxford one. Every single person has had side effects, ranging from as little as stiff, extremely painful arm (needing painkillers) to as bad as vomiting, severe headache, 39 degree temperatures, exhaustion etc.

Why are the side effects more common than other vaccines? Most other vaccines it's like 1 in 10 will get these side effects, 1 in 50 will get these etc but I just found it strange that absolutely all recipients that I know had a side effect of some sort so far.

Oxford vaccine- mild temp, body aches and nausea but all gone after 24 hours.
I’ll take those side effects over COVID any day.

@bravefox

It plays into the hands of COVID denies and 5G crazies

Why do you bring up 5G, I think this is a rational discussion about side effects?

My mum has had both doses. No side effects at all from the first dose. Second dose, painful arm and diarrhoea (but she suffers from diarrhoea regularly since a bowel op).

My in laws haven't reported anything.

Sore arm is normal after a vaccination - some more so than others. It wouldn't be classed as an adverse reaction of particular concern.

Livelongandprosper · 16/01/2021 09:08

Pfizer - sore arm for 3 hours or so, then nothing

Swingometer · 16/01/2021 09:09

Had mine on 30th December (Pfizer)

No significant side effects

Nogodsnomasters · 16/01/2021 09:14

errolthedragon well a good few posters have reported no issues on the thread so I think it's a good mixture of responses.

whoareyounow glad to see the percentages of each side effect that's been reported so far, it's good to know the official details.

Sore arm for a day and mild headache that evening. I work in healthcare do know quite a few that have had it, other than feeling tired I don't know anyone who has had any other side effects

Nogodsnomasters · 16/01/2021 09:23

zigzagintothebeach it was my niece and her work colleague, both had the vaccine together and the next day at work my niece's temp was 38.5 and her colleague was 39, by the following day both were absolutely fine again and no cough, loss of taste/smell etc so it definitely was related to the vaccine, couldn't be that big of a coincidence the both of them.

Obviously there's no link between 5G and coronavirus, just mindful that conspiracy theorists will use the presence of 'side-effects' to rubbish the vaccine, claim it's some sort of mind control, I don't know!

Bruising, fever etc are incredibly common after most vaccinations (as I say, in babies you're told to expect it!). I just worry that people might read 'vaccine' and 'side effects' together and use that as justification for not getting vaccinated.

DH had the Moderna jab as he’s a frontline COVID physician. No side effects. A bit grumpy but 12+ hours in PPE and two small hyperactive kids will do that to you.

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/01/2021 09:36

Husband has had both doses of Pfizer and felt a bit off the day after the second dose. His arm was a bit sore but I wouldn't count this as a side effect, if you fell and scraped your knee it would hurt but you wouldn't call it a side effect.

Anecdotally, his colleagues who had definitely had the virus already reacted more strongly to the vaccine - possibly something to do with antibodies being ready to react (I'm not remotely scientific).

PeachScone · 16/01/2021 09:38

Had Pfizer first dose on Wednesday - sore arm and was a bit tired/achey that afternoon but no worse than flu jab.
Worst side effects I've had was actually hep B jab!

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 16/01/2021 09:39

I and my team have all had Pfizer....mild sore arm, same as the yearly flu jab.
No other side effects Smile

Albern · 16/01/2021 09:40

I had mine on Thursday afternoon and that night and the next day felt like i had the symptoms of the first day of a cold with chills and a headache. I had a sore arm round the injection site but not painful. Today my arm is still a little sore but all other side effects have gone ( no cold has developed). I had the oxford vaccine and due a second dose in 12 weeks.
My colleagues and I had our vaccines all in one go, most had similar side effects to me but one lady had none.

Bashitcrazy · 16/01/2021 09:43

I've just come from having the pfizer jab. I feel fine at the moment so watching with interest. I'm the first from work to have had it so feel like a bit of a Guinea pig.

cherrypie790 · 16/01/2021 09:46

My Dad had it just before Christmas, and has now got a severe local reaction around it that he's had dressed every day by the district nurse and two courses of antibiotics that hasn't helped. He's worried sick about going for the 2nd one and his GP won't give him a straight answer as to whether or not he should get it.

Meerschweinchen1990 · 16/01/2021 09:46

I’ve had both of the pfizer jabs - first dose I had a headache that went away with paracetamol but arm was only slightly sore if I laid on it. Second jab I had another headache, felt incredibly tired, arm was a bit more painful and I felt a bit ‘swimmy’. Managed to work from home though. All fine by the second day after the jab.

I hadn’t had a covid infection prior to the jab.

Camomila · 16/01/2021 09:47

DBro had the pfizer jab, he had a headache and temperature the next day.

He already had antibodies so he's super protected now 😆

Popfan · 16/01/2021 09:48

81 year old dad had the Pfizer and no side effects at all, not even a sore arm!

dicdicnurse · 16/01/2021 09:49

Just an aching arm for 24 hours.

Motorina · 16/01/2021 09:52

Pfizer here. Had the vaccine at lunchtime. Felt fine on the day. Woke up with a very sore arm (struggling to use it sore) and progressed to muscle aches, shivering and exhaustion. Spent most of the next 24 hours in bed. Now totally fine.

To my knowledge I haven't had covid, and had a negative antibody test in the summer.

I've had the flu jab for years, and the worst I've had with that is soreness when I prod it.

I can't say I'm looking forward to the next one, particularly not as I have to work the next day. (And, no, no possibility of rescheduling either).

It sounds like I've been at the bad end of the reaction spectrum. Inspite of that I would absolutely get the jab again - the reassurance of knowing I will shortly have some protection is already vastly outweighing the side effects. I don't want the fact I've had a couple of days feeling pants to put anyone off getting it, because covid is infinitely worse.

SnottyLottie · 16/01/2021 10:03

A very sore arm and felt tired about 1-4 days afterwards.
