Vaccine side effects anyone?

100 replies

wetasstenalady · 14/01/2021 19:08

Had my vaccine yesterday all fine
Then at about 9pm my arm was killing all the way into my wrist bone and fingers
Woke up about 3am really shivering and had to put extra duvet then an hour later red hot.
Today I've had on and off temp and feel really fluey to the point I've had to lie in bed. Now can feel the temp coming back up
Anyone else effected like this? For information I tested positive in December

I had Pfizer on Tuesday and today was the first day I felt ok. I had a fever, headache, dizziness, nausea, earache and tiredness. And a very sore arm, shoulder and neck.

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum my arm was still hurting from my flu vaccine in December too, very annoyingly.

Sorry OT but wanted to address this;

Oh so that would mean if a care home has covid cases they would potentially need to wait 4 weeks to vaccinate. Not good.

So in my LA, the vaccinators are still attending some homes with Covid outbreaks. They are assessing it on a case by case basis. Obviously if a huge number of residents and staff have Covid they aren’t going in but they are going in where they know there is Covid.

In all honesty, I’m not ok with that when we’ve fought to keep our home Covid free. Our sister home had no Covid since the summer. All their staff and residents were negative. One week after the vaccinators came in and with the residents going nowhere and having no visitors other than the vaccinators, they had an outbreak of Covid amongst the residents only (and only residents who had the vaccine). A week later again and the residents had passed it onto a couple of staff too. It’s almost certainly come from the vaccinators who are only tested every seven days using the unreliable LAMP tests and travelling to several homes each day and vaccinating en-masse, including in homes with known outbreaks. It just feels very unsafe and negligent. They’ve been given a government target to meet. In our LA all care homes and staff by 30th Jan and doing it as fast as possible despite the very real possibility of taking Covid from one home into several.

23 people, all over the age of 80 have died days after receiving the Pfizer vaccine in Norway.

TroysMammy · 15/01/2021 20:59

Sore arm for 27 hours. I had the jab in my right arm because I sleep on my left and I like sleep more than I like writing. I usually have jabs in my left arm and it's really sore for days and it interferes with my sleep. I thought things through properly this time. No other side effects to report.

CantGetNoSleeeeeeep · 15/01/2021 21:06

From colleagues I’ve heard that if you have had covid the reaction is worse. I had mine today abs apart from a sore arm and a bit tired all good

A fair few deaths in the immediate aftermath of vaccination were inevitable, though. We're targeting 80+ and those in care homes, which are a population who tend to die expectedly or unexpectedly, particularly in winter.

I would want to know how many deaths in a matched population of frail elderly one might expect normally before laying the blame at the door of the vaccine.

testingtesting321 · 15/01/2021 21:33

I had the AZ one in Wednesday. Felt really tired that afternoon but nothing since.

I followed in a very short form prior to having the jab, didn’t feel the needle or vaccine go in, and didn’t have to wait at all after (was just told not to drive for 15 mins but as I had walked it didn’t matter).

Have heard that the reactions after the second dose are likely to be worse.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 15/01/2021 21:37

Me and my NHS colleagues all had our pfizer vaccine on the same day, two of them were off sick the next day, I had a two day migraine but still came to work and the others all felt properly rough.
Our 80 year old patients who had it had no symptoms at all.

ADealingMummy · 15/01/2021 21:51

My husband had the Oxford vaccine yesterday morning.
Last night he had uncontrollable shivering, followed by a temp of over 39 degrees.
Aching all over, headache etc.
His condition did improve and now he is just out of sorts, extremely tired and achy ( arm is killing him apparently).
His antibodies are working very hard.
He would still rather have the vaccine than covid .

Oohhaveabanana · 15/01/2021 21:58

Had mine Tuesday morning, very sore arm and flu like symptoms on Wednesday and Thursday. Fine today. Had covid March 2020. Several colleagues had same symptoms (NHS)
Info from our hospital says flu like symptoms may be experienced within 48hrs.

JaninaDuszejko · 15/01/2021 22:02

23 people, all over the age of 80 have died days after receiving the Pfizer vaccine in Norway.

They've only vaccinated about 35,000 and from that report they don't yet know if they are linked. The UK has vaccinated over 3,234,946 people. So assuming it'snot a local issue we'd expect to have seen over 2000 people in care homes dead as a result of being vaccinated which the yellow card ststem should pick up.

wetasstenalady · 15/01/2021 22:03

@EloraaDanan

To be honest *@wetasstenalady* it’s sounds like you may caught another virus. There’s lots of fluey type things buzzing about at the moment.
Totally possible it's just the timing of it Feeling rough again this evening but much better than yesterday

Had the Oxford last night at about 4.30pm. Woke up about 1am with chills and shaking. My trusty nhs timpanic thermometer has a flat battery and I've got no spares of that size but fairly sure I've got a fever.

I'm 27, frontline and not had covid to my knowledge.

I feel rough as anything, so glad it's the weekend and I'm off as I might have had to ring in which I haven't done in any job since I was 16. Maybe because I'm never Ill that why I'm being a total wimp Blush

If it carries on I suppose it will be a test just incase. ...

I reckon they got the dose amount mixed up and gave too much. Like Germany did when they hospitalised those nurses.

I can imagine unlike younger healthy nurses a group of frail older people wouldn't be able to handle it times the right amount.

We are very lucky that are vaccination people have to undergo decent training first.

@unique1986

Seems so annoying to feel rubbish after having the vaccine. Prob end up taking a day off work etc.
Yeah, but Covid would be worse & more time off work!!

I don't personally know any 'young' people that have had it, but it sounds like younger people react more & those who have had Covid. I guess their immune system reactions are stronger.

I have been offered the flu vaccine for years (diabetic) but I've never had it. This year they sent letters to say that even if you've never had it previously, would you please consider having it this year to help the surgery & the NHS as they're going to be busy enough with Covid patients let alone flu patients who chose not to get the vaccination (paraphrasing, but they were pretty blunt)

So I decided I should 'do my bit' as it happened, by fluke, I ended up having my Dr do it. I barely felt it, if it hadn't been her I'd have worried it hadn't been done properly. My arm didn't hurt at all afterwards & I felt fine.

My 92yo Aunt had hers done a week ago & she had a slightly sore arm. She drove herself there (& home) no issues (and she's a saved driver. I'm happy to be her passenger).

Porcupineintherough · 16/01/2021 06:27

@Orangelover give it 24 hours. My friend felt pretty terrible but it did wear off pretty quickly.

I have the gluten vaccine every year and it has ways been fine - except 2 years ago when I felt really fluent for 2 days afterwards.

Porcupineintherough · 16/01/2021 06:28

Grin really fluey

trulydelicious · 16/01/2021 07:48

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum
@Calmandmeasured1

It's explained also here - BMJ

www.bmj.com/content/372/bmj.n149

The agency has investigated 13 of the (23) deaths so far and concluded that common adverse reactions of mRNA vaccines, such as fever, nausea, and diarrhoea, may have contributed to fatal outcomes in some of the frail patients

They reckon that patients who were very frail had difficulty recovering from the side effects from the vaccine (which they think would not have been problematic in healthy individuals). For now they are recommending that doctors make a risk assessment before they vaccinate patients who are frail/ill.

This evaluation includes discussing the risks and benefits of vaccination with the patient and their families to decide whether or not vaccination is the best course

TrufflyPig · 16/01/2021 07:53

If people could fill out a Yellow Card report for side effects they've had that would be really helpful. Helps build a more robust side effect profile and helps medical professionals assess risk in future:

RichardMarxisinnocent · 16/01/2021 08:05

@frumpety

Did anyone else get told they were part of a trial when having their vaccine ?
No. Why would I be when it isn't part of a trial?

Also, if you were part of a trial you don't jsit get informed, you have to actively agree to be part of it and give your consent.

Tanfastic · 16/01/2021 12:50

My side effects lasted roughly a day and a half. I had my vaccine at 4pm on Wednesday, hardly felt it, all good (I'm an NHS worker). At about 10pm I felt really tired which is really unlike me so went to bed. Woke up at 2am thinking I was going to throw up and reeling rotten (aching, joint pains, hot and shivery). I didn't know what to do with myself tbh. My temp was about 38 so not massively high bit higher than normal. Didn't get back to sleep all night as I felt so nauseous. The nausea only lasted until about 9.00am but I felt rubbish for the whole of Thursday and took the day off sick. Worked from home on Friday and felt a lot better by the afternoon. Today I'm completely back to normal, feel like a new woman 😂👌.

I will report the side effects - thanks for the link.

Most of my colleagues who has theirs same day as me felt varying degrees of roughness. We are probably going to have to stagger our second doses.

frumpety · 16/01/2021 19:02

@RichardMarxisinnocent that's why I mentioned it, because it seemed an odd thing to say, I haven't been part of any trial previously for this vaccine.

GwendolineMarysLaces · 16/01/2021 19:06

@unique1986

It means your immune system is reacting to the vaccination so it's actually a positive sign. The injection doesn't hurt at all, it's a very small needle and a tiny volume. I had mine Tuesday ( I have no history of Covid infection). Had sore arm that night and for following 24hrs and felt a bit headachey/woozy for a day and a half. Still managed to work. Bring on the second dose!
GwendolineMarysLaces · 16/01/2021 19:08

Mine was also the Pfizer

frumpety · 16/01/2021 19:08

Trial to me means some people will be recieving a placebo , which I am sure can't be the case with this vaccination programme, maybe she mean't trial as in 'lets see what sort of side effects get reported ' kind of way ?
