Designed by Bill Gates.

I don't know what to say to her! She said she'll refuse the vaccine.

OP posts:
notalwaysalondoner · 13/01/2021 15:15

I feel for Bill Gates, I really do - decades of world-leading philanthropy and people think he's out to get them nevertheless. Poor guy.

BooBahBoo · 13/01/2021 15:15

Honestly, I'd just ask her why on earth she thinks she's so important that Bill Gates would give two hoots about her and what time she goes to bingo at (insert with appropriate hobby).

In the grand scheme of things, she's a nobody. Not to you, her friends and family. But to the wider world? Yep.

Ultimately, if she doesn't accept the vaccine then unfortunately the consequences of that are on her. It's shit for you but you can't do anything else.

Bluesername · 13/01/2021 15:18

No way am I getting microchipped if this happens in the future. Too many untrustworthy people in powerful positions who'd love to misuse such technology.

But surely if it was in the vaccine or people who'd received it, a scientist somewhere in the world would find this 'chip' and blow the whistle? If someone believes there's a chip in the vaccine then they should hire a trustworthy scientist to find it. Otherwise there is no evidence.

InterfectoremVulpes · 13/01/2021 15:23

So what are these chips supposed to actually do?

AdoraBell · 13/01/2021 15:24

Late MIL tried to stop me allowing my twins having the MMR vaccine 18 years ago. Apparently “only a few” people die from measles Hmm

I’m sorry your mum is delusional right now OP, I might use my MIL’s logic- despite the figures of Covid-19 - and tell her only a few people die from it, she might be lucky, eh?

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/01/2021 15:24

If the chip thing worked you could use it to track lost pets and make a fortune off it.

I had the covid vaccine on Monday, it was very quick compared to the flu jab.

zoomzoomzoomhey · 13/01/2021 15:29

Sounds EXACTLY like my parents! I just nod at everything they say now and ignore all of the videos and links they send me.

Fine for everyone to have their own opinion, but no need to force it on others!

sandieshaw · 13/01/2021 15:30

How does she think this chip is powered? There's no battery in the world small enough to be administered by injection and even if there was, it wouldn't exactly hold much charge would it?

MindGrapes · 13/01/2021 15:31

Didn't you watch The Matrix? We are the batteries...

Ah I know man. He's genuinely peplexed about the whole thing. It must sting a bit.
giantangryrooster · 13/01/2021 15:35

Erh I've been looking for tracking chips for my cats. No luck yet, so if your dm can tell us where to get them?

Guess there would be a big marked for straying dhs too Grin.

britnay · 13/01/2021 15:38

What exactly is it that she does that she wouldn't want Bill Gates to know?

PuzzledObserver · 13/01/2021 15:38

Flowers for you for having to deal with this idiocy. I know it’s upsetting, particularly if she is likely to be particularly at risk. But it’s probably not worth trying to persuade her.

Tell her you think she’s wrong and leave it at that.

QuitMoaning · 13/01/2021 15:39

That is excellent news. My partner has a professional chipper machine for his business so he could rent it to the government to produce all these chips.
Wonder if they are fussy about potato varieties as Maris piper are meant to be very good.

viques · 13/01/2021 15:42

Tell her “You are mistaken mother. Shall I make tea. It is time for tea mother.”

But say it in a robotic voice and make whirring sounds when you move. Make sure you put your head on one side, blink slowly and smile winsomely.

nongnangning · 13/01/2021 15:43

There was a really interesting thread on Twitter re how to speak persuasively with someone you love about misinformation - whether anti-vax or Trump or alt-right or whatever

It's here:
twitter.com/dannagal/status/1347564138738946050
I thought there were some good tips

MeringueCloud · 13/01/2021 15:43

@lubeybooby

Have very serious talk before she irretreivably goes down the conspiracy rabbit hole.. show her the needle required to chip something. same as microchipping a cat/dog

not possible with a vaccine needle

and the government and big companies already track us plenty, natiinal insurance numbers, council tax, nhs numbers, tracking cookies, targerted advertising... they don't need any flippin chips

Whether they "already track us" isn't the point. Surely you can see that there's a huge difference between paying council tax, tracking cookies and having a chip secretly and permanently inserted into your body?

And no I don't believe there are chips in the vaccine.

wowfudge · 13/01/2021 15:44

Tell her to employ some critical thinking instead of listening to her DH's social media echo chamber.

Rangoon · 13/01/2021 15:44

The idea that the UK government could actually get microchips, get them inserted into people and then do something with them once inserted seems inconceivable when they can hardly organise anything else to do with covid. I suppose you could always take your mother to the vet to check for microchips! Our cat is doing fine with hers and I don't think Bill Gates has any plans for her.

Lampzade · 13/01/2021 15:45

My 78 year old aunt refuses to have the vaccine as apparently the vaccine contains animal blood.

MeringueCloud · 13/01/2021 15:45

@britnay

Not the point either. People have the right to privacy.
NastyBlouse · 13/01/2021 15:47

Well if she doesn't fancy being a wifi hotspot it's her loss I suppose

KitKat1985 · 13/01/2021 15:51

Honestly OP, you may just have to sigh, say 'let's agree to disagree', and let her get on with refusing the vaccine. I've tried talking to several conspiracy theorists and honestly you might as well just bang your head against a wall, because they won't listen to the 'sheeple' about any rational argument. You could try to make a simple statement like 'the grass is green' and they would tell you that you've been brainwashed into believing the grass is green by the mass media.

Morred · 13/01/2021 15:52

Really wide-eyed, proper Daily Mail sadface from you. "Oh that's such a shame - I was really looking forward to being able to hug you again once the vaccinations roll out and restrictions start to ease."

giantangryrooster · 13/01/2021 15:56

For all believers in the chip theory, if you own a phone or similar devices, nobody would have the need for extra chipping.

@nongnangning that Twitter link is rather good, especially

"I totally understand your concerns. The world is upside down and it's hard to know what info to trust. Ultimately, it's your decision. I would just hate to see you unable to participate in your old favorite activities or unable to see friends because you don't get vaccinated."

But it requires soo much patience.
