Does anyone know how much vit d I should take (would be helpful). I have just tested positive and am a diabetic so trying to do everything I can to stay well.

As per the instructions on the pack?

bailey999 · 13/01/2021 14:44

I thought I read on here about taking an extra high dose when you have covid?

OP posts:
Shouldbedoing · 13/01/2021 14:46

I think it's more about not being Vitamin D deficient than it is about having a surplus of Vit D

Mindymomo · 13/01/2021 15:18

I am taking dose of 1000 daily which I am told is ok. Some are taking dose of 4000 a day plus zinc and vitamin C.

dementedpixie · 13/01/2021 15:21

10ug/400IU is the standard amount
100ug/4000IU is the maximum amount. Anything between the 2 is ok to take

bailey999 · 13/01/2021 16:12

Thank you very much

I ordered the 1000 dose.

I got type 1 diabetes and tested positive for covid to. Can I ask has it affect your sugar level yet? I actually been going hypo more often.

bailey999 · 13/01/2021 17:36

I'm type 2 and diet controlled. My blood sugars have gone up, and I haven't eaten a thing yet today. I have started taking metformin again and have ordered a load of blood test strips. Its very scary. I am also overweight and have raised bp.

When did you test positive? How are you feeling?

OP posts:
Notnowokay · 13/01/2021 17:54

I’m overwight and just recently started to lose weight. I got my positive email late last night.

I’m got a weak cough and a sore throat. My anxiety is high though, but I’m hoping it won’t get worse.

How are you feeling?

bailey999 · 13/01/2021 18:11

I feel exactly the same regarding the anxiety. I have been an anxious mess since March. I have been so careful, I even handed my notice in at work (last shift was going to be next Wednesday) because I was so worried about catching it.

My husband is ecv and is now isolating away from me upstairs. I'm so annoyed he was so close to getting vaccine Sad

I just have a gritty throat, slight temp (below 37.8), a headache, and feel a bit achy, no cough and I didn't actually meet criteria for testing. I just had a horrible feeling, just hope things don't change symptom wise.

Take 4000 or 5000iu per day, OP. Order Solgar off Amazon, if you can.
Also I recommend Zahler zinc with elderberry lozenges. Though you may want to get standard 25-30mg zinc picolinate, which is gentle on the stomach. Zinc can make you feel sick if taken on an empty stomach. But the picolinate acid will help your body absorb the zinc better AND you won't feel queasy. Solgar, again, is the brand I go to, every time.
If you can, sleep prone (on your stomach)- this is key! It's very effective at raising those oxygen saturation levels.
I do eucalyptus steams (head over the sink, hot water from the kettle into the sink, couple of drops of eucalyptus oil, towel over the head and breathe).
It's worth getting a cheap pulse oximeter to make sure your O2 saturation stays >95.
Flowers
Oh! And I suggest rubbing vaporub on your soles. It really helps if you develop a cough.

Notnowokay · 13/01/2021 19:36

@bailey999 I’m very sorry to hear about your dh🤞he doesn’t catch it.

I don’t know what to say about your ruined plans. You made a big sacrifice for your dh health, which is very admirable.

I was just worried about my young children especially the 8 month old baby who was slightly premature and needed some oxygen for couple of days after birth. I know self isolating away from him would cause a big damage (I’m also breastfeeding him still). He also hates it when I wear a mask so I’m not wearing a mask around him. I’m very aware covid affects children less, I can’t just turn my worries off.

bailey999 · 13/01/2021 20:04

Yep I've got 5 children at home I'm trying to look after, im wearing a face mask but it may well be too late. (The youngest is 6 though so a bit easier than what you have got on your hands)

Be very careful with that sort of dosage. It can affect your eyes (as can diabetes). 4500 I think is the upper limit of what you can take before it can become toxic, so someone with underlying issues may need to be careful.

I take 4000 5 times a week for back pain.

dementedpixie · 13/01/2021 20:27

Nhs says 100ug/4000IU max without medical advice

AKissAndASmile · 13/01/2021 20:35

@Notnowokay it's fab that you're breastfeeding. Baby will be getting your antibodies...his own vaccine! I really would try and wear the mask around him, though. He'll get used to it.

Notnowokay · 13/01/2021 20:40

Wow, five children to care/ homeschool on your own don’t sound fun. Hopefully the schools are keeping them to busy.

Which reminds me, if we get unwell would we still need to sit the dc in front of the computer? Ds2 is four years old (he is in reception) and dc are doing 5 hours lessons four days a week. On Fridays it’s half a day with two lessons. I can’t imagine helping him/ handing him the correct books/ clearing the living room for pe while having a fever.

bailey999 · 13/01/2021 21:57

I have emailed the school saying dont expect much in terms of home learning for the time being. I will get them online for their morning registration but that will probably be it. I'm not putting any extra pressure on myself. Just do as little or as much as you feel able. Rest up as much as you can x

Hope you both feel better soon and get mild doses. My DH is diabetic too and I worry about him catching it.

nameinlights · 14/01/2021 09:19

I'm taking 4000 iu, with vit k added for extra absorption.

bailey999 · 14/01/2021 11:05

Feel up and down xxx

WilsonMilson · 14/01/2021 12:20

I’m taking 1000iu a day, the Vitabiotics one. Also taking a fizzy 1000mg Viramin C and 15mg zinc tablet. Not sure if that’s enough zinc, but better than nothing at all. Haven’t had covid, hoping to stay that way!
