Covid Scotland - new restrictions tomorrow? 13/01.

I’m trying to think what “new” restrictions they’re talking about that could be brought in tomorrow?

We can’t see anyone, we can’t do anything, we can’t go anywhere.

What exactly is there left to crack down on? What secret activities are there going on that I’m currently unaware of that are causing such a huge rise in infection and death rates in 100s of people?

It's non essential click and collect and take aways I think. What else have we got?

2pinkginsplease · 12/01/2021 23:19

THere was talk of click and collect stopping and also more restrictions for take aways.

Goodness knows what else!

DumplingsAndStew · 12/01/2021 23:22

I didn't realise they had said tighter restrictions from tomorrow.

I'm going to guess they will prevent you meeting someone else for exercise and have it just be alone or with your household, like last year.

Possibly close takeaways if they think that could be a source - as in make them deliveries only, no pick ups!

Not sure what else there is!

LizzieMacQueen · 12/01/2021 23:24

Yes. Click & collect and construction. Should be the premier league being stopped. That Celtic story was ridiculous. Why should they be exempt?

Pop over to Scotsnet, there's a thread running there on it.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 12/01/2021 23:28

Yeah might be professional sport. The Celtic story was fecking ridiculous and NS is right to be fuming about it. No meeting anyone/no travelling for exercise?

Randomrebel · 12/01/2021 23:28

No doubt England will follow suit by the end of the week if not before.

charliespie · 12/01/2021 23:33

Oh yes, I had forgotten about construction.

I think it will be drive through/ delivery only for the coffee shops and perhaps delivery only for food take aways.

2pinkginsplease · 12/01/2021 23:43

I’ve not heard anything about construction, what’s the whispers about that?

charliespie · 12/01/2021 23:45

She just said it's one of the industries being looked at.

2pinkginsplease · 12/01/2021 23:49

Thanks @charliespie

TiredUselessHopeless · 12/01/2021 23:55

Delivery only on take away really penalises those who live rurally though!

I hadn’t thought about construction being a problem, but that makes sense.

Click and Collect didn’t occur to me to be a huge threat either. The times I’ve used it I’ve had a specific time and there’s never been another person there. It’s surely going to put more strain on the postal service too? God knows how they are coping! Unless perhaps they restrict it too.

The Scottish government gave Celtic permission for the Dubai trip on 12th nov. So why NS is fuming is beyond me.

Friendsoneuptown · 13/01/2021 08:14

No click and collect
Clarity on what’s an essential shop/office
No meeting one other for exercise
Food to be delivery only except supermarkets so takeaways mainly.

LDpuppy · 13/01/2021 08:20

NS was clear that the Gov did not give permission for the Dubai trip. She said the rules at that time were clarified for them but that it's not the government's place to give permission. She also pointed out that the rules then changed and the destination changed.
angelopal · 13/01/2021 08:20

Hope they do not stop us from meeting someone outside for exercise. I think some form of social contact is really important for mental health especially as it is likely that restrictions are going to be in place for some time.

Agree with pp that Celtic had the trip signed off so not sure why she is complaining now.

Takeaways are a life line for a lot of hospitality business. They should remain to help them unless there is strong evidence that it is being spread by them.

florafoxtrot · 13/01/2021 08:23

Do wonder if it’ll be takeaways. Devastating for businesses but does seem like this new strain is causing a lot more community transmission.

Just got to hope the numbers keep moving in the right direction and some of the strain comes off the NHS.

Celtic thing is bloody ridiculous. We are all allowed to be annoyed about it!

FindHungrySamurai · 13/01/2021 08:24

Bear in mind that even if the customers aren’t huddled around outside and even if they collect their food briskly at arms length at the door, most takeaway kitchens are small and cramped environments where workers are stuck together for hours at a time. It’s surely got to be a high risk workplace.

ssd · 13/01/2021 08:26

Celtic shouldn't have gone but they were allowed to go.

starfish4 · 13/01/2021 08:27

Yes, I think a few of us will be watching this one as we normally follow on a couple of days later along a similar vein.

Non essential click and collect last week was mentioned for Scotland, ie not Bodyshop, B&Q for repair items only. Also, delivery only for takeaways. NS said anything that restricts travel. Guess they've considered two people exercising together. Maybe masks outside. Delay students returning. It's all a possibility.

IceDiscoSkater · 13/01/2021 08:36

Expecting:

No meeting up with anyone outside at all
Limits on travel - back to March - only exercise by walking from house
Shutting of non essential click and collect like Argos / Next / Smyths toys
Closing of take away coffee shops and sandwich shops that you need to actually enter to pay and get your item eg Costa / Greggs ( greggs and costa in our town still very busy with queues daily )

Not sure about construction, surely this is a massive industry which if closed means huge tax revenue loss for the government?
Also it would be terrible as lots of self employed contractors within this industry who will get zero financial support in Covid schemes .

Given up on any announcements on school, have pretty much resigned myself to the schools being off until June. Mentally preparing for 6 months with a house full of kids. Everything else pales into comparison with this disaster.

DumplingsAndStew · 13/01/2021 09:02

@ssd

Celtic shouldn't have gone but they were allowed to go.
Isn't it more about their conduct when they were there? It was allowed under the rules of being a working trip, but the photos that were seen showed it to be a holiday.

I wonder if they could say if you are meeting with someone outdoors for exercise, commit to it being the same person each time, as that would slow any chain of transmission.
DumplingsAndStew · 13/01/2021 09:05

I think our recycling and waste centre is still open as usual, which it wasn't in the 2020 lockdown - that could change!

ParkheadParadise · 13/01/2021 09:10

More Misery ☹☹

RaspberryCoulis · 13/01/2021 09:13

Agree that they will clamp down on collecting takeaways - which will hammer local coffee shops and cafes as people collecting a coffee or a couple of scones is all that is keeping them going. People are not going to order a £3 coffee and pay another £3 to have it delivered. No way. These places will close and many won't reopen. Also agree that it will really hammer people who live rurally, my parents are 5 miles from the nearest town in a small village and takeaways won't deliver that far out. That's not unusual, we;re in the suburbs of Glasgow and Deliveroo don't come this far.

Click and collect should not be an issue if shops organise the queuing properly. We have a Waitrose nearby and loads of people order John Lewis click and collect from them. They have a double patio door opening from their cafe area (which is closed) so you don't even need to go into the store to collect.

I won't be complying with masks outside if she decides to go down that route. When I'm out for my walks I rarely see anyone. I don't think they'll do that anyway, there is no appetite for it.

First world problems - but I bet they'll stop my (self-employed, single-parent, depends on the money) cleaner from coming again.
