Supermarkets need to get real!

When will supermarkets stop being a day out and only allow single parents in with kids and not families and couples?

Why doesn’t one parent wait in the car?

OP posts:
ShalomToYouJackie · 11/01/2021 19:22

Sainsburys stopped me and DP at the door today and said only one of us could come in (I can't walk without holding onto someone atm and I needed to get my prescription from the chemist in there but they still wouldn't let us in together)

Persianparadise · 11/01/2021 19:24

I find it annoying, since this has all began. It doesn't need three adults, 2 teenagers and a couple of small kids to do a weekly shop. They need to start telling the security guards to allow one person per trolley. It’s annoying when the queue is halfway along the car park and then a whole family wants to go in. I feel sorry for the staff, who are dealing with this every day. Iv learned from this pandemic there are entitled, selfish, greedy feckers in this country.

Givemeabreak88 · 11/01/2021 19:24

Let’s remember not all single parents have time away from their kids so we can’t all do it while the kids are at the dads house 😕 mine are with me 24/7

Givemeabreak88 · 11/01/2021 19:25

Also as for shopping online many seem to think people should be leaving those slots for the vulnerable and shielding so you can’t win either way

TonMoulin · 11/01/2021 19:25

Because I need help to go round the supermarket.
Don’t have dcs with me (they are teens 😂😂) but would if they were younger

The great thing about having teens is they can do the shopping themselves!
Tanfastic · 11/01/2021 19:29

I don't think I've ever been to the supermarket with my other half for as long as we've been married, why do people do this? Confused

Couldn’t your DP have picked up the prescription?
MellowYellow101 · 11/01/2021 19:32

Yep all my locals treat it like a family day out. I'm sure it'll change by the end of the week given Chris Whitty's less than enthusiastic outlook.

MellowYellow101 · 11/01/2021 19:33

@HoppingOnSteppingStones

A friend of mine doesn't drive her husband does. She won't leave the child in car with husband as he has no patience when child messes about. (whole other story) But won't wait in car whilst he shops as he's ' greedy and buys too much for himself' So they HAVE to shop as a Family apparently! They go most days as the child is bored indoors.
Can she just not give him a shopping list to stick to?
TonMoulin · 11/01/2021 19:37

Except that at this game, people with mobility issues are basically stuck at home wo ever been able to do anything at all.

Plus of course if the pharmacist has a question they might not get the right answer from the partner etc....

The system as it currently is is extremely ableist. And so are many posters. Strangely enough, many more people were extremely vocal about masks and their exemption Hmm but never when it comes to mobility issues and those people ‘jumping the queue’ or having help.

BananaPop2020 · 11/01/2021 19:37

Just putting it out there - if you are getting a big or heavy shop, and don’t drive, what are you meant to do then? Surely going once with a partner is better than multiple shops in the week?

SendHelp30 · 11/01/2021 19:39

@BananaPop2020 delivery or taxi

Sirzy · 11/01/2021 19:40

It’s nothing to do with being ableist. It’s about trying to minimise contact people have with others and numbers in shops.

My dad is disabled and can’t shop alone, so he stays at home while my mum goes. He doesn’t like it but he accepts that’s the case.

It’s shit I get it I really do but it’s what we are living and the more people who push things that little bit because they fancy going out the longer the shit will go on.

Stillgoings · 11/01/2021 19:41

I work in a supermarket. I hate it when big family groups come down my aisle but I'm not going to ask them not to. I'm scared enough of the virus anyway. I don't have the luxury of working from home. I have to go out there and it is frightening. We have 16 members of staff off at the moment. I don't want to engage with people and have them talk to me and breathe on me anymore than I have to. I saw that Morrisons are going to ban people coming in without masks.todqy. To me all that means is lairy horrible people shouting in your face. My wish is that retail staff get bumped up the list for the vaccine. If I've had my jab I might just want to tackle some of the selfish idiots

peak2021 · 11/01/2021 19:43

I agree, but would most women trust their DH to do the shopping and get everything correct?

ShalomToYouJackie · 11/01/2021 19:43

Couldn’t your DP have picked up the prescription? Yes that was the plan and I was waiting outside for him but they wanted ID which I've never experienced before and didn't have on me so tried to go in together and they wouldn't let us

BananaPop2020 · 11/01/2021 19:44

Again, playing devils advocate - delivery is out of the question for many! I had Covid recently and absolutely could not get a slot.

TonMoulin · 11/01/2021 19:45

It is @Sirzy when you refuse any adaptations for those who have issues. In that case with mobility.

It’s not because someone has some mobility issue that they shouldn’t be allowed to see a pharmacist or do their shopping. Or go out (see the ‘youre not allowed to sit on a bench’ brigade).
I personally don’t want to be treated like a prisoner because I can’t do things the same way than able people. It’s hard enough to be restricted in that way to start with.

Jesus wept. Its the family shop. Its not rocket science.

It’s a sad and sorry state of affairs if a grown adult man can’t do a food shop. If he’s terminally stupid how about a list?
ToadsThePeanutButterSnob · 11/01/2021 19:49

Why doesn’t one parent wait in the car?

Maybe they arrived on foot?

DP has done 99% of the shopping since the pandemic started and he's managed fine. Then again he isn't a man child.
Heyahun · 11/01/2021 19:51

We don’t all drive to the supermarket 😂

vanillandhoney · 11/01/2021 19:52
@BananaPop2020 delivery or taxi
Not everyone can get a delivery slot. Not everywhere has taxis.

Yes, I'm playing Devil's Advocate to an extent, but for some people it will be the case.
