Supermarkets need to get real!

When will supermarkets stop being a day out and only allow single parents in with kids and not families and couples?

Why doesn’t one parent wait in the car?

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2021 13:24

The browsing is why there's a queue outside, and people not able to get to the shelves within 2 metres. I like to browse but not at the moment. In and out.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 12/01/2021 13:34

@Justa47 even a hidden disability Hmm
What about not having enough to do a minimum spend shop of £25? A magic money tree?

This thread reeks of privilege. Why can't grown adults accept that their situation isn't everyone else's?

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 12/01/2021 13:36

So what if people browse - I've said this before but I think people won't be happy until we're all running round screaming our heads off, legging it round Morrison's in tears and then self flagellate on the way home for having the audacity to go to the shops.

People's willingness and excitement to turn this country into a police state is seriously worrying. Micro managing other people's shopping habits? Get a life!

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 12/01/2021 13:36

And it's not a problem to browse to ensure ingredients don't have something that will trigger allergies.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 12/01/2021 13:36

All the up thread recent posts is basically a long endless list of pre pandemic normalities and now pandemic niceties.

In a pandemic war these pre pandemic niceties are a part of the problem and cause and not the solution.

People need to finally wake up and realise this is a pandemic as these are not pre pandemic normal times.

You simply cannot behave as if there is no medical emergency pandemic that has already killed 80k+ and possibly one every two minutes (1440 minutes daily) every 24 hours some where within the UK and possibly including your community.

Your reckless selfish behaviour therefore needs to be highly modified and moderated to best cope with pandemic war situations.

Not difficult to understand as pre pandemic entitlement selfish me me me culture is history and not survival-able in a pandemic. You may well have health and mobility privilege to shop at leisure with non or superficial mask compliance and social distancing etc etc but obviously you are likely to be that human virus vector for people to people asymptomatic super spreading mutating super spreading leading ultimately to the fatalities of those with least health privilege and most vulnerabilities!

Perhaps stay away from potential trouble and be a part of the solution not cause if possible?!

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2021 13:37

So what if people browse

If that actually needs explaining to you then there is genuinely no hope. If you can't understand then that's on you. I'm not wasting my time.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 12/01/2021 13:38

@ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia or maybe people genuinely can't shop alone? What should I do with my 5yo and 8yo kids? Leave them outside in a puddle?

You think it's wrong if people browse to ensure they can eat something without dying? It's no supermarket sweep, people can't just run round dumping things in their trollies. Some (most) people need to look at what they are buying.

Also not sure how browsing, not touching anything but looking with your eyes, increases risk of contamination?

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2021 13:40

Lol at 'police state'. Grin

PoppiesinOctober · 12/01/2021 13:40

Cringe.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 12/01/2021 13:41

Lol at thinking this kind of behaviour (looking around and deciding who should and shouldn't be in a shop, and deciding they're taking too long/shouldn't be in that aisle/must be covidiots) is normal or healthy behaviour even in a pandemic Grin

Sparklingbrook · 12/01/2021 13:42

Such drama. There are signs up in M&S saying don't handle the products unless you are going to buy them and that makes sense.

If you are genuinely 'browsing' with just your eyes then crack on.

Stellaris22 · 12/01/2021 13:42

Try working in a supermarket, people do not 'browse with their eyes'. Things are always picked up.

Even small stores have sections specifically for vegan or gluten free.

Checking ingredients is necessary and fine, or even checking prices for a budget.

Browsing because you are trying to think 'what should I have for dinner' isn't ok. Make a list, meal plan. I even do my list according to where I know things are in store.

I wonder if people with hidden disabilities and therefore unable to shop alone are included in the seLFiSH bEHavIouR judgement? Because his pandemic really seems to have brought out the ableism in some people

What a patronising rant.

Pandemic war situation, indeed.

And I'm fairly sure that everyone on this thread realises that this is a pandemic, thanks.

DuchessofHastings1 · 12/01/2021 13:45

I work in a supermarket and have said this from the start.

We cannot approach anyone without a face mask and challenge them.

We can't ask families to shop one person per household unless 1 adult has to bring in children.

It's a joke. We can't enforce it or even suggest it -and if we do, it would be non stop abuse and people complaining.

We should be able to enforce it. Its madness he people can't go to a restaurant, be seated with table service and yet people can hoard in without masks on, shoving past each other and treat it as a family day out.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 12/01/2021 13:45

There's a real problem with impatience in this country it seems. You can't wait a tiny bit longer so someone can have a think about what they will buy? I personally don't mind it but I'm not a micro managing weirdo 🤷‍♀️

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 12/01/2021 13:46

@ JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows

No one is asking you to sell your new born etc etc. All you need to sensible do is to moderate your behaviour accordingly. If you are a sole responsible parent with children then of course you by necessity would need to shop with them together. But if possible pre plan and space out your logistical necessities. In a war, buy what you can when you can and not be shopping unnecessarily. If you can get help or contactless delivery the all the better. People need to adapt and there should ideally be priority for those with most logistical need and support.

It’s spreading because you are there and untested so can’t be guaranteed to be Covid feee anymore. Leisurely browsing etc etc would not happen in a traditional war with bombs and other dangers! Treat the pandemic as a war but only fighting and avoiding visible potential dangers - other potentially contagious people!

MerciSeat · 12/01/2021 13:47

@JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows that poster is fond of calling those who are exempt selfish lazy covidiots and worse, so yes, I expect so.

This is not a war for heaven's sake. Stop going on about bombs.

During current times, sensible people want to get in and out of the supermarket as quickly as they can. The longer they hang about the more likely that they might catch something after all. Nothing to do with impatience, all about practicality and lowering risk.
ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 12/01/2021 13:54

Ok we have to agree to disagree as evidently there is a pandemic awareness divide - proactive believers who want to save lives and others who don’t see what the fuss is all about.

It’s not a war but why are excess fatalities a thing? What’s the cause? Any ideas? Who is doing this and why is it happening and getting worst? Can it ever stop or indeed to the non believers should it stop?
