Isolating and exercise, would you?

DD22 is a student and tested positive on Thursday. DS, DH and I are all self isolating as per guidelines and have had negative tests I 'm an HCP and very law abiding.
I'm really struggling with low mood and the only thing that helps in these circumstances is a good long run through the woods.
We live very rurally and never see anyone, rarely even a car on the road in the distance and I had the first vaccine on 21st December.
Would you risk it?

No. You bloody well Stay Home and don’t be so irresponsible.

I’m a HCP too. I’ve had the vaccine too.

So far there is no evidence the Pfizer vaccine stops transmission. You could still become positive in between your weekly tests and still transmit it.

So far every single one of my family members has had to go to A&E for something non-Covid related during the various lockdowns. Two accidents, appendicitis etc. You could need medical attention when out. A relative broke their neck falling off a kerb first time out in months. It’s icy out there. Shit happens.

There’s a chance that through selfishness you could infect other people who could in turn infect others.

Just stay home. You should know better than this.

Everytime one of these threads pop up the poster almost always guarantees they will never see another soul - aye right.

tatutata · 11/01/2021 15:24

Actually sorry I didn't see anything about vaccination.
Well if we are all going to be isolating even after vaccination of all over 16s is complete, we can forget about a functioning economy. Kids would carry on catching it, and all of us with under 16s would have to take weeks off work every year. So yeah, nah, fuck that. Go for a run.

WouldBeGood · 11/01/2021 15:24

Yes, without a thought in those circumstances

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/01/2021 15:28

Exactly what sort of law-abiding HCP are you? Hmm

Reinventinganna · 11/01/2021 15:29

We don’t see another soul when out either but I don’t think I could walk if positive. I might not see anyone but I would know.
Being a HCP and law abiding means nothing if you are going to have double standards.

Bluesheep8 · 11/01/2021 15:29

Yes, without a thought in those circumstances

"Without a single thought" is the key part of this response. Without a single thought for anyone except yourself, you mean. Why do people think the rules don't apply to them?

WouldBeGood · 11/01/2021 15:39

You can’t infect people who aren’t there

Bluesheep8 · 11/01/2021 15:46

So why don't the rules say "isolate, unless you can go somewhere for a run where you know you won't see another person. Or touch anything they might touch"

RickOShay · 11/01/2021 15:49

I think I would yes. You won’t see anyone, so who could you potential pas it on to? A pheasant?

Suzi888 · 11/01/2021 15:49

It’s not encountering people that’s the problem, it’s if you fall.

If you break something as long as your happy to crawl home, wait until isolation is complete and not ring 999, then go for it. Wink

TheOrigRights · 11/01/2021 15:50

I run. A lot. I do most of my exercise outside and would find it really hard to have to give it up for 10 days.

I think what I would do is see if I could borrow an exercise bike or one of those stands that allow you to do stationary biking with your own bike, and sit in the garden and cycle like I was being chased by zombies.

It's not just the elevation in heart rate that I need, it's being outside and away from it all.

I'd also use the time to do those all important core exercises I should do.

yearinyearout · 11/01/2021 15:54

You know for certain you have covid.

She doesn't.

Purplethrow · 11/01/2021 15:55

I despair, why do people think they are different to everyone else? Rules are rules, please stick to them .

Bluesheep8 · 11/01/2021 15:57

Shame there isn't a vaccine against selfishness.

FOJN · 11/01/2021 16:16

The world and its wife has developed a love for the great outdoors since there's nothing else to do so I don't think you could guarantee you wouldn't meet anyone.

Timedoesntfly · 11/01/2021 16:21

Thanks for the replies, I expected and deserve a battering.

To my knowledge I don't have CV19, I had strong antibodies in August, had the vaccine in December and had a negative swab on Thursday.

I won't run for another week but I'd argue that my behaviour is less risky than all the untested, possibly asymptomatic people in city parks and packed beaches.

Bluntness100 · 11/01/2021 16:22

Yes, if you are one hundred percent sure you’re not going to be near someone.

oneglassandpuzzled · 11/01/2021 16:27

@PurpleDaisies

It is totally different choosing to violate the self isolation rules when you know you have covid.

You know for certain you have covid.

It would be beyond selfish to go out.

Stay home.

She doesn't have Covid.
PurpleDaisies · 11/01/2021 16:29

She doesn't have Covid

Which I have said in a later post. Hmm

Lifeispassingby · 11/01/2021 16:29

no isolate means isolate FFS it’s really not complicated

Bluesheep8 · 11/01/2021 17:03

How can anyone ever be categorically 100% sure they won't see another person. They cant! That's why isolate means isolate FFS.

friendlycat · 11/01/2021 18:13

What is amazing is the person upthread who does have Covid but has been out doing a run around their cul de sac. I truly despair at the utter selfishness of people.

middleager · 11/01/2021 18:24

Nope, I didn't leave my house in our SIs.

SnoozyLou · 11/01/2021 22:54

I know. Everyone is so careful, it boggles the mind how this virus is still doing the rounds 🤔
