Isolating and exercise, would you?

DD22 is a student and tested positive on Thursday. DS, DH and I are all self isolating as per guidelines and have had negative tests I 'm an HCP and very law abiding.
I'm really struggling with low mood and the only thing that helps in these circumstances is a good long run through the woods.
We live very rurally and never see anyone, rarely even a car on the road in the distance and I had the first vaccine on 21st December.
Would you risk it?

OP posts:
DownWhichOfLate · 11/01/2021 13:09

No. But mainly because you need to keep your energy reserves in case you become unwell.

Bluesheep8 · 11/01/2021 13:09

Hold on, you're a HCP and you're asking this? Hmm isolate means isolate. I despair.

AuntieStella · 11/01/2021 13:10

No way

Sparklehead · 11/01/2021 13:10

It’s really hard but I wouldn’t. I am also an HCP and currently at home with Covid (despite having had the vaccine on 31st). My DH and 3 young DC are having to isolate as per the guidelines. We briefly discussed my DH taking them out early in the morning to get some exercise but dismissed it. I think we all just have to stick to the rules rigidly. Life feels like it’s just one long endurance test at the moment, it’s awful but it’s the way it is. You are halfway through your isolation period. Just keep going. All the best.

Carysmatthews · 11/01/2021 13:10

Why are you asking. How hard is it to follow instructions. Isolate means don’t leave the house.
This is just going to rumble on and on isn’t it if people can’t even follow simple instructions.

Pipandmum · 11/01/2021 13:11

Some things may not make logical sense but they have to draw a line. Don't cross it.

Phlicker · 11/01/2021 13:12

It's the same reason I wouldn't recommend going up a ladder or operating power tools.
You could slip and have an accident. Then you would have to call for help. The person who helps you is a contact. You might break a bone and have to go to hospital, there you would be in contact with many other people.

Cyw2018 · 11/01/2021 13:13

I would do it. I live very rurally (only property behind us for 2 miles is a farmer in a caravan), so wouldn't be putting anyone at risk.

muddledmidget · 11/01/2021 13:13

No because it really isn't worth the risk. If you stumble when someone is nearby they are going to come over and check you are ok, potentially catching covid for their trouble. That's not fair, even if you think it's unlikely you'll see anybody and never stumble, it's sods law that the time you're breaking the law to get a run will be the time it happens. Also most people I know with long covid did too much too soon, so if you're asymptomatic it could be a problem in the longer term. Everyone is struggling with their mental health and wants to push the boundaries but what you're proposing isn't a boundary, it's a law and as a HCP you know you can't. Everyone on mumsnet can tell you it's OK, but that's no defence if you're called in front of your regulatory body to defend why you needed an ambulance in the middle of the woods when you should have been isolating. If you think you can explain it to your Statutory Committee, go ahead, but I don't fancy your chances!

@Cyw2018

Unless you injure yourself and need hospital treatment

PurpleDaisies · 11/01/2021 13:19

It is totally different choosing to violate the self isolation rules when you know you have covid.

You know for certain you have covid.

It would be beyond selfish to go out.

Stay home.

MadeForThis · 11/01/2021 13:23

No. Totally selfish.

Bluesheep8 · 11/01/2021 13:25

Unbelievable. What is wrong with people??

SausagePourHomme · 11/01/2021 13:26

No.

Lucieintheskye · 11/01/2021 13:28

No, twat

Fiadh79 · 11/01/2021 13:30

@Sofetikal

Unless you go over on your ankle and need medical help... you are a close contact of a positive case, just stay at home.
This. Don't do it. It's really irresponsible.
Plump82 · 11/01/2021 13:31

@arthurdaly

I feel you! DH & I tested positive last Tuesday, might only be 10 days but it's 10 days of pure hell trying to work and deal with a toddler. I broke yesterday and ran 2.5k round our cul du sac...I imagine if I hadn't my DH might have been calling the police for other reasons.
Well thank god you never fell, or hurt yourself when you had your nice 2.5k round the cul-de-sac. Im getting so fed up hearing and reading about things like this.
Pavit · 11/01/2021 13:34

Having the vaccine doesn't mean you don't have to follow isolation rules. Do some exercise videos in the house and go for thr run when the isolation period is over.

HermioneWeasley · 11/01/2021 13:35

To be a dissenting voice, yes I would.

There is no risk of transmission. You could fall down the stairs at home and need medical assistance FFS.

I wouldn’t advocate the supermarket, or anywhere where you are likely to be in proximity with others, but there’s zero risk of transmission from completely isolated outdoor exercise.

OverTheRainbow88 · 11/01/2021 13:35

@arthurdaly

You went out running whilst knowing you have covid?

What a selfish selfish selfish person you are. Shameful

Bohemiagirl · 11/01/2021 13:35

Arthurdaly you should be ashamed of yourself. Disgraceful.

HunkyPunk · 11/01/2021 13:36

Where does it say the op has Covid? The op does not have Covid. Her dd has Covid. In fact her first post states that she has had a test, which was negative. Whatever your opinion on the op's question, don't try to accuse her of something she isn't actually doing!
Sirzy · 11/01/2021 13:38

As a HCP I wonder what your workplace would have to say if they discovered you where breaking isolation rules?

TheDivineMsRusso · 11/01/2021 13:40

OP, if you decide to stay home, a cardio workout would be a good substitute for a run. I've been doing MadFit on YouTube--high intensity dance routines. They're fun, easy routines and they're real mood boosters. Smile

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/01/2021 13:41

Well that's no isolating is it?
