Isolating and exercise, would you?

DD22 is a student and tested positive on Thursday. DS, DH and I are all self isolating as per guidelines and have had negative tests I 'm an HCP and very law abiding.
I'm really struggling with low mood and the only thing that helps in these circumstances is a good long run through the woods.
We live very rurally and never see anyone, rarely even a car on the road in the distance and I had the first vaccine on 21st December.
Would you risk it?

@Bohemiagirl

I agree, what is wrong with people?

I’d like to think that when I look back at this in a few years time I can be proud that we didn’t go out knowingly having covid.

TonMoulin · 11/01/2021 13:42

NO.

Ive had that discussion with dc1 who has to self isolate.He was gutted but especially now that rates are sky high and the virus is more transmissible, I wouldnt take the risk.

Worth remembering that you didn't have covid when you did the test but might well have it now as you are living together. Transmission within households is very high now (wasnt before). So I would treat the situation as if you were postive tbh.

arthurdaly · 11/01/2021 13:42

Yup, I'm shameful and selfish! Better than the position I found myself in yesterday which would have resulted in something a lot worse happening.
I didn't see anyone, I didn't and wouldn't have gone near anyone. For those saying I could have broken a leg etc etc I could have done that at home.
I'm so done with the whole thing and the dark thoughts I've been trying so hard to push away aren't going away. Don't worry I won't go for another run because give it a few days and I'll probably just give up all together

Thefeep · 11/01/2021 13:43

Yes I would. It’s about managing risk. The reason you’re told to isolate is to stop the spread. You have zero chance of passing on the virus especially as you don’t necessarily even have it.

Mrsemcgregor · 11/01/2021 13:44

@arthurdaly

I feel you! DH & I tested positive last Tuesday, might only be 10 days but it's 10 days of pure hell trying to work and deal with a toddler. I broke yesterday and ran 2.5k round our cul du sac...I imagine if I hadn't my DH might have been calling the police for other reasons.
I can’t believe you were so unbelievably utterly stupid and selfish.

FFS what is wrong with some people

“Oh I was so stressed with my husband and children I gave myself super special status and declared myself above the rules because I’m such a precious fucking princess”

Un.Fucking.Believable.

Thefeep · 11/01/2021 13:45

@PurpleDaisies - she doesn’t have COVID and has tested negative.

Mrsemcgregor · 11/01/2021 13:47

And if you are insinuating you would have literally harmed yourself if you didn’t have a run then you needed to call 111 for an emergency chat with a GP about your mental health. Or the Samaritans. If you are genuinely suicidal, which I doubt because most suicidal people aren’t cured with 1 short run.
PurpleDaisies · 11/01/2021 13:47

Apologies, I meant she had a covid positive person in her household.

Having tested negative is irrelevant. Having had the vaccine is irrelevant. Being previously law abiding is irrelevant.

She needs to isolate just like the rest of us would in the same situation.

HyacynthBucket · 11/01/2021 13:49

Why are you even asking this? its totally out of order to even think of doing it. And to all the others on here who say go for it - I wsay - what if you meet someone else on a pathway who could be vulnerable? There would probably not be enough room to pass them at 2m distance and you would be huffing and puffing into their airspace. This happened to me yesterday, when a cyclist came up behind me and passed within a metre. He could not have cared less that I am particularly vulnerable to the infection. This attitude is just deplorable. So yes YABVERYU.

NoOneOwnsTheRainbow · 11/01/2021 13:53

Are you completely stupid? If you're really "An HCP and very law abiding" why are you even considering this? I can only imagine you've got a fever that's making you delirious. Hmm

MadinMarch · 11/01/2021 14:00

Why aryou even asking this?
How many other ways do you think you're a special case?

OverTheRainbow88 · 11/01/2021 14:01

@arthurdaly
You need to call your GP ASAP and see if they can arrange emergency CBT or something on the phone.

Don’t give up, there’s a lot to live for, we just all need to get through this

FippertyGibbett · 11/01/2021 14:07

No. If you trip on your run and need the emergency services you’ll be putting them at risk.

Waspnest · 11/01/2021 14:13

No. Because one person breaking the rules seems to be used by others to justify them also breaking the rules.

Calmandmeasured1 · 11/01/2021 14:19

Absolutely not. You should assume you have the virus. You may have a negative test at the moment but the virus has an incubation period (hence the 10 days self-isolating) and in, say, 2 more days you may test positive.

FFS, don't be selfish and go for a long run when you have a good chance of having the virus, just because your mood is low.

again2020 · 11/01/2021 14:28

I run a lot too to help my mental health, so I do understand, but you need to find alternative ways of exercising. It's only for a few days. Look up some exercise videos on youtube, some starjumps in the garden, run on the spot, skipping.

KihoBebiluPute · 11/01/2021 14:30

No - really don't.

I am a runner and I get very stressed and antzy if I can't run. I had to isolate from Boxing Day till early January due to a close contact on 23rd December (fortunately I hadn't seen anyone on Christmas day). I bought a skipping rope (same day delivery Amazon Prime) and exercised in my kitchen which was very frustrating and not nearly as good as going for a run. However, I am really bad at nuance in interpreting rules (I have ASD) and so I didn't leave the house/garden - I found it easier to skip in the kitchen than on the patio tbh (more even surface underfoot, and felt less self-conscious about being overlooked by neighbours). Anyway, I survived the isolation and am now back to running and I think this would be the right thing to do - even more so for you because you definitely have been exposed, whereas for me it was just a possibility given that the only times I had been near other people on the date in question I was wearing a mask and so were they.

frustrationcentral · 11/01/2021 14:51

No I wouldn't as I'd worry that if I had an accident I'd need medical help

bigbluebus · 11/01/2021 15:08

No. Put YouTube on and do some exercise classes in the house. As an HCP you know that the vaccine doesn't necessarily prevent transmission of the virus.

CrazyCatLazy · 11/01/2021 15:11

@FippertyGibbett

No. If you trip on your run and need the emergency services you’ll be putting them at risk.
Exactly this.
SnoozyLou · 11/01/2021 15:13

I despair reading this.

Quartz2208 · 11/01/2021 15:14

Negative test doesnt mean you at some point wont get it - it only means you didnt when the test was taken

Vaccines dont necessarily stop transmission so you could have it not realised and pass it on

You know you cant. Isolating is miserable (had to over Christmas for 10 days as DH was positive) and it was tough Christmas day dinner wasnt what we had hoped for at all. But we had to

Lottie4 · 11/01/2021 15:15

Sorry, it has to be the same for everyone, you have to stay at home. You can't guarantee there won't be anyone else out no matter how rural. Also, if you fall and hurt yourself due to being on uneven ground, who are you expecting to help you get home or even treat you? Also, as said, if you have the virus about to come out, I'd be wondering if it could actually make you more ill.

museumum · 11/01/2021 15:17

Nope, do a HIIT class or similar in the garden - it's what we did when ds had to isolate. HIIT and football skills stuff (keepy uppies etc).

tatutata · 11/01/2021 15:18

Fucks sake. Rules apply to us all.
