Why can't people just think of others!

Why can't people just follow the guidance and stay at home?
Seen it too much in the news about busy beaches, towns etc.
The sooner everyone does as they are told the quicker we will be out of this!
Trust me I'd love to take my family on an outing to the beach, could quite easily 'exercise' and go for a walk there but putting my family at risk is the last thing on my mind!
I'm protecting mine - please everyone protect yours too!

@Stripesnomore

The risk is to the number of staff who have to turn up at work to run the business.
Won’t those staff be there regardless of customers? Or wouldn’t they just lose their jobs? Like I said, local businesses are begging for customers to keep coming.

I think it would be much better if the government closed and supported those businesses, but I can understand why people think it’s very low risk for them to get a takeaway coffee from a drive through. I wouldn’t unless it was basically on the route of an essential journey.

DottyP · 10/01/2021 22:15

The selfishness of people is unbelievable. Which part of understanding the NHS is overwhelmed do they not get. We are in this situation whatever views you nay have about what and how - would you really feel ok about someone you love not receiving medical care because there are no staff to care for you or no space to look after you. Bloody stay at home. The more you do the quicker we will be out of this.

Handcarthell · 10/01/2021 22:15

You're wasting your time OP

Too many people think they know better.

PurpleDaisies · 10/01/2021 22:16

Bloody stay at home

@DottyP literally at home or stay local?

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 10/01/2021 22:16

I would love to be at home safe with my family but unfortunately I have to serve coffee to selfish, entitled people who will not follow the rules

I honestly dont see how its the customers fault...its not something i would do but if the shop is open and serving coffee why would people think that they shouldn’t be buying it

Janaih · 10/01/2021 22:16

We followed the guidance/law way more than predicted and expected in the first lockdown. So much so that we had to be bribed out of our houses with half price pub food.
We accepted the advice as law because it was on a gov website. After months of government lies, incompetence and u turns we are weary and wise to it.
Hospitals are one of the biggest areas of transmission, should we shut them? It would make the hospital admissions stats look much better.
They are full because people are taking longer to die compared to last march, as we are better at treating it.
Going for a nice walk in the fresh air is one of the few things we can still enjoy. Get to fuck with your misery Olympics.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 10/01/2021 22:17

Sadly some people are incapable of thinking of others.

That is not a pandemic thing.

Doing what is right for the greater good isn't something that many people are taught.

RuleConfusion · 10/01/2021 22:17

I spent the day here today with my dm and dc. I bought a coffee from the cafe and ate a picnic. We even drove there as my dc are lazy buggers and the walkway is often pretty busy. Unless someone came along and started licking some of the stones my son sneezed on I’m pretty sure we didn’t infect anyone.

Why can't people just think of others!
Stripesnomore · 10/01/2021 22:19

Well of course it is very low risk for the customer. It isn’t low risk for the staff who have to go into work, mix with each other, mix on public transport. The thread is about selfishness. If there were fewer customers fewer staff are required.

Obviously managing the pandemic is a balancing act between the economy and health, but I doubt those customers are deciding to all go and get a coffee to support the economy.

cataline · 10/01/2021 22:20

@HermannlovesPauline

Maybe the people on the beach were local?

Is this the headline from the daily fail earlier today? You want to take anything you read in that with a huge pinch of salt. They deliberately photograph groups to make them look close together

You're so right! I was on this beach today and actually admired the spaniel in the photo not 5 minutes after it was taken.

Yes the beach was busy but no more so than on any other day. People could still socially distance and that photo gives such a false impression. The beach is HUGE and that photo makes it look like all those people were crammed in together. They made it look like that for their sensationalist headline. Arseholes.

Also, I'm local. I live at the coast and I walk there most days. Sometimes, I drive so that I don't have as far to walk back to my house. I really couldn't give a shit if anyone thinks that's me contributing to the current spread of Covid. It really fucking isn't!

People need to stop blaming each other, stop believing dirty rag headlines and just do the best they can in the situation we find ourselves.

Follow the rules, abide by the (admittedly vague!) guidance and don't take the piss. It's awful to see how vitriolic and nasty some people have become during this pandemic. Yes, there are selfish people who are really not doing what they should be and are fuelling the spread.

Locals (and even those living a little further away who've driven a few miles to get there) walking on a massive beach are not the ones that deserve the tongue lashing here.

2020canfuckitself · 10/01/2021 22:21

@mum2jakie we are supposed to be open only for essential workers. Not families and groups of teenagers. A lot of people are treating this lockdown as a holiday

PurpleDaisies · 10/01/2021 22:22

If there were fewer customers fewer staff are required.

And then the business goes bust. And all the staff are unemployed.
I can see why people think they are allowed to buy coffee when the shop is open. It’s not easy.

The government’s communication on this could be much better. Why are those shops open if you shouldn’t be using them?

cataline · 10/01/2021 22:23

Says who?

PurpleDaisies · 10/01/2021 22:23

we are supposed to be open only for essential workers.

How is that communicated to your customers?

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 10/01/2021 22:24

@mum2jakie we are supposed to be open only for essential workers. Not families and groups of teenagers. A lot of people are treating this lockdown as a holiday

You are open for customers

Dh asked today how this could get stricter and i said closing places like coffee shops...i dont care personally whether your place is shut or open

But unfortunately you dont get to pick and choose your customers

Stripesnomore · 10/01/2021 22:24

The shops are open because the government wants to keep the economy going.

Whether or not people should do a particular activity is a moral question not just one of the law. Hence the OP asking a question about selfishness.

RuleConfusion · 10/01/2021 22:25

purpledaises of course people are allowed to buy coffee if the shop is open. They wouldn’t be allowed to open if they weren’t permitted to sell anything Confused

Robbybobtail · 10/01/2021 22:25

So today I worked my non-essential job at a chain coffee drive-thru, the amount of families coming through for a treat just angered me

I would love to be at home safe with my family but unfortunately I have to serve coffee to selfish, entitled people who will not follow the rules!

Getting a takeout coffee is allowed otherwise they wouldn’t be open. You are lucky you are working in an industry that has been allowed to remain open - many people who’s places of work have closed won’t have jobs to go back to. I find posts like yours pretty ironic.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 10/01/2021 22:27

The beach thing is really odd. I live extremely near the beach (5 minute walk and its our dog walk and always has been). I saw a facebook post with the beach seeming quite busy. I was completely confused. I have been there daily at fairly random times with either DC or ddog. (Before the fothers go on ,once a day.. we play by the rules ). It was completely dead. Often I would be able to see maybe 2 or 3 other people on the distance miles away.

Yet apparently everytime I turn my back , hordes of people descend. I mean they are very quiet if they are hiding behind the bushes.

Look people are getting lockdown exhaustion, yes some people are taking the wotsit. I absolutely believe in Covid. I follow the rules as do DC and i take it seriously but I'm not convinced the mass hysteria of people "flocking to beaches " is a sign that people are starting to exaggerate because they like the drama.

Our beaches are eerily quiet. If the hordes are there , they are playing a very skilled game of hide and seek.

mum2jakie · 10/01/2021 22:27
@mum2jakie we are supposed to be open only for essential workers. Not families and groups of teenagers. A lot of people are treating this lockdown as a holiday
I don't think there was any suggestion that takeaways are only for essential workers? I was under the impression that they remained open as a low(we) risk way of keeping such businesses viable.

PurpleDaisies · 10/01/2021 22:27

According to some posters on here those customers are both morally wrong and selfish for buying the coffee
mum2jakie · 10/01/2021 22:27

*lower risk

yulelogc · 10/01/2021 22:30

@DirtyDancing

I concur! I’m getting cross that everyone thinks it’s someone else’s problem.. “I was at the beach today and there were people everywhere” huffs.

Erm you were at the beach too.. you’re part of the problem. Go the f home!

This. Absolutely. I went to the supermarket the other day, which is allowed, walked across the car park only to hear one woman say to another "ugh there's so many people out and about, what part of stay home dont people get" Erm, you're out and about?! You are here adding to the people already here? 🙄
RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 10/01/2021 22:32

It’s weird though

As i said personally I wouldn’t buy a coffee from a drive through or chain

But i took my husband to the beach on Wednesday specifically to buy a coffee from someone who has opened a kiosk as i thought I should support local business

Now i know that’s morally wrong I’ll try not to do it again (i had to throw half of it away as it turns out i cant walk and drink coffee at the same time)
