Why can't people just think of others!

Why can't people just follow the guidance and stay at home?
Seen it too much in the news about busy beaches, towns etc.
The sooner everyone does as they are told the quicker we will be out of this!
Trust me I'd love to take my family on an outing to the beach, could quite easily 'exercise' and go for a walk there but putting my family at risk is the last thing on my mind!
I'm protecting mine - please everyone protect yours too!

Because we have done. Since March last year. Lost jobs, businesses, socialisation all of it. People are done and quite rightly so. If I get called a granny murderer so be it. Governments across the UK have handled this like containing piss in a colander so can fuck off with their shite.

Sparklingbrook · 10/01/2021 21:37

As long as you are staying at home/local or whatever then there's not much more you can do. I am really happy poking about at home until I go back to work next week-I quite enjoy it.

The more Boris says 'Stay at Home' the more people stamp their feet and say 'SHAN'T!' but that's up to them and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

PurpleDaisies · 10/01/2021 21:38

I'm trying to protect others and express does a day out at the beach really justify it???

Playing Devil’s advocate, a day at the beach can be very low risk indeed. We didn’t get massive spikes in the summer after everyone flocked to the seaside.

Popping to see you friend for a coffee in their house is more likely to be where you catch covid than on a breezy beach where you’re staying a good distance from others.

PurpleDaisies · 10/01/2021 21:39

I’m not saying people should drive a long way to the beach, big if it’s local to you it’s a very low risk activity.

HermannlovesPauline · 10/01/2021 21:40

Maybe the people on the beach were local?

Is this the headline from the daily fail earlier today? You want to take anything you read in that with a huge pinch of salt. They deliberately photograph groups to make them look close together

lljkk · 10/01/2021 21:41

um.. you can turn this around.

Why can't people understand that...

Some people only manage their mental health well by getting out a lot

Some people don't cook or can't cook -- they need hot take aways to get any decent hot food

Some people have hidden vulnerabilities & need in person support

As currently designed the control measures are completely unsustainable, but they are slightly more sustainable and easy to mostly comply with if people can do little things like meet a friend for a walk or drive 5 miles to walk somewhere different or visit a public toilet or get a hot coffee...

TheRealHousewife · 10/01/2021 21:45

@gooseygander88 in answer to your question ... because a lot of people are arrogant and think the rules don’t apply to them. 5 out of 6 dwellings where I live continue to have visitors (arriving in cars), go out themselves multiple times a day in their cars, in each other’s houses etc.

I have no words other than they are adding to the problem.

We all have a responsibility to follow the rules but where I live, sadly, I’m in the minority.

hamstersarse · 10/01/2021 21:46

@LazyFace

I've been told: 'it's just a flu' 'it's blown out of proportion'.
As Chris Whitty has said repeatedly, this is a mild disease for the majority of the population. Not even as bad as a flu for most people
Emeeno1 · 10/01/2021 21:49

Let's see, how much are you thinking of others with your post?

Using emotive language and punctuation increases anxiety.
Imploring people to stay home makes people feel trapped and hopeless.
Acting as if the sky is falling installs fear and panic.

I am not sure you are following the advice you are asking of others.

Flowersinthewindowstill · 10/01/2021 21:50

Because people can only be selfless for so long. I think that's the God's to honest truth. I appreciate this isn't the situation for everyone, but some people have lost their livelihoods, businesses, homes, reason for being. If you asked the average person if they'd be happy to be on the street/not be able to feed their family/not see a loved one for X amount of time to save someone they've never met, most would say no.

TheRealHousewife · 10/01/2021 21:52

4 out of the 5 are retirees so job losses etc don’t affect them; and the other house work in health. Yes really!

wanderings · 10/01/2021 21:52

This. In spades. And we were told:
"We can turn this virus around in twelve weeks."
"Normal by September."
"Normalish by Christmas."
"It would be inhumane to cancel Christmas."
"Schools are safe."
Now Saint Boris is stringing us out until Easter, and what will it be then? "Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease be patient, just six more months...."

I agree, I thought the same when I read it.

The media have not helped at all with their inflammatory reporting.

They are pushing and pushing for tighter restrictions and won’t rest until they happen, then as soon as they do, they’ll be pushing for everything to open up again.

To contrast they have been showing celebrities on holiday and people not distancing all summer, and banging on about Christmas.

Stripesnomore · 10/01/2021 21:56

The government obviously doesn’t want people to stay home or they would have closed non essential retail.

Of course towns are busy as the shops are open for orders.

2020canfuckitself · 10/01/2021 22:00

So today I worked my non-essential job at a chain coffee drive-thru, the amount of families coming through for a treat just angered me.

I would love to be at home safe with my family but unfortunately I have to serve coffee to selfish, entitled people who will not follow the rules!

Stripesnomore · 10/01/2021 22:03

Yes 2020. It is ludicrous.

PurpleDaisies · 10/01/2021 22:04

What is the risk from getting a drive through coffee?

Those businesses should have been closed by the government if they didn’t want people to use them. The food businesses around here are desperate for customers to keep using them.

Stripesnomore · 10/01/2021 22:05

The risk is to the number of staff who have to turn up at work to run the business.

mum2jakie · 10/01/2021 22:06

@2020canfuckitself realistically though, if people aren't coming and treating themselves to takeaway coffees, you're going to find yourself unemployed pretty quickly. Be careful what you wish for...

hamstersarse · 10/01/2021 22:07

Winter has made the ‘crowding’ worse btw. It’s dark by 4.30 so people only have a limited time to get some exercise

I don’t care though, just to be clear, I believe it is more unhealthy to stay in your house all day

Stripesnomore · 10/01/2021 22:09

If not being unemployed is the deciding factor, no businesses should be closed during a lockdown.

lljkk · 10/01/2021 22:10

Check this story about overcrowded local beaches and covid *fears.
Yes this is the picture that accompanied the story.
It's Flipping Freezing with northerly/easterly winds. The beach won't be any more crowded than this at any point this week.

*FEAR being the only actual story to be told.

Why can't people just think of others!
mum2jakie · 10/01/2021 22:11

I'd say a drive thru takeaway is a pretty low risk activity.

museumum · 10/01/2021 22:11

I’m going to assume you mean some really specific beach? Because this is our nearest beach. Unless the virus now blows hundreds of meters on the air there’s no risk here.

Why can't people just think of others!
HermannlovesPauline · 10/01/2021 22:12

@Watermelon999 Totally agree - the media have behaved appallingly as we all know they won’t sell papers/click bait advertising if they don’t stick to a doom and destruction narrative
