Absolutely ridiculous, I am actually quite scared of what is happening.

AldiIsla · 10/01/2021 09:40

Isn't she one of the protesting fruitloops?

Seasaltyhair · 10/01/2021 09:41

@trevorandsimon

What is she had the virus and then sat on the bench? The virus can stay live on objects. The next person sits there and picks up the virus and the next etc.
But that goes for every single door you push open, every single petrol, pin machine ect..

Your searching for answers to try and justify reasons why a women sitting on a bench alone could be given a fine

GerardWay123 · 10/01/2021 09:41

The so called protest was about 12 people. I know 1 of the ladies in question. She's definitely local and goes to the beach as do I (I'm walking my dog). Its fresh air, exercise and there's hardly anyone there unlike our supermarkets.

What, through her bum?
Balhammom · 10/01/2021 09:42

If you read the actual story, there is nothing ridiculous about it.

If the individual had just taken the advice the police offered, that would have been the end of the matter.

If you’re stupid enough to argue with the police when they’re trying to enforce some pretty sensible laws, you deserve everything coming your way.

movingonup20 · 10/01/2021 09:43

During the first lockdown we sat on a bench (we had both had suspected covid a couple of weeks prior, no tests then of course but energy was a bit lower than normal and dp needed to rest) pcso asked how long we would be I said 2-3 mins just more tired than normal she said ok and left us, we moved on shortly afterwards. I'm guessing the lady here had a different reaction!

Seasaltyhair · 10/01/2021 09:44

@Goodbye2020Hello2021

Exactly this Laurie

She will have been arrested for squaring up to the police when spoken to.
Not for ‘sitting on a bench’

How do you know that?

What constitutes as ‘squaring up’?

The police sit back and watch illegal raves but then fine a lone woman sitting in a bench.

I’m starting to wonder if there is a quota set each day for passing out fines.

Treatscatscrave · 10/01/2021 09:44

Balhammom
You need to understand that despotic regimes always start with the public asking the state for more restrictions on their freedoms.
And it's often a gradual thing.
A year ago, the reaction for sitting on a park and being arrested would be outrageous- it still IS for the UN brainwashed.

You need to brush up on your history. Don't go crying when you are prevented from doing things which are humane like visiting a dying relative, you asked for it.

tinkerbell2021 · 10/01/2021 09:44

I'm near Whitlingham and have heard about the police being there and checking IDs for addresses.

MynephewR · 10/01/2021 09:47

Parking your backside on park bench in the middle of a pandemic isn’t necessary.
Which bit of protect the nhs and save lives dont people get.

JFC what is the world coming to? You do realise you're being ridiculous right? 😂

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 10/01/2021 09:47

They will have politely reminded her of the current rules and asked her to move, with a much less polite response, several times before it came to handcuffs.

MaxNormal · 10/01/2021 09:49

Might as well burn all the benches. Can't put that sort of temptation in people's way.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 10/01/2021 09:49

However, I think sitting alone on a bench to get vitamin d and for mental health - so long as you are not clogging up the pathway or cracking open the Blue WKD with a bunch of 15 of your closest mates, should be permissable.

Cattitudes · 10/01/2021 09:50

How do they know she isn't disabled? Dd sat on a (very) remote bench in the middle of our walk as otherwise she couldn't walk back again. Should she exercise less in case she hurts herself (due to disability) and has to sit down again?

Lastbonestanding · 10/01/2021 09:52

If her sitting on the outdoor bench by herself was so dangerous surely her being touched, manhandled and surrounded by police officers was even more so. They presumably them brought her indoors. The world is going mad.

Poppingnostopping · 10/01/2021 09:53

So far all I've noticed is the people all fined and in the papers are all women.

Seems the police don't go around looking for large tough looking men to engage with in relation to covid laws.

Just a first impression, let's see how it plays out.

What LAW was she breaking?
RuleConfusion · 10/01/2021 09:54

It’s absolutely disgraceful. I was told to go home or told to provide my personal details when surrounded by 3 police officers for doing something you are legally allowed to do I would have declined too. I would be perfectly polite about it, which we have no idea whether this woman was or not.

Genuinely the stupidity of the people applauding this is astounding.

lljkk · 10/01/2021 09:55

@MegBusset:

It was on Facebook, you may be able to see this.
Apols, the gossip is that 4-5 miles (not 3) is the threshold when Norfolk police fine people. I'm not blaming police: they've been told to police this hard. They should have been given very clear rules repeated to all of us clearly.

My cars haven't moved in 11 & 15 days. It's very cold so there is danger batteries will go flat; would be nice to have option of working cars on our drive. I'll drive somewhere unnecessarily tomorrow (on super icy roads, as part of keyworker errand) for half an hour to make sure the battery gets some recharge. I would drive today to beach to walk with a friend, but dare not, now. Pffft.

Bollss · 10/01/2021 09:57
@Treatscatscrave

I want harsher restrictions and know exactly what I’m asking for.

If you’re genuinely too stupid to appreciate the difference between a despotic regime and a major public heath emergency then you are there problem here.
You're calling other people stupid but think someone sitting alone on a bench is contributing to a public health emergency. Glass houses. Stones.

Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 09:58

Bloody hell. What is wrong with people.

Nonamealoud · 10/01/2021 10:00

This

Arobase · 10/01/2021 10:00

@SquirtleSquad

She was arrested for failing to provide her details when officers attempted to issue a fine. This is very local to me and has been explained time and time again.
You don't have to provide your details unless the police have lawful cause to demand them. On the face of it it's not at all clear that they had lawful cause.
