Assistant Chief Constable Mark Callaghan said: "We believe this video was planned, stage-managed and recorded by members of the protest group

To quote Mandy Rice Davies, "Well he would say that, wouldn't he?"

To be clear I don't know whether it was planned and stage managed or it wasn't, but then clearly neither does ACC Callaghan - otherwise he's unlikely to have said "we believe" ...

itsgettingweird · 10/01/2021 20:27

I guess the BLM protests had no effect the same way the masses flocking to the beach didnt?

Seasonal virus which doesn't live long in uv.

This strain is thought to transmit better outdoors and we know covid spreads better in cold anyway. So of course sometimes people's actions will be less acceptable because of circumstance rather than type of action.

It was staged and planned

these networks of protesters pull similar stunts all the time

one give away

the "choose your side!" chant targeted at the cops when the park bench woman was arrested

was familair to me from other conspiracy themed events, such as this anti-mask, Qanon, anti-lockdown, anti-vaxx themed march in September

The provoking of the cops and then the filming response alongside proclamations of injustice and victimhood is standard, mundane, everyday business for this network of protestors IME

They stage events like this all the time

The flurry of internet posts all claiming that we are living in a police state are also part and parcel of it

This kind of misinformation campaign, using a pandemic to create divisions and dischord within society happened back in the late C20 with HIV / AIDS as this excellent documentary demonstrates

I was working in the NHS at the time in health promotion and HIV prevention and so many things resonate with the current situation

Anyone with a curious, analytical mind will enjoy the video, it is highly relevant to our current situation

hoodathunkit · 10/01/2021 20:36

It is degraded in UV and preserved in cold, dark conditions, which is why it has spread in meat processing facilities and is spreading fast in the winter

Plus we now have a new, much more contageous variant

hoodathunkit · 10/01/2021 20:46

It really isn't bless you.

I sometimes wonder whether there is any point in arguing with people who are utterly cluless about this.

The evidence is not telling us that at all.

What evidence?

All the evidence I have read talks about variables and the risk of fomite transmission. One academic paper was highly critical of a paper demonstrating high rates of fomite contamination over long periods because the fomites were kept in a cold, dark lab where the virus would stay active for longer periods.

Given that the winter is cold and dark it makes sene that winter is a more dangerous time, then we have the new variant

I do worry about people who must go through life basically terrified of everything

I am mostly terrified by people's ignorance, selfishness and inability to understand basic, simple facts.

The virus that is the most scary to me is the pandemic of insanity and bullshit that seems to have infected people all over the world

I'm giving up posting here for tonight

A few reasonable posters are no competition for a troll farm and I'd like to enjoy my evening for a bit :)

I didn't know it was preserved in cold. I knew it degraded in UV and liked the cold.

I guess these unseasonal freezing temps we've had for long periods this winter won't be helping then alongside this new strain?

JinglingHellsBells · 10/01/2021 22:04

@MercyBooth I may be late to the party but it's come to light that this incident (woman on bench) was a staged event by anti-lockdown groups.

They filmed it all and she 'acted' the part- arguing with the police.

It was a set-up.

Topseyt · 10/01/2021 22:54
@Topseyt sounds like you are the one spreading hysteria ffs
Nope. Not me. I'm at home most of the time except for a weekly trip to the supermarket and a walk most (not every) day for exercise in rural areas where I usually meet nobody. I'm OK with that, thanks.

IBCS · 10/01/2021 23:07

Stage managed ! Surely not.

Fuck me how sad must your life be to do that.

DdraigGoch · 10/01/2021 23:32

@ThatIsNotMyUsername

You play the game ‘oh is that right officer?’ ‘I didn't know I couldn’t sit here and have a rest’ ‘oh well I’ll be in my way’ thanks officer - I guess you will be having a word with that gang of teens over there drinking cider and smoking weed?’

I saw a video of a police officer turning up to a flat in Scotland (someone must’ve called to say they were breaking lockdown) and asking who was in the house (woman, partner and two kids). The woman was pretty confrontational (full Mary Doll) and the officer started getting prickly and pissed off. She was yelling, he was gruffing and the upshot was the teenage daughter (who was just out of hospital) had a seizure (caused by the rumpus most likely).

Had the mum gone
‘Yes officer? No it’s just me, my partner and the two kids - girl just out of the hospital. Did someone say we were having a party or something? How daft - she’s just out of the Royal... mask up and have a look of you don’t believe me...’

So people really think that getting angry, confrontational and pissy and the police will say ‘sorry miss, apologies, I’ll be on my way’?

This. How many people get stopped by the police for something trivial (faulty light or "have you seen this person"), get confrontational and end up in custody? I do revenue enforcement on public transport. When someone kicks off following a simple request ("tickets please" etc.), it usually turns out that they were on recall/had a CBO/wanted on a warrant. If they had kept their head down, they'd be free as a bird.
DdraigGoch · 10/01/2021 23:37

I'd be fairly passed off if the plod turned up at my door to check who was in my house because of Covid

Some of you need counselling if you think that's ok
Or maybe you just need some anger management and to recognise that there is a pandemic on and that the police have an important job to do.

Imagine what people today would be like in WWII. "Can I see your identity papers?"
"You can't do that, I know my rights!"
BANG

DdraigGoch · 10/01/2021 23:52
"I don't believe in this virus"

Well I don't believe in the laws of physics but that doesn't make cycling uphill any easier.

JinglingHellsBells · 11/01/2021 07:54

@IBCS

Stage managed ! Surely not.

Yes, it was. It's in the 'quality news' rather than the Mail.

She was a 'plant' by anti-lockdown protesters. THEY took all the photos.

It was a set-up and the police obviously reacted to her behaviour (not the fact she was on a bench.)

She's standing up to make it look as if she was handcuffed when all she had was her arms behind her back.

PinkyParrot · 11/01/2021 08:31

Gawd, the police must have the patience of a saint - irritating set ups just to make them look bad. No doubt the film is cut to make it in the whiner's favour.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 11/01/2021 08:45

@Soubriquet so she was a protestor. Makes sense now.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 11/01/2021 11:11

There are still far too many posters on here though that would happily see people arrested for simply sitting on a bench

She was not simply sitting in a bench though. She had travelled outside the area to take part in a protest. She has been causing trouble in the Town earlier and than staged this to make the Police seem like big bad boys.
So many people lacking in comprehension skills or maybe just believing what they want to believe to suit their agenda.

JinglingHellsBells · 11/01/2021 12:31

the full story is now on the front page (online) of the Mail.

The woman doesn't believe in the virus.

She was protesting.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/01/2021 12:40

I've been very clear that I don't know one way or the other what the woman's motivation was, but how odd that the dreaded Daily Mail is said to an utterly unreliable rag, not fit even for wiping backsides ...

Except when it suits

trulydelicious · 11/01/2021 13:01

@hoodathunkit

The flurry of internet posts all claiming that we are living in a police state are also part and parcel of it

The number of posters who have been stealthily instigating trouble and discontent against the authorities (on this and other MN treads) is alarming TBH
