@alltheadrenalin

Not sure what it is about STAY AT HOME some people don’t get.

^^ people are allowed out to exercise. I'll argue all day long for people to take care of their mental health. Hill I'm prepared to die on.

And people have the right to protest.
ginghamstarfish · 10/01/2021 16:09

Some PPs are saying they are 'scared' about the police actions etc, comparing the UK to totalitarian states. I'm scared of getting Covid because of the actions of the many, many idiots who just cannot see how serious this is. If you've got more than two brain cells how can you fail to see it?

Covidcovid · 10/01/2021 16:12

Yeah I’ve watched the videos of both women being arrested (pretty much next to each other at the same time). The first one is blathering on at the start to the police about how she doesn’t believe in the virus. So yes, I’d agree it does look a bit damming that she was part of a covid denier protest.

Whether that can be proved or not remains to be seen. She may dispute the ticket saying she was there for a walk and needed a minute rest and had done nothing wrong...

Lovemusic33 · 10/01/2021 16:12

Women are not being targeted, if you read the police statement men were arrested too, it just so happens that the video shown was a woman 🤔.

Yes, people can exercise but she wasn’t was she? She had driven 30 miles to take part in a protest, sat on a bench drinking a coffee is not exercising.

Covidcovid · 10/01/2021 16:17

Also and I’m not sure how true this is though have previously googled and did find some stuff which seems to back it up.

I know previously it’s true that you can not be arrested for refusing to give your details to the police. You’re under no obligation to do so unless I think you’ve been arrested or maybe suspected of a crime. But I’ve read that buried in the Covid regulations it’s now an offence not to give your details if asked by a police officer.

I guess certainly in this case they suspected her of breaking the law by not having a legitimate reason for being outside (she was at a protest). So in that case I guess she is obligated to provide her details?

Covidcovid · 10/01/2021 16:18

And people have the right to protest

I’m fairly sure that’s no longer the case and is covered by covid regulations.

Runnerduck34 · 10/01/2021 16:20

I thought in this lockdown ,unlike the first one, you are allowed to sit on a bench???
FFS don't the police have anything better to do , investigating unsolved murders, rape cases, county lines/ drugs pushing etc would be a much better use of police time than harassing a women for sitting on a bench by herself. Its scary that people think the police should be doing this.

Read the thread, she wasn’t just sitting on a bench, she was a part of a protest and had travelled from another area to take part.
lockeddownandcrazy · 10/01/2021 16:25

" no basis to act"

You don't know that - you were not there.

You don't actually know what the offence was!

littlepattilou · 10/01/2021 16:25

@LaurieFairyCake

She wasn't arrested for 'sitting on a bench' Hmm

She was sitting on the bench

Told/advised to go home

She refused/argued with the officers

THEN she was arrested

This.

This kind of faux outrage and sensationalism really pisses me off.

Me and my DH went for a walk to the local canal (20 mins walk) yesterday, and sat on a bench there for 20 mins for a rest, and a drink of water.

Got back off the bench and walked towards the gate that takes us off the canal path, and a WPC was walking past, and smiled and said hello to us.

It's highly unlikely that the police would arrest someone for sitting on a bench. (Unless it was 300 miles from their home.) Grin

Gingernaut · 10/01/2021 16:28

In Malaysia, the lockdown was so strict, that you could only go out to your nearest shop.

For one friend's child, that meant going to a shop within her apartment building and not going outdoors for months.

If we had been this strict right from the very beginning, we would have been all over this virus.

itsgettingweird · 10/01/2021 16:28

@Joeblack066

Good. She was shouting that she doesn’t believe the virus is real, and breaking the rules. Meanwhile NHS staff, including my son and his gf, go out every day risking their lives.
Maybe they could be the ones to present her her twat badge WinkGrin

Yes and we'd probably all be much unhealthier for it.
Funneth · 10/01/2021 16:30

Way way way too many of you seem to believe that if people simply behaved in a different way we'd have no virus. Erm, pretty sure the virus has spent billions of years evolving to be contagious, just a thought. Oh and all of you are going to get covid, either the real version or an inactivated version in a vaccine. And then you're going to get it again and again for the rest of your lives because that's how viruses work ye daft tarts yaaaaaa. No amount of bench hating gonna stop that I'm afraid.

itsgettingweird · 10/01/2021 16:30

There is some guidance. And the organises can get fined for instigating a mass gathering.

Piers Corbyn has had a few 10k fines I think? Definitely at least 1.

They were dispersing a protest of which this woman was part of.

You know ...... keeping the peace.

That kinda is their job Wink

Tartyflette · 10/01/2021 16:37

With regards to outdoor exercise I am seriously concerned (and confused) about what i can and cannot do. What is 'guidance' and what is the law?
I'm not very mobile at the moment following a knee injury which is taking a long while to heal. I should be walking more, although it's painful. But today I went out for a walk for exercise and had to sit down on a bench and rest it for a while on the way back.
I was able to get up and resume my walk after about 10 minutes, so if a copper had told me to move on during that time and I couldn't do so immediately would i be risking a fine or arrest? In addition I would definitely not be happy giving my details to the police in such a situation where i do not believe i am committing any crime.
Who knows what they will do with the info - keep it on file for as long as they want ?

poshme · 10/01/2021 16:39

Police statement.

This was a set up.

She was part of a protest.

iquitelikenormalityafterall · 10/01/2021 16:42

Malaysia are still having lockdowns and are not all over this virus. People should be allowed to sit on a bench. If she travelled a long way that’s a different story. Common sense has been completely lost?!

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 10/01/2021 16:42

So essentially an aggrieved individual making a stage managed point and provoking the police.
Then Loading it on sm with faux naïveté ohh look what the bad police did

hoodathunkit · 10/01/2021 16:44

Way way way too many of you seem to believe that if people simply behaved in a different way we'd have no virus.

It is about reducing the risk as much as possible, not getting rid of the virus completely, although that would be lovely if possible.

Erm, pretty sure the virus has spent billions of years evolving to be contagious, just a thought.

You could say the same thing about everything that has evolved. The virus is a novel virus and has evolved very recently - this is why we have little or no immunity to it and whay it has caused a pandemic

Oh and all of you are going to get covid, either the real version or an inactivated version in a vaccine

The vaccines do not contain the coronavirus that causes covid disease.

They contain a tiny section of the coronavirus RNA inside a harmless lipid cell or cell of a benign, completely different virus. The RNA is the code that instructs the cell to create the protien spike that the coronavirus uses to penetrate and hijack human cells, causing catastrophic disease in some people.

After vaccination the human immune system engages with the novel, benign cell and learns to recognise the protien spike so that when it encouters the real coronavirus is is primed to attack the protien spikes.

So you are wrong that the virus is an inactivated version . It is not. It is a completely different virus or even a lipid cell with harmless protien spikes on the outside.

And then you're going to get it again and again for the rest of your lives because that's how viruses work ye daft tarts yaaaaaa. No amount of bench hating gonna stop that I'm afraid.

There are some very helpful videos on youtube that explain basic issues around virology and vaccinations that I could share - you might find them helpful :)

hoodathunkit · 10/01/2021 16:47

an easy to understand video re the vaccines here

Of course not. If the police were to turn up and ask you why you were sitting there, you would tell them what you’ve just told us. About your knee and exercise and having a rest and they would smile and wish you a good day. They are not scouring the streets for innocent pedestrians to victimise. Also they are people and most of them are perfectly pleasant people.

Funneth · 10/01/2021 16:51

Smart you aren't ya? Except the part where the virus didn't totally evolve recently it mutated to be able to infect human cells. All any virus is is rogue protein, it's not alive and all any vaccine tries to do is produce an immune response to an inactivated version of it. Kind of off topic to talk about exactly which part of it is involved in which partcular vaccine, my point still stands that everyone is getting it in one way or another and they should start getting use to that fact before they start taking basic rights away from people living their own lives. Most of them are probably less worried about deaths and more worried about the consequentially falling house prices which will be happening soon.
WiseOwlRelaxing · 10/01/2021 16:58

completely ridiculous and the police should be careful because people will stop obeying any rules if they conclude that the rules are ridiculous.
