If there was a guarantee life would get back to normal

Would they pin people down? Isn’t that rape?

I’m pregnant and then I’ll be breastfeeding so for now, it’s a no from me. Is a vaccinator really going to assault a pregnant woman?

Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 13:25

Having the vaccine doesn’t mean you can’t spread it. You’ll still have to social distance and get tested where needed.

peak2021 · 10/01/2021 13:25

No, but I would support some places requiring it, and in particular that you need one in order to fly.

TitsOot4Xmas · 10/01/2021 13:26

Haven’t RTFT, but it can’t be. It’s a non-starter, unless the govt decides to scrap the Equality Act.

newstart1234 · 10/01/2021 13:27

No way. Informed consent is vital.

SpnBaby1967 · 10/01/2021 13:28

No, I still have autonomy over my own body........even during a pandemic.

I'm disgusted by antivaxxers.

Agreeing vaccines are a good idea, and being forced to have one are two different issues

Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 13:33

Oh and I had my flu jab and whooping cough vaccine when pregnant so I’m clearly not anti vaccines.

MadameBlobby · 10/01/2021 13:33

ould they pin people down? Isn’t that rape?

Erm, no. Of course it isn’t rape!

I don’t think anyone will be pinned down. But I think there will be severe restrictions on the wilfully unvaccinated being able to live their lives so it will be as good as de facto compulsory. Exemptions for medical reasons such as pregnancy, BF, medical conditions which mean it’s contra indicated. People who bleat about their bodily autonomy and think they are too special to do their bit will be free to not have it, but will face restrictions on things like work, travel etc. People who think this can’t or won’t happen are deluded. This country is on its knees. If people think the government are going to tolerate all this shite for longer than necessary due to people being precious about tie vaccine they are deluded.

Garbage
TitsOot4Xmas · 10/01/2021 13:37

Okay. Prove me wrong.

(I’ve been discussing whether we can make it mandatory for NHS staff for the past 6 weeks with various lawyers, but can’t wait to hear your evidence.)

thepeopleversuswork · 10/01/2021 13:38

No.

Much as I think antivaxxers are scum and much as I would trample over my own family to get one..

  1. Crosses a dangerous ethical line when governments force citizens to do things to their own bodies.
  2. Plays massively into the hands of the aforesaid antivaxxers by giving them a legitimate reason to cry government control.
  3. Probably legally and logistically unenforceable.
  4. There are some people who stop short of being antivaxxers but have legitimate anxiety about the vaccine. Forcing scared people to do stuff isn’t a good look for a government.
Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 13:38

But you still have to social distance with the vaccine. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lockheart · 10/01/2021 13:40

Mandatory no.

Mandatory in order to be able to travel internationally, attend school, work in certain situations e.g hospitals or care homes? Possibly, if it's proved necessary.

Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 13:41

I’m not sure there is the capacity or money to vaccinate 68 million people every 6 months forever.

Shaniac · 10/01/2021 13:45

Fuck no. So you want everyones bodily autonomy taken away? So then what next, people have to submit themselves for medical testing when the gov requires they dont have a choice? Forced abortion? Forced sterilisation? Forced euthanasia? Where do you draw the line?

Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 13:46

Oh I think quite a few Mumsnetters support forced abortion for pregnancy during a pandemic.

Sparklingbrook · 10/01/2021 13:47

OP hasn't returned to the thread I notice...

annevonkleve · 10/01/2021 13:47

I can't see why you would need it to be mandatory if it only has an effect on the person who receives it. Then you just need it yourself to protect yourself.

If it actually stops transmission there is more of an argument, but no other vaccine is mandatory so why this one?

boobot1 · 10/01/2021 13:58

@10milewalk

No, we are treading very dangerous ground if we start taking choices away from people, that's not a country I would want to live in.
I completely agree, and as others have said, it only fuels anti -vax sentiment.

The other thing is, we have no way of knowing where that would lead. Governments should NEVER have the right to say what is put in your body.

WhyDoesItAlwaysRainMe · 10/01/2021 13:59

No. Even though I will be having it, I don't think it should be mandatory

reformedcharacters · 10/01/2021 14:06

Also, if the covid vaccine only prevents the recipient from becoming seriously unwell then what benefit would there be in mandatory vaccination for the protection of others or even restrictions on people who don’t want the vaccine?

riddles26 · 10/01/2021 14:10

Absolutely not. I am completely pro-vaccination and will be having mine in the next couple of days but we all have a right to decide what goes in our body

OppsUpsSide · 10/01/2021 14:11

No

Timbucktime · 10/01/2021 14:12

Absolutely not
At the end of the day it’s your body and you have the right to say what goes into it.
If that right is taken away then you are in seriously dangerous territory.

AnneElliott · 10/01/2021 14:37

Yes for frontline health and social care - as they are working with vulnerable people.

When working in forensics we had to have Hep A and B injections and this was non negotiable if you wanted the job. I don't see why this is different.

Other people not working in these professions then no. And of course if medics advise against having it to en those people shouldn't be discriminated against.
