If there was a guarantee life would get back to normal

Also there are countries where you have to have certain vaccines to enter, why should this be any different? I'm sure they will make it a condition of travel once they've rolled it out to everyone.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/01/2021 21:38

No. Bodily autonomy is important to uphold.

As a low risk demographic and lifestyle I'm not exactly elbowing people out of the way to have the vaccine, and by the time I am offered it, I probably will feel satisfied that the benefits outweigh the risks.
Better to have it by consent than coercion.

Russellbrandshair · 09/01/2021 21:38

No. The second you remove consent and bodily autonomy you are going down a very slippery slope to eugenics

Changemaname1 · 09/01/2021 21:39

No and I say that as someone who is desperate for some normality (as am sure most are to be fair )

I will be having it , I think everyone who is able to should but I support the right to chose

tigger1001 · 09/01/2021 21:39

I will be getting the vaccine when it's my turn, and strongly believe in vaccines generally, but strongly disagree with compulsory vaccinations.

Medical procedures, including vaccines need to be by consent. Otherwise it's a slippery slope.

And if the take up was low in a high risk group and they had a fair chance to access it, then no lockdowns. Once the majority have been offered the vaccine we need to lift them and try to get back to some normality. There will always be a portion of society not vaccinated due not being able to get the vaccine etc

lunalucie · 09/01/2021 21:39

No. Absolutely not. Once we go down this road there's no going back, what next? We are lucky enough to live in a society where we have the freedom of choice, so many people are not in this position and would give anything to be rather than living in a dictatorship.

Kljnmw3459 · 09/01/2021 21:39

No.
I'd like a campaign to dispel any rumours or clear any misinformation though.

MumOfPsuedoAdult · 09/01/2021 21:40

No

Kljnmw3459 · 09/01/2021 21:40

I think vaccines are important in general but I don't want them to be mandatory.

Theunamedcat · 09/01/2021 21:40

@TransplantedScouser

For those who say no....

If enough people don’t take it should we live in lockdown indefinitely to protect society?

No if people choose to not be protected then its their risk to take we must go back to normal or as near normal as possible
GingerBeverage · 09/01/2021 21:42

No, but I think in certain settings other people have a right to know who has opted out so they can make their own decisions based on that information.

HeadIsFucked · 09/01/2021 21:43

Nope. We will have it if offered. And are up to date on all vaccines we ca get. But still no.

Russellbrandshair · 09/01/2021 21:44

@GingerBeverage

No, but I think in certain settings other people have a right to know who has opted out so they can make their own decisions based on that information.
How can you possibly share private medical information with other people without breaching confidentiality and gdpr?

If someone has had the vaccine it shouldn’t matter if they mix with people who haven’t. By the way- people who have been vaccinated can still pass it on to others so what’s the point of them knowing about others status?

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 09/01/2021 21:46

No. Natural selection.

Anyone stupid enough to believe to conspiracy theories over science. We can do without them in this world.

20CMB21 · 09/01/2021 21:48

No. We have already given up enough freedom.

I am in favour of vaccination, btw, in order to escape from this particular circle of Hell as quickly as possible.

GarlicSoup · 09/01/2021 21:50

No don’t be ridiculous

bumbleymummy · 09/01/2021 21:50

No. Why would we? The more vulnerable are being offered the vaccine first but it will be offered to all groups eventually. If people choose not to have it and take their chances with the disease then why would live in lockdown to protect society?
notevenat20 · 09/01/2021 21:52

It can't literally be mandatory but it could be that lots of places require a certificate which would make it effectively mandatory for most people.

Drowninginwashing · 09/01/2021 21:56

I am very pro vaccines and have very little time for anti vaxxers, they are truly more dangerous than covid in my opinion. They should be severely limited in their access to public platforms, and there should be much more proactive education of the populace in science and critical thinking, to stop people falling down that rabbit hole. In addition I believe it is the right of other countries, or firms or whatever to refuse access to those who are not vaccinated (with important exemptions for people who cannot safely have it).

But no, it shouldn't be compulsory, and neither should access to medical or other essential services be dependent on being vaccinated. I still believe in body autonomy despite all I have said above!

Fridget · 09/01/2021 21:56

If people choose not to have it and take their chances with the disease then why would live in lockdown to protect society?

I don’t want it to be mandatory, but I can see the point being made. If not enough vulnerable people take it, and we lift restrictions, then we risk the NHS being overwhelmed again. Unless we refuse Covid treatment to anybody who doesn’t have the jab when eligible, but I don’t want to see that happen either.

Thankfully I think it’s academic because I think enough people will have it.

hedgehogger1 · 09/01/2021 22:00

Normally not. But if large numbers aren't being vaccinated it may increase the chance of news strains developing that aren't prevented by the vaccine. So I'd say a tentative yes, as this thing seems to mutate quite readily

reformedcharacters · 09/01/2021 22:01

No, under no circumstances whatsoever should any vaccine be compulsory (I’m not anti vax)

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 09/01/2021 22:02

No.

It depends what you mean by mandatory though. Holding people down to jab them without consent, no.

Restricting the lives of those who choose not to have it - in terms of travel, school attendance, entry to shops etc - yes.

lookingsusbro · 09/01/2021 22:04

No. I can't stand anti vaxxers but no one should be forced to have any vaccine or medical procedure against their will no matter how stupid their reasoning is.

Imo it would be a slippery slope to enforce the covid vaccine vaccine. First enforce one vaccine "for the greater good" and to end lockdown, great idea, but then where does it stop? Once people are used to the idea of mandatory vaccination how long till we have mandatory contraceptives for teens or unmarried women? Or forced sterilisation once you have two children or if you have genetic conditions.

No medical procedure or intervention should be forced on anyone with the capacity to make such decisions without their consent under any circumstances.

PinkFondantFancy · 09/01/2021 22:04

That's the same as mandatory Aros
