Have had their vaccinations today, apparently at home in Windsor Castle.

OP posts:
UntamedWisteria · 09/01/2021 16:52

I'm surprised they had to wait so long.

My parents who are younger than them both had theirs before Christmas.

MintyMabel · 09/01/2021 16:52

It's got to be kept at -75C but there is a slight leeway and maybe Windsor C has very special fridges just for this!

No, Windsor doesn’t have a -75 degree freezer just in case a vaccine is required in a global pandemic.

Calmandmeasured1 · 09/01/2021 16:53

Good news. Hopefully it sends a message to some who were worried about it.
This.

MrsMiaWallis · 09/01/2021 16:53

Good, my parents have now had two doses of the Pfizer vaccine. Delighted to hear the queen has hers too.

MintyMabel · 09/01/2021 16:53

Can you imagine the furore if they had been first? There would have been the kind of froth the OP was clearly looking for with this thread.

Bvop · 09/01/2021 16:55

This has cheered me up on an otherwise gloomy day. Good for them.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 09/01/2021 16:56

My step nan had her second dose yesterday

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 09/01/2021 16:57

If its good enough for the queen then be good enough for me when its my turn

JinglingHellsBells · 09/01/2021 16:59

There are some 90+ year olds who have not had theirs yet, as home visits come after all the others have been done, using the Oxford vaccine.

There are numerous examples online of older people waiting for their vaccination.

Ohdeariedear · 09/01/2021 16:59

Excellent and I’m glad they’ve made it public.

MajesticWhine · 09/01/2021 17:00

The Pfizer vaccine can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days after being thawed.

UntamedWisteria · 09/01/2021 17:00

MintyMabel I didn't say they should have been first. But my parents who are 'only' 82 and 85 had their 2nd dose of the vaccine this week. I guess it varies depending where you live in the country.

Pinkcadillac · 09/01/2021 17:01

@JinglingHellsBells

It can be transported, or how else would anyone get it?

It's got to be kept at -75C but there is a slight leeway and maybe Windsor C has very special fridges just for this! Or a refrigerated special delivery vehicle drove it right to their front door.

I believe you can keep it in a normal freezer for a couple of days. Then it must be used or thrown away
BlueBaubles12 · 09/01/2021 17:02

Brill! Big up Liz and Phil!!!!!

Gwenhwyfar · 09/01/2021 17:03

" I love the Queen, she is ace "

Do you know her? And if not, how can you love someone you don't know?

EagleFlight · 09/01/2021 17:03

@UntamedWisteria

My parents who are younger than them both had theirs before Christmas.

I imagine your parents went to a clinic for it whereas HMQ and PP had theirs at home and will have to needed to wait for the Oxford vaccine (or another one without transportation and storage issues) for that reason.
avocadoinasidecar · 09/01/2021 17:03

@Sparklingbrook

What are we supposed to say?
I think there is supposed to be much wailing and gnashing of teeth alongside pleas for a referendum on becoming a republic. After all the last referendum went ever so well and some rash promises on the side of fancy buses would detract from the current mess nicely.
rwalker · 09/01/2021 17:04

and so have 1000's of other people there age

@Sarahandduck18
at a complete loss at the vileness of your comment

catatecheese · 09/01/2021 17:04

we are doing them at home from Monday around here. So Sounds right they are top priority and count as housebound ( he is almost 100).

Sparklingbrook · 09/01/2021 17:07

Ah right @avocadoinasidecar, I was unsure whether we had to get all het up about the fact they had the jab or they had it at Windsor Castle because I don't want to waste energy on the wrong reason or anything.

ChronicallyCurious · 09/01/2021 17:07

I’ve seen lots of people moaning about this on Twitter? Their in their 90s FGS! My friends Grandma is due her second one soon and she’s 81 and in good health (as good as an 80 year old can be). Philip looks like he’s dying!

Figgygal · 09/01/2021 17:10

Good to hear it
Not sure why they’ve taken so long
80 yo fil just had his second jab yesterday

I think that there is a window of 90 hours from the batch being removed from the deep freeze (and placed in a normal fridge) until they are 'off'. When there's a few thousand in a normal delivery obviously every second counts. Presumably though, they had the Oxford vaccine which isn't so fickle.
