How many tests have you or your young DC had?

I don't know if other people just aren't bothering or I am over reacting.

Dc1 and me, both coughing at the start of the pandemic. I was very breathless. Both tested negative.
Dc1 minor cough 1 day, raging temp the next. Tested. Negative.
Dc2 sent home from pre school with upset tummy. Negative.
Dc1 minor operation so both of us tested. Negative.
Dc1 and me again, both coughing a lot, was sure it would be positive. It wasnt.
Dc 1 temperature today . And headache, generally feeling unwell. Relative asking "do you need to get a test every time they have a temp then?" ExH says "if the temp persists, get a test"

I think, just get a test. It's a pita it means no contact with ExH. And no childcare bubble. No "break " but also no potentially spreading it!

Am I overreacting or others being blasé?

Lost count, we have isolated at least 7 times for one child or another prior to actually getting Covid recently, plus I was testing myself twice a week at work. I have always erred in the side of caution and tested.

Thankfully this approach meant that we didn't give Covid to my clinically vulnerable Dad for Christmas which would have likely been the end for him. DH was in hospital for a week with it and very unwell.

Artesia · 08/01/2021 21:36

3 kids (across 2 different schools), DH and 1- none of us tested at all

Helloyouthere · 08/01/2021 21:38

Me and one of my children have both had two tests. Both negative.

Hubby and other son havent had to have any tests yet.

weepingwillow22 · 08/01/2021 21:40

I have had 2 tests, 1 positive
DH has had 1 test, positive
DS2 has had 1 test, negative

AnaisNun · 08/01/2021 21:43

I’ve lost count- I think 7 or 8? All negative.

But we did have covid symptoms (I had back and chest pains, stomach upset, sore eyes, headache, fatigue and of course the cough- DS just had a cough) in early April, and my GP thinks I’ve possibly had long covid... just no way to tell because we weren’t testing then...

HairyToity · 08/01/2021 21:43

As a family we have had five tests. Four of them have been positive. The first for a temperature. This was negative.
The second time it was tiredness, aches, and a nasty head cold. No temperature. No cough. No loss of taste or smell. That one came back positive. Then everyone else got tested, and it also came back positive.

justanotherneighinparadise · 08/01/2021 21:43

None. None of us have been tested in the household. We haven’t been ill bar an obvious cold over Christmas.

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 08/01/2021 21:44

Me 6
Dh 2
Ds1 1
Ds2 none

ChocOrange1 · 08/01/2021 21:44

3 year old tested once. Negative.
2 adults and baby havent been tested at all.

Nicknacky · 08/01/2021 21:46

None at all. Both of us working throughout and both kids at school.

CarlottaValdez · 08/01/2021 21:46

I’ve been tested twice through the Zoe app for headaches and 3 times so far for the ONS study. All negative so far.

Husband once for temperature and gastric symptoms and 3 for ONS. DS no tests.

Spacemonkey2016 · 08/01/2021 21:47

Me: 2
DP: 1
4 yo DS: 1
1 yo DD: 0

All negative.

Mayzee · 08/01/2021 21:48

DD 15 tested twice - negative
DS 13 tested once - negative
DS 10 no tests
Me no tests

InTheLongGrass · 08/01/2021 21:49

All those sound like testing was required. As does the current situation.

For us: 2 weeks isolation because DS1 was coughing before testing became available.
DS1 tested in September - along with DH, because we couldn't figure out how to get only a child test.
Me and DS2: none.
I was also exceedingly ill at Feb half term. I have wondered occasionally if it was covid. I guess I'll never know.

yankeedoodledandee · 08/01/2021 21:51

None of us have needed a test.

Oblomov20 · 08/01/2021 21:51

No tests here. Haven't felt unwell this year.

lazylinguist · 08/01/2021 21:51

None except the lateral flow testing the dc had (negative) on the first Monday back before schools closed the next day. I'm pretty certain I had Covid just before the first lockdown, but nobody was getting tests back then, and anyway my symptoms weren't in line with what the advice said back then (total loss of smell and taste, sore eyes, fatigue, but no cough until later).

LegendDairy · 08/01/2021 21:52

None

ImAllOut · 08/01/2021 21:53

My husband is tested weekly through work, none of the rest of us have been tested or had symptoms. We have two children in schools but neither have had cases in their year groups, and one is at a childminder with no cases. We're in a Welsh "hotspot" too but only know a handful of people who've had it.

MyNameForToday1980 · 08/01/2021 21:54

Me X 2 (both negative, both for a cough).

DH X 1 (negative, cough).

DD X 0 PCR tests, but weekly rapid flow for nursery (all negative).

CindyTurner65 · 08/01/2021 21:56

None, across a family of 4, one DS in nursery and one DS in primary school.

I genuinely never thought anyone would be saying 6/7/8 tests!

ImFree2doasiwant · 08/01/2021 21:56

Those who haven't had any tests, is that because of genuinely no symptoms? Ds1 and I both suffer with coughs, if we get a cold we get an awful cough. We tested receny for really bad coughs, like nothing I'd ever had albeit short lived.

Daisysflowers · 08/01/2021 21:57

Bubble of 8 none of us have needed to be tested. Adults still working and children been at school up until December.

One of my children sometimes gets a nighttime cough that's worse in the winter but she always has so I wouldn't get her tested with no other symptoms. My youngest had quite a bad cold a few weeks ago but it was all runny nose and nothing else. We've been far less ill this year than usual.
InTheLongGrass · 08/01/2021 21:59

Yes, 3 of us have genuinely not had the symptoms that entitle you to testing.
DS1 has, and has been tested.
I would have tested me in Feb and DS1 in March if it had been available.
