1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

They’ve released vague “area” figures for vaccines given between 8 Dec-17 Jan (mixture of first and second doses). What the figures don’t give you is context - population levels for those areas, number of Priority people in those areas, etc.

746,487 Midlands
681,317 North East & Yorkshire
541,145 North West
652,350 South East
461,792 South West
424,136 East of England
417,225 London

FourTeaFallOut · 18/01/2021 16:26

Wait, was it this I found on the BBC live feed?

In total 3,947,442 Covid-19 vaccinations took place in England between December 8 and January 17, according to provisional NHS England data - a rise of 155,848 compared to yesterday's figures.

That doesn't make any sense to me though because the current dashboard data has 3.857m, which is yet to be updated, as the aggregate figure for the whole of the UK. If that figure of 3.9m is just for the UK, then it must have been more than 150k doses in England yesterday??? I've totally confused myself Confused

InterfectoremVulpes · 18/01/2021 16:27

fourtea

Yes but can't vouch for how accurate it is. I've compared it to the England only data on the dashboard and it does look to be down, but I would expect Sundays to be down anyway. The weekend figures from Scotland and Wales are due to be reported today so overall it should be a high number though.

I love reading this post.

I'm hearing of more and more people who I know receiving the jab or being booked in Smile

Due to technical difficulties, today's update to the #COVID19 Dashboard is delayed. An update is expected by 17:00 GMT.

There have been 37,535 new cases and 599 deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

A total of 4,062,501 people have now received the 1st dose of a #vaccine.

Over 4 million - wonderful!!!! That figure is up to and including yesterday, which means we’re on course to hit 5 million people vaccinated by Wednesday evening - which is what I guessed up thread! Smile

That takes us to 6% of the entire UK population vaccinated, protected and safe. And the fact that those 6% are among the most vulnerable people in our society makes it even better!

I’m feeling more positive than I have done in ages Smile

@buttery81 what a fantastic thread. This is making me so much more hopeful!!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/01/2021 17:31

I love how out of date the thread title is already! By the time we need another one goodness knows what the figure will be!

pinkpanther84 · 18/01/2021 18:24

Apologies if this has already been said, is there somewhere I can see the number of vaccinations that have been done in a specific area? Parents are in the over 70 age group and am wondering how much progress has been made with the over 80s where they live

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 18/01/2021 18:27

I don't think that level of detail exists pinkpanther84. I can't find it.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/01/2021 18:32

Sometimes that kind of information is around in local papers but it's sporadic and not regularly updated if it's there at all. I'd love to know too but I expect a site that would allow for such easy comparisons would cause a lot of problems.

Oblomov20 · 18/01/2021 18:43

I was vaccinated today. I'm thrilled. Was very professional and quick.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 18/01/2021 18:46

4 million!

Also the number of cases is now looking visibly down on the graph and today - for the first time in quite a while the “number of hundreds” of deaths is the same as it was a week ago. Until now it has always been more.

It’s slow but things really are getting better. This lockdown is working. And with the vaccinations going up fast the end is in sight.

I agree, it’s really starting to feel that way.

I’ll be so excited when we get to 5 million - can’t wait!

I love that we’ve given more vaccines than diagnosed cases.

(I know that includes second doses - just means I get to be chuffed again when we hit that number with fully vaccinated Grin)

lunar1 · 18/01/2021 20:26

I think it's really important to see second doses going up as well, otherwise we will hit a horrible bottleneck and have to hope people got them in time.

I don't know how many doses need to be given in total, it's probably around 100 million for the uk isn't it when you count everyone likely to have it and two doses each.

PrincessNutNuts · 18/01/2021 20:43

Yes, that's what I think @lunar1.

I think, there's good reason to think it will be less than that. Even if we don't end up with a one dose vaccine like the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, as we only need to vaccinate adults in the UK who want the vaccine (80%). So, 75m ish.

Some smart poster did the maths. It is around 37 million.

Are population is about 65 million. Then take away the kids because we aren't vaccinating them. Then the take away the expected number that doesn't want the vaccine and you get 37 million ish.

Of course that figure then has to be doubled for two doses. If the j&I vaccine doesn't happen. So about 74 million injections.

Of course now we can take away what we have achieved so far. So around 70 million for everyone to have had both doses.
