1.5 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

They’ve vaccinated 1.5 million people so far and the target is 13.9 million people (the top 4 groups in the attached graphic) by the middle of February, according to ITV. It’ll be a fantastic achievement if they can hit that target.

The government will be providing daily updates on the vaccine rollout progress from Monday 11th January.

It’s such a relief that they’ve got this vaccine and are rolling it out quickly across the country. Considering that it’s only 8th January today, I truly feel like 13.9 million by mid February is achievable.

Come on, let’s do this!

None of us bet on Thursday mid - morning. Someone suggested Thursday lunchtime but the rest of us were later.

I think I said Thursday afternoon - and I thought that was quite optimistic! I’m so proud of how well we’re doing.

5 million... let’s have it!!! Grin

@FourTeaFallOut

I mean, really we should insist that the government pin the elderly down and demand they have the vaccine so they don't fuck up the figures.
Wink Big take up is needed in the oldest age groups to make a similar sized difference to the death numbers, isn't it?

I don't have any figures for how many are refused and how many haven't been attempted yet. My great Uncle is in a care homes and he hasn't heard a dickiebird yet he says.

Oh, sorry, I put all this on the wrong thread. Just ignore it princessnutsnuts, you'll hate it.
Why will I hate it?

Because it's generally optimistic about the potential capacity and you seem to wander around the coronavirus board like the grey lady looking for joy to extinguish. Grin

@PrincessNutNuts not all elderly have heard depends to vary
I know if several people who have had both and my nan 87 heard yesterday she is getting hers next week. All the older people I know seem keen to have it , its more younger that are concerned.

Nearly 1 in 20 people have had the vaccine Smile

ReallySpicyCurry · 15/01/2021 21:03

I just thought I'd update for those who aren't sure about the vaccine due to side effects.

My DH had side effects this week after his second jab. Headache and that fatigue you get right before flu. He actually took a day off work, which he never does. I fed him up with bacon sandwiches and he had a good sleep and....

..... Today he is absolutely fine. And is happy that he's fully vaccinated

5 million mark by next Thursday or maybe Wednesday. If weekend volumes hold up, Wednesday seems a goer.

Yes, I wonder what the plan is with weekends - will they be able to keep up the pace do you think? I wonder if we will get an updated figure on the government website today too - I look forward to seeing the new number every day!

Nearly 1 in 20 people have had the vaccine

I still can’t get over this stat - pure brilliance!!

As for reaching the 5 million mark - I’m going to plump for Wednesday evening! Grin

I had a really weird dream last night that the gov had introduced the vaccines into food, for people who were scared of needles.
It came as 1 dose in 1 Christmas pudding
Or a kind if ice cream bomb
Or a little sort of oil capsule (like the small capsules vo5 hair oil comes in)
They had pics on the news of people eating a whole xmas pudding in one go to get their dose!😂😂😂

lljkk · 16/01/2021 09:06

300k persons being vax'd day.
3 million vax'd (once) so far
goal is 15 million by mid Feb - 20 working days from today
12 million deficit (for first jab)
They need to double from 300k/day to 600k/day avg over the period from now to 14 Feb to meet that goal.

Nearly All those people will still be awaiting 2nd jab.
There are another 12 million in groups 5-8
Suppose that 12 million group 5-8 get their first jab in period mid Feb to mid March.

Then go back to groups 1-4 for 2nd jab: mid March to late April (there will be an Easter delay).

Then go back to groups 5-8 for 2nd jab: late April to end May.

If they can give out avg 600k jabs/day.

Yesterday was the first day that anyone in my area travelled to hub to receive the first jab.

buttery81 · 16/01/2021 09:24

They need to double from 300k/day to 600k/day avg over the period from now to 14 Feb to meet that goal.

I disagree with this on several counts.

Firstly, I can’t imagine they won’t be vaccinating people at weekends - and if you include weekends in the timeframe, we’ve got 31 days up to and including 14th February. I’m counting yesterday in that 31 days as we haven’t had a vaccination figure for Friday yet.

Secondly, the aim is to vaccinate 13.9 people by mid February, not 15 million. Source: www.itv.com/news/2021-01-15/so-far-so-good-covid-vaccine-rollout-on-track-to-achieve-mid-february-target-shapps-says

Thirdly, given the number of people vaccinated already, they need to do another 10,665,054 by mid February to meet the target. 10,665,054 divided by 31 = 344,034 a day - nowhere near the 600,000 you were suggesting.

That would be with 100% take up too. So, I imagine there will be some leeway.
