Covid outbreak in China

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 08/01/2021 02:11

It seems as if there may be a resurgence of Coronavirus in China, Hebei Province near Beijing.

asiatimes.com/2021/01/biggest-covid-outbreak-since-wuhan-creeps-toward-Beijing

after sporadic outbreaks since the New Year in Hebei’s capital of Shijiazhuang have grown into bigger clusters that now threaten to spread through the entire city.

I suppose it was inevitable that the virus would reappear in China eventually, it has slowed in India but not gone away and Japan has seen an increase as well.

They have locked the city down hard though so we'll see if their measures get them through to the vaccination levels they need.

Kokeshi123 · 08/01/2021 02:29

Wonder if the NY celebrations had anything to do with this? Although maybe it's a bit soon, given the usual incubation period.

I am also wondering whether this could be the new variant. Given that this is China, though, it's not going to be easy to get straight and truthful information out of anyone. The NV is apparently spreading in Oz, too, even though the Australians have done a very thorough job of quarantining people. Makes me wonder if the NV is infectious enough to defy quarantine restrictions in some way. Perhaps it is easier to transmit through surface transmission and comes in on freight, or is able to linger in the body for long periods like typhoid, meaning that people who have quarantined can still be carriers.

Kokeshi123 · 08/01/2021 02:31

If the NV proves infectious enough to defy even Chinese-level restrictions (which is only a maybe) then we really do have to speed up the vax rollout. Or accept a lot of deaths and mayhem.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 08/01/2021 02:46

I think they are blaming it on the UK NV, from returning Chinese students.

@Glenorma

Couldn’t be happier for them, considering they caused this whole situation in the first place!
Seriously? Normal Chinese people will die and you're happy.

Proper fucking arsehole.

Wow that is a terrible thing to say!

I'm in Japan - yes we've had a big increase in daily cases - over 7000 new cases reported nationwide yesterday.
Tokyo and surrounding areas are now in a state of emergency (can't go into lockdown because of the Constitution) but schools are still open.

QuickGetTheEggplants · 08/01/2021 03:01

The NV is not exactly "spreading in Oz" at this point. There have been cases in quarantine in most states. One quarantine worker in Queensland caught the NV. She may have unknowingly spread it. Brisbane is on a three day lockdown to find out if she did it not.

Just keeping things accurate so people don't seize on inaccurate information to justify giving up on containment measures.

What a nasty, ignorant comment. You should be ashamed of yourself.

GingerScallop · 08/01/2021 03:14

There are resurgences in over a dozen countries, technically including the UK and much of Europe. So not sure why this China specific post. Only asking because it is likely to attract people like Glenorma.

@Glenorma, are you this nasty in general or is it just today?

StopSquirtingBleachOnCaneToads · 08/01/2021 03:20

Glenorma, come on. The ordinary people living in China did not cause this situation and they do not deserve to die from a horrible virus.

Would you like to be personally blamed for this new strain of covid? I am in Australia and over here it is being called "UK Covid". I haven't heard anyone ignorantly proclaim that they'd be delighted if lots more people in the UK died. Thankfully most people aren't as heartless as you.

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/01/2021 03:37

And now we will see how the virus can be eliminated quickly. I am appalled that people were welded into their homes during the outbreak in China. However, for the rest, this seems to be a well oiled machine. This could have been us had the government been thinking about saving lives rather than Brexit at all costs.

There's some fucking irony.
Wannabangbang · 08/01/2021 08:14

Glenorma why would you say such a thing? You do realise that chinese citizens had nothing to do with the mess that's been caused don't you? That's on the chinese government!! So you think it's okay to say it's their own fault? Despicable, they are people

FOJN · 08/01/2021 08:24

And now we will see how the virus can be eliminated quickly.

The will CCP claim they have suppressed the outbreaks but we won't know how true that is or what methods are used to achieve the objective. We will probably see only what the CCP want us to see.

There is so much anti CCP sentiment combined with the CCP's ability to control information that I never know what to believe about events in China. I suspect 90%, good or bad, is propaganda.

You seem nice.
Footle · 08/01/2021 09:49

@Kokeshi123 , Chinese New Year starts on Feb 12th this year

FOJN · 08/01/2021 10:01

Chinese New Year starts on Feb 12th this year

Whilst this is true, there were pictures and videos of New Year celebrations in China available on the internet 30 minutes after midnight on 31st December. They appeared to show large crowds celebrating the streets. Who knows if they were real?

Kokeshi123 · 08/01/2021 10:05

The 31 Dec celebrations were attended by huge crowds.

Of course it's reasonable to have a thread about China per se. China is known for having very severe quarantine and lockdowns, so an outbreak there will give us an idea of how easyor hardit is to contain the new strain. Assuming that that's what it is.

blueangel19 · 08/01/2021 10:31

Unbelievable!

To deliberately tweak what Mandy Rice-Davies said........."Well, they would say that, wouldn't they?"
Kokeshi123 · 08/01/2021 13:56

For once, they're probably telling the truth. The problem is that, like the little boy who cries wolf, the CCP fibs so often and so compulsively that now nobody believes them even if they are saying something that's truthful.

Must be quite annoying, really!

DollyParton2 · 08/01/2021 14:03

How would we really know though? We can’t believe a thing the Chinese do actually release as news and most of the truth- facts, figures etc is just lied about or hidden. So corrupt in so many ways - and to blame for all of this Angry

Bit of cheek considering they gave it to the world.

"To blame for all of this"? FFS the UK is a shit heap of crap because of the lying turds in charge. Ours lie constantly too. As does the US. And they incite riots and insurrection. At least the Chinese government has controlled the virus a little more effectively. Ours lied while NOT doing that.
