Are they incredibly quiet now in lockdown or fairly ok?

I'm in London (zone 1 but not West End) and the roads are very busy, but fewer people on foot and it seems quieter because there aren't many schoolkids around. Buses are emptier. Not seeing anyone gathering in groups, it's mostly single people, workers or parents with dc.

Quiet here.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/01/2021 11:25

Quiet here. I went for a walk yesterday and then popped into Tesco Express for milk on my way home - I saw one couple in the street, then there was a woman in the shop. That was it! It is really cold here though, snow today, so that is possibly keeping people indoors more.

Springersrock · 08/01/2021 11:32

Quieter than usual, but busier than the first lockdown.

I’m still working - my company has stayed open this time, and it seems like a lot of factories in my industrial estate are also open

Town is dead and the local Co-Op has been very quiet whenever I’ve been in there.

I go to our horses very early morning then about 5:30pm every day and the roads are much quieter than usual.

There are posts all over Facebook complaining about how busy everywhere is and how the beach is heaving and the town centre is packed, but that’s not been my experience at all.

Live and work mainly in a large village. People are out walking, but no more than usual. I walked through supermarket carpark yesterday which was half empty then up our main street and saw no one (mind you all the other shops are closed).

I should clarify, the walk way along the beach was heaving...the beach itself not so much

Springersrock · 08/01/2021 11:51

During the first lockdown, our local police were shoo-ing everyone off the beach, meaning the surrounding pavements were busy.

They’re leaving people alone this time.

There’s a few people on the bit I can see - single dog walkers and a couple of families

unmarkedbythat · 08/01/2021 11:53

I wouldn't know, I only see the street I live on, the main roads on my way to and from work, the site I work on and the supermarket.

The number of sm posts I have seen by people grousing that when they were out and about there ware far too many people out and about and all those people are selfish lockdown flouters spreading covid… It never seems to occur to them that they, too are out and about doing exactly the same thing.

UndertheCedartree · 08/01/2021 11:54

It's pretty quiet here.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 08/01/2021 12:03

Im supposed to be going for a walk along the beach with a friend, shes just texted to say its really busy so we are changing direction 😀

I don’t complain about people being on the beach, access to the beach is why most of us live here

GypsyLee · 08/01/2021 12:04

Absolutely no difference at all, just as busy, especially school run and rush hour.
Is anyone at home?

annevonkleve · 08/01/2021 12:05

Busier with pedestrians, a bit less busy with cars.

Crakeandoryx · 08/01/2021 12:08

Don't know. I'm staying at home

I haven't noticed a major drop in vehicle traffic, but I'm on a main road between multiple industrial estates -- lorry noise makes up for any reduction in cars and we've a lot of taxis doing deliveries of various things now.

People traffic is a lot lower though. Fewer on the school run has significantly cut that and far less people are having a chat right outside which is nice (I live next to a corner shop, people had taken over the summer and autumn to using my front garden wall as a place to chat and snack at a distance from each other).

@PickAChew

Sorry for being insensitive *@msssm*. My eldest has pretty much locked himself away and barely left the house over the past 10 months and the decline in his fitness is worrying. If I can tempt him out of the house, he struggles with even a slight uphill. :(
Not at all @PickAChew it was a reasonable question.

Not sure if this will help in your sons case but mine is 16 and does weightlifting. Just dumbbells and a doorway pull up bar at home but he loves it and it keeps him fit during these times.

Kids are always a worry though, and definitely more so at the moment. 💐 for you.

TheMostHappy · 08/01/2021 12:42

Really busy. Way more people out walking / running than what I normally see on the same route to childminder and back. Traffic just seems fairly normal.
