How busy are the streets where you are?

Are they incredibly quiet now in lockdown or fairly ok?

OP posts:
NotAnotherUserNumber · 08/01/2021 00:07

It is mostly very quiet around me, except I live fairly near to a large hospital which seems to keep having protestors gathering outside!

msssm · 08/01/2021 00:11

I've just realised I've absolutely no idea. Quiet wee village anyway but we haven't been over the door since Xmas, and because it's freezing I've not even had the curtains or blinds open. Lovely cosy relaxing bubble. Ends tomorrow though as we need to collect work packs from school to go along with online work.

I hope it's quiet and people are listening so this thing is will be over sooner rather than later.

middleager · 08/01/2021 00:15

There are plenty (like me) out walking around estates it seems.

The roads look the same and the supermarket too, but some still not bothering about masks/distancing.

Firebird83 · 08/01/2021 00:16

As busy as normal, if not busier. Definitely not like the first lockdown.

InsertRudeWord · 08/01/2021 00:17

Ghost town.

PickAChew · 08/01/2021 00:20

I live on a main road. I can cross it far more easily than normal.

AdoptedBumpkin · 08/01/2021 00:20

Pretty quiet, but in a quiet place anyway. There seem to be fewer people walking, perhaps due to the weather.

Do you not worry about your lack of exercise?
LaurieFairyCake · 08/01/2021 00:22

London - quiet. Went to the pharmacy earlier, no queue - pretty much saw noone

(Zone 3)

VaggieMight · 08/01/2021 00:23

As busy as before lockdown but in an area with comparatively lower infection rates. People probably have a false sense of security.

Vargas · 08/01/2021 00:35

London - zone 2. Much quieter.

WanderingFruitWonderer · 08/01/2021 04:38

Like a pp, I'm also on the coast. The seafront is busier than normal. I didn't go out yesterday, but had a long coastal walk the day before, and lots of groups on the beach. I think there's something about a lockdown that attracts people to the sea - probably because it's such a fresh, free, open space, and the opposite of being locked down. I do feel it's safe, as it's so easy to distance, even with more people than normal. I'm a tiny bit worried about the large groups, but I just have to concentrate on doing the right thing myself.
I'm trying to avoid shops, but did some essential shopping on Tuesday, and it was quieter than normal. But to be honest, it doesn't feel anything like the March lockdown round my way. Unfortunately, there are loads of conspiracy theorists & deniers round here, which is very upsetting, as they're blocked off to logical reasoning. I just have to concentrate on following the rules myself...

RingtheBells · 08/01/2021 05:08

I went out to M&S food and to return items to Next click and collect, M&S not busy, lots of very reduced food items which suggested not that busy at all, Next queue had 2 people. Roads slightly quieter than usual.

DH went for 20 mile yomp over fields, out all day and saw about 10 people, mainly dog walkers.

msssm · 08/01/2021 05:09

@PickAChew

'Do you not worry about your lack of exercise?'

No, I'm disabled so can only really do chair exercises which I only do at home anyway. My child does a sport that he's done mostly at home this year due to gym being closed. We could probably use fresh air though but just been enjoying the time off from everything I guess. Reality will hit again tomorrow I'm sure 😂

WanderingMilly · 08/01/2021 05:14

Village life here, long walk in the countryside on Thursday morning, no-one about. Main road through village was quiet, hardly any traffic at all, no lorries either. However, the weather is bad too...very icy and cold, might have made a bit of a difference.

In the afternoon I went to the nearest market town to find food supplies. Very quiet indeed and the shop was deserted too, extremely unusual. And the town road had 2 police cars and 4 police stopping and checking folk who were about, asking why they were out!

RingtheBells · 08/01/2021 05:16

Just see previous post about lack of exercise and released I haven't been out for exercise for about a week as it is too cold, it warms up next week though so might try to get out. DH is doing my share so maybe that countsGrin.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 08/01/2021 05:23

Quieter than usual but definitely busier than the March March lockdown. I work out of the home so I'm out the house daily.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/01/2021 05:43

Not heaving but not dead (like the start of the March lockdown). Seeing the usual groups of teens hanging around the Tesco Express after popping in for their essential can of coke and snacks. Traffic seems pretty normal too (as I drive home from my cannot do at home job).

RandomGrammarPun · 08/01/2021 05:48

No idea!!

I'm a teacher so am only ever at home or in school (haven't been in or through "town" or to a supermarket since March). Morning commute is always quiet as v early. Evening commute seems a bit quieter than normal.

RumHoney · 08/01/2021 05:58

Yesterday was the first time I've been out since new year's Day (I've been exercising inside on the turbo due to ice since then) and I was surprised how busy it was. Lots of people walking in the park (fine) but also lots of traffic on the way there and lots of cars parked at the park so people had driven there from other areas.

user1487194234 · 08/01/2021 06:25

Busier than in the first lockdown

Lampzade · 08/01/2021 06:48

The first lockdown my area was like a ghost town. This time it is definitely more busy.
There are cars everywhere.
My concern is that the levels will not reduce and we will be stuck in lockdown for months

MiniTheMinx · 08/01/2021 06:53

Small town, South East not too far from Brighton. Less cars but lots of people wandering around the town centre and high street. That was 4 days ago. Coffee shops open for take away so it seems to be a thing to go buy coffee and mooch about. Perhaps it is part of the their exercise routine.

ginsparkles · 08/01/2021 06:55

Small town, very quiet. Roads are quieter and no footfall outside the shop I work at.

yomellamoHelly · 08/01/2021 06:59

I get out for a walk during prime commuter hours. There are the same amount of cars as normal and the dual carriageway near me sounds just as bad as ever. Buses the same too. Though I think there are slightly fewer pedestrians than normal.
Last March everything was deadly quiet. Hardly any cars. No buses for ages, and then running empty for a long time.

During the day however there are hardly any people on the streets outside our house. (Have become used to seeing plenty during the later half of the first lockdown and during the second 'lockdown'.)
