Clap for Carers

Was it tonight? Nobody clapped on my street (and last time everyone was out and really into it). I did hear a couple of fireworks in the distance at around 8pm. It was tonight... right?

Nothing here, built up area not a peep. Though with covid been so infectious not wise get everyone on doorsteps in elbow distance of nextdoor. Even when showed on channel4 people are to close together.

Livelovebehappy · 07/01/2021 20:32

First time round, lockdown was a novelty, something that we thought would be over within a few weeks, the sun was shining, we were all in it together etc etc. This time round it’s dark out there, freezing cold, nearly a year down the line and we’re still stuck in the lockdown cycle, and we now feel we’re not all in it together - people are beyond fed up with rule breakers and just want the whole thing to be over and done with.

littlepattilou · 07/01/2021 20:36

Nothing here @elprup

Even the woman who started it all has disassociated herself from it now, and every person on Twitter that I have seen today (who works for the NHS,) has said 'DO NOT CLAP FOR US! Just follow the rules, stay indoors as much as possible, and wear a mask!'

Also, we have 3" of snow, (and it's still snowing and has been since 4pm,) and it's minus 3 degrees C, so no WAY were any of us going outside.

Even if it's 20 degrees C next Thursday evening, I won't be doing it.

I talked with some NHS frontline friends about this... the general take on it was that they appreciated the sentiment but actually they'd rather sleep during off time and not be bothered with idiotic A&E visits during on time. Clap for Carers did have a place in bringing the country together back in Lockdown One, but as at least one pp has said it also turned into an informal pavement piss-up too, whenever it was a reasonably balmy spring night and people had brought a bottle out...

sparkle58 · 07/01/2021 20:38

Nothing here and we were all out last time.

RaininSummer · 07/01/2021 20:43

Nope don't think anything happened here. I am full of gratitude and appreciation for the work being done but I won't ever be standing in the street clapping.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 07/01/2021 20:44

I didn't hear anything, but DH and I were talking and had the TV on as well, so could well have missed it.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 07/01/2021 20:45

Nothing here last time quite a few.

ragdollwner · 07/01/2021 20:47

Yes. Heard someone banging a saucepan for several minutes.

maddiemookins16mum · 07/01/2021 20:51

Nothing here but I was in the bath anyways. Plus it’s freezing.

roarfeckingroarr · 07/01/2021 20:51

Silence here (London(. Inane competitive seal claps last time.

danmthatonestakentryanotheer · 07/01/2021 20:53

Nothing here although dearly beloved did bring me some wine...all the appreciation this key worker needs. 🍷🍷

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 07/01/2021 20:55

No, but I intentionally live in the arse back-end of nowhere because I want to be left alone 😂

Janedownourlane · 07/01/2021 20:56

Just one on our street, no one else ventured out, it had just started snowing though!

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 07/01/2021 20:56

No - too cold and too dark and not clapping doesn't mean l don't appreciate key workers

Hueandcry · 07/01/2021 20:57

Nothing here. It's sub zero. I half expected the neighbour who stood on his balcony bellowing like Tarzan last time to be out but not a peep....thank goodness!!

mynameiscalypso · 07/01/2021 20:58

I heard one person here but we also had clapping every single night - not just Thursdays - at 8pm during the first lockdown so I wasn't surprised that someone nearby did it tonight

Benjispruce2 · 07/01/2021 21:00

Too cold. I’m just trying to follow the rules instead.

Ifwemakeitthroughdecember · 07/01/2021 21:02

Didn't clap last time. not clapping this time.

Emmelina · 07/01/2021 21:04

A short spell of clapping from somewhere in the distance. Just a few seconds though, maybe 10 seconds at a guess. Not the explosive clapping and whooping and pan-banging of the spring!

Whammyyammy · 07/01/2021 21:08

Nothing hear thankfully

warmandtoasty2day · 07/01/2021 21:14

the clappers here are all clapped out thank god !

Calmandmeasured1 · 07/01/2021 21:20

I didn't think to look out and can't hear from inside with windows shut but people would have been mad to go out in this freezing weather.

WookieWoo · 07/01/2021 21:21

Thankfully nothing here.

After the decisions I've had to make today, I'd rather people stayed the fuck indoors.

MissCalamity · 07/01/2021 21:23

I completely forgot as I would have looked out of my bedroom window in the dark to see if anyone was out.

We have a neighbourhood WhatsApp group and nothing was put on there which was quite unusual.
