Is this really legal???

I had a thread last month about the same thing but now we're in a March style lockdown I'm even more Hmm

My DH is doing a business coaching course, they meet once a month when 20+ people come from all over the UK for a day together in a room with the business coach. It's hosted in London in the Hilton.

Last month I was very unhappy about it since London was in Tier 4 and it seemed totally irresponsible.

I really complained about it to DH who very reluctantly decided not to go (he sulked for a few hours). I'm not CEV but am in the 'more vulnerable' get a free flu jab group. We have a 66 year old lodger and we were meeting his parents in their 70s for Xmas the following week.

Anyway...we've gone into lockdown now, the case numbers are crazy, the new variant is spreading like wildfire. It didn't even cross my mind that it would go ahead in person this month.

DH has just informed me that it is going ahead next week.

That the Hilton have advised that it's perfectly legal to have a business meeting with 20+ people coming on public transport from all over the UK.

This seems fucking crazy.

I can't see that it's on the list of exceptions on the Govt website?

Can anyone find how this is supposedly legal?

Because I haven't reported anything but if this isn't legal I'm going to report it TBH.

Oh, it's him.

There will be more whining on the Missus' 'gram, then.

Typical 'influencer' tantrums.

umpteennamechanges · 07/01/2021 16:37

Sorry...had to withdraw the last message as I accidentally put the coach's first name in it

Here it is with that bit redacted...

DH is okay.

He's a bit subdued but not angry with me.

I think possibly some of the scales fell off his eyes when he heard how the coach dealt with it as, of course, I put him on speaker phone.

He also now realises he lied to the Hilton.

I am thankful that this is the end of the coaching programme anyway.

I'll see how things play out and what DH wants to do but if he excludes DH I would be tempted to get a refund of part of the course fee. Though I doubt he'll do it and so it becomes a question of whether I can be bothered to have a public spat.

DH hates conflict so is unlikely to want to fight for a refund.

We'll see.

@goodwinter

Yep, OP is my ballsy hero.

Believe me when I say, this gets me in trouble much more than it works in my favour generally speaking 🤣

I don't follow him but might have a sneak peek over the next few days to see if he or his wife (who I possibly feel a bit sorry for if he's like this at home) say anything

But yes, he is an 'influencer' type. Probably why he thinks it's a 'personal attack' - presumably thinks I actually remotely care. Other than speaking to him once I don't know him from Adam.

Shame I didn't record the phone call really.

Methinks someone doesn't like any kind of challenge at all and he thought I'd cry or something. Erm, no.

😂😂

Well done Op.
He sounds like a right bellend.

CheetasOnFajitas · 07/01/2021 17:06

OP, you rock. And actually your DH sounds like an alright bloke too.

londongirl12 · 07/01/2021 17:08

Dying to know who it is. I was a PT before I had my DS, and most of these "building business" things are shit

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 07/01/2021 17:23

OP you are a legend.

I love the fact he doesn’t want to speak to you ever again when he was the one that phoned you.

ThinkWittyThoughts · 07/01/2021 17:41

Thank you OP.

You've just done a service to the nation frankly, because you've single-handedly prevented further spread of infections.

20 people attending, on public transport = 100s exposed to risk of infection, and if caught all their contacts (100s) also exposed.

If Boris is reading this, and MBE is in order.

Hmm. This makes me think there should be a OMN* honour (Order of Mumsnet).

*I really wanted that to be Whitty (see name) but am too in awe of OP to think straight.

@Bumbl

I'm dying to know who it is and to watch their youtube vid
Me too! But there are dozens of these 'top' gurus running 'mastermind' courses. A fool s as nd is money are easily parted as they say,

This particular specimen has nearly 50k followers on Instagram.

So does he teach "business" in a formal way, ie according to a relatively formal curriculum drawing on academic sources, with a qualification at the end?

Or is it just the usual feel-good offering, letting people into some magical secret which is the "key to success in business" type of thing?

As a university lecturer, I find it astonishing that he tried to justify going ahead when we can't even teach people doing formal degrees at the moment.

StylishMummy · 07/01/2021 18:24

I now have a lady crush on @umpteennamechanges Blush PLEASE name the twat meathead

Myshinynewname2021 · 07/01/2021 18:32

It's not Joe wicks is it? That would be extremely disappointing. And surprising!

Cornettoninja · 07/01/2021 18:36

Well done @umpteennamechanges! This was honestly the best outcome you could have had, even though meathead tried the ‘reputation’ angle he’s talking out his backside. You approached the venue and he hasn’t been named (although feel free ‘cause he sounds like a cock). He can still run his precious sodding course through the wonder of technology!

NotSorry · 07/01/2021 18:37

Unlikely - he has nearly 4 million followers
StylishMummy · 07/01/2021 18:47

I'm guessing the guy from Team RH Hmm

ThinkWittyThoughts · 07/01/2021 18:48

Also.

How has this person possibly lost money?! His worse case scenario is not getting a refund. There are no additional costs to not using something already paid for & then using zoom.

Weird accusation.

QueenoftheAir · 07/01/2021 18:58

Also dying to know. Not my finest thoughts ...

Not disappointing or surprising to me but he has a lot more than 50k followers.
shesyourlobster · 07/01/2021 19:09

Well done OP. Think I might know who it is but not sure if it is against guidelines to post. Initial PG?

CheetasOnFajitas · 07/01/2021 19:17

Not a good idea to speculate re name in here as OP will be indentifiable to the individual and she might find him trying to sue her for defamation or something.

CheetasOnFajitas · 07/01/2021 19:17

Or this awesome thread will get taken down and we don’t want that!

GreenlandTheMovie · 07/01/2021 19:21

@CheetasOnFajitas

Although he would almost certainly be unsuccessful, because (a) he is trying to profit from an illegal activity and (b) he would be unable to prove actual economic loss. And the OP hasn't posted an untrue statement - she has simply been factual.

But I get the point. He would probably be silly enough to pay someone to send a formal letter threatening it.

@Myshinynewname2021

Nooooooooooo!

I can't imagine Joe Wicks doing any of this! He is most definitely not the wannabe-alpha-meathead type
