Then why? Just curious as to why some people will not get it

OP posts:
Nanny0gg · 07/01/2021 09:51

@bravotango

I dont like my dna being played with. Nope

plus its a new type of vaccine inserting man made dna into your body.
Nope, not new technology

'anti vaxxers' are being mocked for their stupidity
hahahaha

🤣🤣
Nanny0gg · 07/01/2021 09:54

Look at Rob Swanda on YouTube

Excellent explanation as to how the vaccine works

DeeCeeCherry · 07/01/2021 10:16

Thalidomide wasn't a vaccine

Nanny I didn't say it was.

OP asked a question, I answered OP with my thoughts. That's all.

Generally I don't know why so many are wound up, pouncing on post replies. Its how miserable, negative mindsets are formed.

Better to learn and accept that we do not all have the same opinion on things, are at different stages of life, and going round and round in circles demanding others answer to you for their own opinions or have the same views as you, is unrealistic. & pointless.

This is just an internet board.

It must all be very draining.

I respect the views of those who do want vaccine, and those who don't. No inquisition from me. That's all.

blueangel19 · 07/01/2021 10:19

People should investigate the difference between the vaccines available.

My advise is if you decide not to have it keep to yourself.

lunar1 · 07/01/2021 10:36

I will have the vaccine as soon as I am eligible for it.

While it won't be compulsory in the uk, I can see it being a requirement for certain activities in the future.

Janegrey333 · 07/01/2021 10:43

I despair of those people who see conspiracy around every corner and who, at times like this, wilfully endanger a massive community effort.

This morning I find myself comparing them to those “democrats” who stormed Capitol Hill yesterday.

I feel contempt for them.

Cheeserton · 07/01/2021 10:46

So depressing how many people belive the shite about 'not being tested enough' etc.

Well understood technology and well understood processes have all been followed as usual, with many testing phases done in parallel rather than in sequence, because money is no object and the urgency was there to shelve other stuff immediately and pool the best international scientific minds in the world to get this done.

Every single person who refuses it without a valid medical reason is a person who condemns us to more of this crap. Haven't we had enough yet? This needs everyone, it's not something that can be done for you by everybody else.

Quoting high survival rates for Covid is fine and dandy, except for the fact that we'll just continue screwing up everyone's education, businesses, jobs and social lives of any sort until it's under control to any extent. Ifweveryone thinks like that we're fucked.

Have the bloody thing if you can, ASAP. There is no plan B here.

wigglerose · 07/01/2021 10:57

Ok, I have a follow up question.

Everyone that is going to wait and see, if you get an opportunity to have the vaccine but turn it down because you want to wait and see:

  1. How long do you want to wait and why?
  2. What makes you think the vaccine will be available for you when the ideal amount of time has passed and you have the evidence you've been waiting for?
  3. What information do you have that makes you think you'll be able to have it when you want, not when it is available for you?
  4. If you get the opportunity to have it, turn it down because you don't want it yet, then have the right to have it whenever you want, is it moral to jump the queue ahead of people who have been waiting longer than you and would have had it when you were offered it if they could?
  5. Would you just wait until absolutely everyone has had it, then have it? I.e. go right to the back of the queue?
unicornpower · 07/01/2021 11:05

TTC having IVF in March, women who are TTC or pregnant are advised not to have the vaccine (Pfizer, not sure about the oxford one yet) has anyone got info on it?

combatbarbie · 07/01/2021 11:13

Concerned about the data or rather non data surrounding fertility, not so much for me but for my daughters.

Wellsbells · 07/01/2021 11:14

I’m standing in a queue to have it now, should be about 20 mins I’m guessing

Luckingfovely · 07/01/2021 11:18

Half of this thread reads like complete parody. How are there so many seemingly willing ignorant people out there? (Is it just for our entertainment purposes?Grin)

Fit, 40s, long-distance runner here. Had Covid in March, now on the Long Covid register, long term effects ranging from developing severe anaemia, ear problems, skin problems, digestive problems, and extreme and ongoing exhaustion.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone I care about.

(If only I'd known homeopathy could help earlier Wink)

Crowncan · 07/01/2021 11:22

I’m pregnant so won’t be able to have it until later (although possibly will be fine by the time I’m at the front of the queue!).

Very worrying the amount of people saying they won’t have it for utterly ridiculous reasons! Don’t they realise it’s our ticket out of this situation!!!?

Especially worried by a couple of ECV women on here who are TTC and therefore delaying. Please wait the extra few months. Even if you are shielding you will have to go into hospital for scans/birth and may catch it there.

Angeliana · 07/01/2021 11:29

All those who are TTC and not wanting the vaccination - are your husbands having it?!

1940s · 07/01/2021 11:36

33 with no issues with my health. Im thin, healthy, exercise regularly, work from home and am actively TTC and will breastfeed. I don't see any reason why I will be invited but I would avoid the jab as I see my chances of surviving (approximately 400 deaths under the age of 60 with no other comorbidities) as very good and I will always seek the risk balance and don't see the need to inject myself with medication when my risk factor is so so low. I don't see a risk necessarily with the vaccine itself, but much like the reason I have never had a flu jab I will not be taking this. Should I develop asthma or become morbidly obese I would take the vaccine. Until then I will live my healthy lifestyle and am happy with my risk analysis.

TheDayAfter · 07/01/2021 11:39

Cheeserton that’s nonsense. The manufacturers themselves say it hasn’t been adequately tested and that long term risks are unknown, hence why they required indemnity from responsibility should any severe health implications arises in a few years due to the vaccine. So how can you say they have done all the testing when they themselves say they haven’t?

Cheeserton · 07/01/2021 11:47

Cheeserton that’s nonsense.
It's not remotely nonsense.

manufacturers themselves say it hasn’t been adequately tested and that long term risks are unknown
No they haven't said that it hasn't 'adequately tested'. But please, spread more lies to help screw us all over a bit more by all means...

Here's what the head of Pfizer has actually said:

""We didn't cut any corners," he told a virtual media briefing hosted by the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA).

The vaccine, based on new technology, has been tested "in the exact same way as we are testing any vaccine that is circulating out there," Bourla assured.

In fact, he added, "this vaccine actually was tested, because of the scrutiny, with even higher standards in terms of how we do things." "

Go and test your statements on any doctor worth their salt. They are all having it and they're doing so for the reasons I've given.

Stop reading Facebook and go study science.

TheDayAfter · 07/01/2021 12:05

I have studied science thank you very much and didn’t read anything about it on Facebook.

Godimabitch · 07/01/2021 12:14

@wigglerose

Either, the vaccine will work and bring deaths down and it'll become like seasonal flu where the vulnerable and those that want it get the vaccine (probably yearly updates like flu) but others aren't offered it. So I just wont have it at all.

The vaccine works and everything is back to normal but countries insist the vaccine is had to enter the country. I'll look into it if I'm booking a holiday and probably have the vaccine. This is probably years away, we dont have any foreign holidays planned.

The vaccine works but uptake isn't enough and our economy isn't recovering because we cant get back to normal and they send out further invites for the vaccine, I'll look into it again and decide again, then take the invite when and if I receive it if I want it then.

At no point will I decide I want the vaccine and request it without having a reason to and ask for an appointment while others are still queuing for it. But I'm in my 20s with no health conditions and I've had it so I'm not mega worried about my personal risk.

I'm not telling people not to have it, just that I personally am more comfortable waiting. If you're worried about how covid will affect you, have the vaccine, whether I have it doesn't affect you.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 07/01/2021 12:18

I won't be having the vaccine. In a similar manner to PPS, I take vaccines either (a) when I'm forced to (for travel sometimes) or (b) using a risk-based approach.

I'm 53 and in excellent health. I don't consider myself in a high risk group for Covid and, as PPs have said, I'll have what I think I need. I don't have a flu vaccine either.

For the thousands asserting that they're doing this for others ..... what an altruistic bunch you are. I'm happy to do my bit for society in other ways.

TheSeaMonkeyHasMyMoney · 07/01/2021 12:21

@TheDayAfter

I've had covid and shall not be having the vaccine. PP above saying "no evidence of it causing harm" to unborn baby, is because they haven't tested it on pregnant women and their babies, and even if they had they wouldn't yet have given birth so wouldn't be able to tell if there were any severe effects on the baby. Why on earth would a pregnant woman risk it? The Pfizer vax basically tells your cells to make the spike protein and then your body attacks those cell in an immune response, but how can they know (yet) whether the attack is limited to those cells and not other healthy cells (such as in the case of chemotherapy etc) or developing cells of the fetus? Genuinely interested to know the science behind that if anyone can shed light on it.
Our bodies are able to be very specific. When a virus or other infection enters our body, our body knows it does not belong there as the cells don't match our own dna. It assesses the infection, produces antibodies that match to the infection specifically, and those antibodies then mark the infection so our body attacks it.

A vaccine, on the other hand, just provides our body with a blueprint of how to produce the antibody so that it can start to make lots of copies of the relevant antibody. This simulates the immune response without actually infecting us in any way.

Our own antibodies don't mark our own cells for destruction, only the infection cells. Antibodies are very specific and seek only the infectious particles in the body - and when they find the infection / viral cells, they mark them for destruction by our own immune system. Our body then keeps those antibodies so that if/when we are infected by the same or a similar particle in the future, the body kills it before it has chance to do any damage. That's how vaccines cause us to build immunity.

So, to answer your question, we are able to know that the attack is limited to the infection cells because that's what antibodies do. They able to read cells, so they know which are the body's own cells and which ones are foreign articles.

I hope this helps a bit.

Cheeserton · 07/01/2021 12:28

Being fit and healthy isn't a good thing to rely on either with Covid. Sure it helps you not die (but certainly doesn't guarantee that), but seemingly does little to counteract risk of long Covid.

Cheeserton · 07/01/2021 12:30

Oh, and obviously it won't help stop you passing it to others either.

This is the thing people don't seem to get. It doesn't just affect you. Every person here who wants to be an exception you can times by millions. Again, this requires everyone and there is no other way out.

Cheeserton · 07/01/2021 12:34

I'm happy to do my bit for society in other ways..

Yeah, just not help control the pandemic. Because this is the ONLY way to actually do it.

If you disagree, please outline your plan for getting rid of this sufficiently to regain something like our old lives back within a couple of years. Let's hear it please.

GypsyLee · 07/01/2021 12:37

I'm waiting to see how the guinea pigs react to it, before taking it myself.
Early days yet.
