To ask if you're not getting the vaccine...

Then why? Just curious as to why some people will not get it

OP posts:
Cheeserton · 07/01/2021 14:55

I don't think that I should be coerced in such a manner though. Neither do I believe that all those desperate for the vaccine on here are doing it for the common good. Most, I suspect, are looking after themselves. I'm doing likewise

I want it for the benefit of me, my family, my colleagues and ALL those I come into contact with, but very obviously also because this fucking situation needs to stop! You do not have to have delusions of altruism to understand that the ONLY way this stops is with sufficient vaccination coverage.

Yet again, I'll ask: what is your alternative plan here? What will get businesses open, work back towards normal, kids back in school and everyone's health protected?

The only thing 'coercing' anything and anyone is the virus.

Do you give any thought to what happens when you have what would under normal circumstances be a relatively routine (but perhaps serious) other illness or accident, but the hospitals are all fucked? It won't matter what your selfish views on Covid vaccines are at that point, you'll quite possibly just die of something treatable, or perhaps one of your loved ones.

What is your plan???

BooFuckingHoo2 · 07/01/2021 14:56

I’m young with no underlying health conditions and I’ve already had Covid.

I’ll be having the vaccine because I’m neither stupid nor selfish. I want to play my part to help us as a society achieve herd immunity so we can all hopefully go back to normal.

I believe i have a moral responsibility to have the vaccine to help protect those who cannot have it for medical reasons and the small percentage of people for whom it won’t work.

Can the people saying it’s been “rushed” or “not tested enough” please explain to me what further testing or approval process they’d like it to go through Confused.

titchy · 07/01/2021 14:58

@mummy2oli

I’m not refusing as such.. just waiting. I am cautious as it’s an unknown vaccine, not been tested enough and nobody knows long term side effects. I’m not sure if I have finished having children yet.
It's been tested as much as all other drugs Confused

Yes! All of this! Some people can't have it, but those who can absolutely should. It's about collective responsibility!
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 07/01/2021 15:02

@sheeshazAZ09 well your vitamins didn't stop you getting it then ?

Skysblue · 07/01/2021 15:04

Gimme the vaccine! Gimme! What was the point of my doing all this distancing and lockdowns and home education if I just catch it next winter when the nhs will be in tatters but it will obviously still be circulating given the number of idiots who’ve read conspiracy theories instead turning to reputable sources.

I don’t wanna die of covid, or spend months on a ventilator or get scarred lungs or have ‘long covid’ which sounds horrible. I would like some lovely vaccine please.

Gimme!

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 07/01/2021 15:07

I will have the vaccine but i have told my 17 year old and 15 year old ( will be 16 soon) that it is their choice although may be there age will never get or be a long way off
I had flu jab for first time this year and had that more to protect others than myself although i do fall into one of the riskier groups.
Also I do wonder if going abroad etc may be reliant on having jabs or multiple tests etc ?

@godimabitch anyone of us risks passing it on to a vunerable person anytime you meet or deal or have a interaction with another person. That person could be vulnerable .
Its your choice to have or nit but there is no way of knowing you would def not pass it onto a vunerable person , any of us could unknowingly

@WiseUpJanetWeiss

I've posted it below along with the consultants page, he is definitely worth following on Facebook Smile

Having not having it will only become an issue once you are offered it and at the moment from amongst those who are eligible for it I don't know anyone who has declined.
Who are all these people who are being pressured to have it? They don't yet have enough so I doubt anyone will be pressured for atleast another year yet if not more

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 07/01/2021 15:24

Try to take than on board whilst you work out how to peer beyond the end of your own selfish nose.

@Janegrey333 We're all selfish. That includes you. Trust me ....

Suzi888 · 07/01/2021 15:26

“No, I don't get vaccines for other things with that high a survival rate for my age group unnecessarily; so I won't get one for this. Less medication I actually need in my body, the better.” Agree with this. Also confused that the figures are so high we must already be hurtling towards her immunity, why do I need a vaccine to achieve that.
There are others much more in need than me.

There seems to be a misconception that you get to the vaccine, can no longer get covid and can whip your mask off and gondola the pubHmm. No you won’t be!

Suzi888 · 07/01/2021 15:26

Go down even!

EngineeringFix · 07/01/2021 15:27

I'm a long way towards the back of the queue. I'll get one some time I expect. We appear to have millions of doses on order. Just a matter of time.

Caplin · 07/01/2021 15:29

@ragged

It hasn't been offered...

I intend to decline this year and before I'm much older because

  • I am not afraid of the illness. I don't seek out flu jabs each year, either, or generally make huge efforts to avoid catching germs.

  • I am fed up with being told what to do for almost 1 year. I have a tiny bit of autonomy to reclaim.

It is crap like this that makes me angry. OK, so you aren't afraid of the virus, but it isn't about you. My friend's daughter had chemo, she lost all her immunity, a cold could have killed her. You and your unvaccinated kids could kill her because you 'aren't scared'. Because of people like you she has to stay shielded at home along with everyone who else who would love a vaccine but can't have one.
NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 07/01/2021 15:29

But you’ll accept the benefits (i.e. a return to normal and what you enjoy doing) of other people having the vaccine?

Yes. I'm not sure how I can do anything other, really.

It's a bit like the higher education strikes. We voted to strike. I went out on strike to protect my pension and those of the future generations of academic and professional services staff. Many people chose not to. I was happy to fight. Likewise I was happy for those who didn't to share the benefits.

yulelogc · 07/01/2021 15:32

I'm pregnant so no, it's not advised to.

fuckrightoff · 07/01/2021 15:33

I thought the vaccine stopped you getting symptoms as bad but not necessarily stopped you from contracting/passing it on? So really don't understand all the lunatics shouting 'selfish' to those saying no when the only ones affected will be the ones who refuse it Hmm

Caplin · 07/01/2021 15:36

@fuckrightoff

I thought the vaccine stopped you getting symptoms as bad but not necessarily stopped you from contracting/passing it on? So really don't understand all the lunatics shouting 'selfish' to those saying no when the only ones affected will be the ones who refuse it Hmm
A vaccine isn't a shield, if you get covid it helps the body fight off the infection so you don't get ill.
NothingICanDo · 07/01/2021 15:40

Reasons I wont be getting it have all pretty much been mentioned by others.

But mainly its because
I never take flu jabs or any medication anyway that I can avoid. And I would prefer to take my chances.

Also wouldn't get.injected with somthing I dont know much about. I keep researching but finding conflicting ideas. Mew info every day etc.

We dont know anything for
sure...except that most recover

so that's why Im choosing to take my chances.

Also nobody can be sure this vaccine can do anything for these mutated strains and any future mutations so I just cant get on board with it now.

NothingICanDo · 07/01/2021 15:41

A vaccine isn't a shield, if you get covid it helps the body fight off the infection so you don't get ill

Yes this is my understanding of it. But I had a friend call me selfish and 'dangerous to the public ' by walking around unvaccinated...Confused

BooFuckingHoo2 · 07/01/2021 15:44

There seems to be a misconception that you get to the vaccine, can no longer get covid and can whip your mask off and gondola the pubhmm. No you won’t be!

I haven’t seen anyone say this Flowers the idea is with mass vaccination we will hopefully be able to return to normal in the future.

I thought the vaccine stopped you getting symptoms as bad but not necessarily stopped you from contracting/passing it on? So really don't understand all the lunatics shouting 'selfish' to those saying no when the only ones affected will be the ones who refuse it

There is some evidence to suggest that it does reduce transmission. Also, common sense would suggest that if you’re not coughing then you’re less likely to pass it around.
As for “the only ones who’ll be affected are the ones who refuse it” are you joking?! We’re seeing the result of rampant Covid right now, if there is a low vaccine take up rate then we will ALL be affected.

BooFuckingHoo2 · 07/01/2021 15:47

*A vaccine isn't a shield, if you get covid it helps the body fight off the infection so you don't get ill

Yes this is my understanding of it. But I had a friend call me selfish and 'dangerous to the public ' by walking around unvaccinated...*

I’ll reiterate my point above:

There is some evidence to suggest that it does reduce transmission. Also, common sense would suggest that if you’re not coughing then you’re less likely to pass it around.

Logic would also suggest that the quicker you fight off the infection, the less days you’re contagious for, which has a clear benefit!

NothingICanDo · 07/01/2021 15:50

There is some evidence to suggest that it does reduce transmission
Some evidence...suggests, isn't enough for me.
I understand it is for others though and respect others choices.
This is why it's a choice and not mandatory.
