Have sent their own kids into school this week under key worker provision.

OP posts:

I wasn't sending my toddler to my in laws/nursery...and then parents complained that she kept talking throughout our class Zoom sessions, and that I wasn't quick enough at responding to a message between 6 and 7pm when I was putting her to bed....

  1. Make it clear school hours are between 9-3. You will of course go above and beyond outside of these hours to respond to lessons but like everyone else you have a family.
  1. I bet your pupils found it cute!!!! I get it's difficult and can see why you have it all day but if it's short zoom and odd interruption I'm surprised parents make such a fuss. Surely their own kids were toddlers once!

Thanks @itsgettingweird. Headteacher essentially told them to jog on (in a polite way) but of course with the threat of Ofsted complaints we don't want to wind up the pushy minority!

Well yeah Gavla the test head hasn't helped by fuelling discontent and encouraging parents to complain.

No idea what his game is but he seems intent on making teachers some kind of public enemy

I can see it and I'm not a teacher!

Allthebubbles · 08/01/2021 15:42

I haven't but I work part time and my husband works from home.

You may be right 🤣

I am a KW (education) and my ds also has a EHCP.

I've been told I'm mad numerous times for keeping him home and taking on some of the input stuff myself.

They seem to overlook a very pertinent point. That is many of us who have been working in schools know exactly what they are like - and so won't send our children in!

My hope is schools have reduced numbers enough that we don't start seeing mass outbreaks and closures and therefore disadvantaging those who genuinely do need the space and reducing our critical workers doing critical work!

ImperialLeather00 · 08/01/2021 18:26

We’ve had to send ours in.
I’m teaching live lessons 2 days a week and in school 3 days a week.
Partner is a police officer. I wish we didn’t have too but with a 5 & 7 year old, what’s the alternative?

TrashedWarrior · 08/01/2021 19:00

No, he's at home with Dh when I'm in.

InspectorAlleyn · 08/01/2021 19:12

Not a chance. I am in school full-time and DH is a critical worker (but can work from home) so we are eligible for a place. I’d give up my job before I sent the DC to school.

Dogscatsandsparrows · 08/01/2021 19:16

Why are you wondering that, OP?

No my 3 dc are not in school although I will be in 2 days a week. None of my colleagues are putting their dc in either apart from one support assistant who will have her DS in school on the days she is in. Otherwise the schools would be full of staff supervising education staff dc...absolute madness. Same across our cluster and at least 2 neighbouring clusters.

Hangingtrousers · 08/01/2021 19:24

My 2 children are going in to school when I'm in 3 days every fortnight. DH and I share the homeschool when I'm timetabled to be at home.
Baby is going to nursery as normal.
Reading these posts I feel like a terrible parent.😢

RaggieDolls · 08/01/2021 19:37

There are 9 in in my eldest's class. 5 are children of TAs and teachers. There are 6 in the youngest's class, 2 are children of TAs.

RaggieDolls · 08/01/2021 19:43

I should add, that was today. It seems to have varied each day.

TheBuffster · 08/01/2021 19:43

@Hangingtrousers don't you dare feel bad. You are a keyworker and have a perfect right to ensure your children are safe and supervised.
I imagine OP is angry because the government have insisted this is a lockdown, whilst allowing every company and their dog to insist parents work. Therefore parents are caught between wondering how they can go to work and safely look after children.
Of course this always end up being teacher's fault somehow.
Probably because we were too trusting to predict Monday's massive u turn.

Farcry66 · 08/01/2021 19:48

I've had my yr8 and my yr2 child at home with me this week. My yr2 child has learnt all sorts of things from joining in with my lessons this week ..... next week he is going in to school for 2 days a week as he has speech delay and me ignoring him for 5 hours a day isn't great for him. But he goes to a tiny village school with only 35 kids on role anyway, on Monday he will be 1 of 3 and on Tuesday, 1 of 4 so I don't feel bad about it. My yr8 child will stay at home though as he can get on with his work without me.

moonfacebaby · 08/01/2021 19:53

Nope, mine are at home with me, whilst I deliver online lessons. It’s no bother for the eldest as she’s 15.
My youngest isn’t getting much homeschooling at all. She’s not responsive, is missing school and it’s a bugger trying to squeeze it in around my lessons,
I’m a single parent too, which adds a whole other level of pain to it.

I feel like I’m suffocating here. Just this sense of not doing anything as effectively as I want to do - teach my students, support my kids and just function as a bloody adult.

I have no issue with any other teacher sending their kids in - we are mostly a conscientious bunch, and will only do that if we have no choice.

HippoNamedBooBooButt · 08/01/2021 20:01

Myself and DH are both critical workers - I'm a Primary school Head teacher and he is on 24 hour call as a gas engineer and plumber. My DS is in school five days a week as we both work 5 days a week. I also feel like a terrible parent but there is no other option
