Have sent their own kids into school this week under key worker provision.

Tyranttoddler · 06/01/2021 22:13

My 2 year old is in nursery 3 days. I can't live teach with her around. I look forward to attempting it tomorrow.

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 06/01/2021 22:14

I'm a TA and DD is in. I'm required to be in, all(teaching) day ,every day.

OH is in construction so he works out of the home.

What else am I supposed to do?

Backtoblack1 · 06/01/2021 22:15

Not me and none of my 80 colleagues have either. But please remember that we are also trying to home school our own children whilst teach yours. What’s the issue if we do?

Madreb · 06/01/2021 22:17

I have, I have to be in school physically to deliver online lessons all day (secondary) My dh is a nurse.
What should we have done?

hopingforabrighterfuture2021 · 06/01/2021 22:24

Yes I have. I am physically in school full time and DH is a key worker too.

itsgettingweird · 08/01/2021 06:56

Not me.

Was offered a place as son also has ehcp but I said no thanks whilst it's like it is now and I may revisit after half term if numbers are significantly lower.

wheresmyhairytoe · 08/01/2021 07:01

I'm in a nursery so have had to send mine in to school. Not happy about it but no choice.
Early Years staff are immune and under 5s are so good at social distancing and never sneeze, cough or dribble on us. Oh wait.

Nursery has most parents who don't work but all but 2 children are in.

StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2021 07:01

Don't feel the need to justify yourselves people. This is ridiculous.

TheeOthermother · 08/01/2021 07:01

I’m in school so my eldest who can work independently at home (just about and not without quite a few tears trying to get to grips with the technology) is at home and my younger one is in school.
I’m a bit fed up of being made to feel guilty when there are children with SAHP attending.
Thankfully our case rates are fairly low currently but I keep a close eye on them and the surrounding areas. Not sure what I’ll do if it looks scary. Take unpaid leave I guess.

rosy71 · 08/01/2021 07:05

No but mine are secondary age so ok at home together.

user1471530109 · 08/01/2021 07:12

My Head insisted I put my own kids in school and go into school to do my live lessons (expectation will be that all staff are on site. Not to supervise, but to do their live lessons Hmm). I've been doing them at home and supporting my two with their home learning. Yes, it's been bloody hard. But to out them in school would massively increase our household contacts (I'm vulnerable as is my youngest).

I'll be honest, I've had enough right now. Surely this goes against government guidance?

OxoMonarch · 08/01/2021 07:14

Mine are in 3 days a week (one pre-school, one school) No way I could work if they weren’t. As it is I’m covering a colleagues lessons today, unpaid as it’s normally my day off, and have them both around. It’s going to be interesting.
We had Covid in October/November however, so from that point of view should be fine.

parrotonmyshoulder · 08/01/2021 07:15

My 11 year old is home alone. My 7 year old is in school. I am in school all day.

3littlewords · 08/01/2021 07:28

@VashtaNerada

Same as *@lavenderlou* - when I’m in school teaching, my DC use keyworker spaces but when I’m working from home they’re with me. Dreading my work from home days when I have to live teach terrified they’ll walk in!
From a parent point of view who has been sat with my ds watching his teacher from home, please don't worry if they do walk in , its life at the moment. Im sure you've seen younger siblings getting on your pupils screens or Mum or Dad hoovering or cleaning up in the background. Your human, you have an actual life as well as being a teacher. We are all in each others homes at the moment, none of it is easy or simple, its just the way it is
Nellodee · 08/01/2021 07:33

My two, both older primary, are at home with me. My classes do occasionally get to hear them and hear me talking to them, but that’s COVID life. I appreciate some home workers need confidentiality and privacy, though.

UglyHoose · 08/01/2021 07:51

Not a teacher but work in a school and am in working. Mine is old enough to be by self but if I had to then I would.

andadietcoke · 08/01/2021 07:57

We have. DH is PE so they're in FT covering keyworker and vulnerable kids. In the first lockdown he was at home pretty much all the time so he looked after the DTs while I worked (also critical worker) and we didn't take up the places.

SchrodingersUnicorn · 08/01/2021 07:58

No way. Much too risky and not fair on her teachers if we can manage with her at home. I'm doing a full timetable of live lessons but DH works from home too so we are struggling through. Spending all my PPA time and lunch doing DDs work and catching up in the evenings. It's a nightmare and she is having too much tv whilst we work but knowing what schools are like I won't send her in if there is any alternative.

shittingthreeeyedraven · 08/01/2021 08:01

Mine has gone to nursery (if that counts) as we are both key workers and can’t look after them and work full time in essential roles. If you want your children taught, mine has to go in. Simple but sad truth there

Sittinbythetree · 08/01/2021 08:05

Was going to but they are at my school - 50% are in, so we’ve kept them at home to a) avoid transmission b)help my colleagues/ school. Please keep them at home if you can!

30not13 · 08/01/2021 08:07

@Sjjr23

How many key worker places are being taken by the kids of nursery staff.....who have to work to look after 'non key worker' children? Who need the 'socialisation'? Don't we all!!!!
Two in my childs class, so 20% of the group. School wide I know there are a couple more who are early years workers but I dont know if they are in.
Nellodee · 08/01/2021 08:07

I don't think I could have done my job at home if my children were a few years younger. My oldest daughter used to have two hour sensory meltdowns, so no, that wouldn't have really worked alongside live lessons. The keyworker rules aren't very nuanced with regard to how much you -need- the space, just whether or not you're -entitled- to it. It seems like most teachers are being quite sensible and only using the places when absolutely needed.

30not13 · 08/01/2021 08:10

And we are a 2 kw household rule in my LA, until I am furloughed my child has to go in against my judgement as we have nobody else available (the few family members around are all KW themselves)

sherrystrull · 08/01/2021 08:27

I have. No choice. Dp and I are both working out of the house in schools. Last lockdown we didn't

itsgettingweird · 08/01/2021 09:11

Kids walking in on zoom lessons, live streams etc is the funniest and cutest thing usually for all those watching.

We've seen it with journalists etc.

It's usually the person delivering who feels bad but I think we've moved away too much as a society from accepting these things. Kids are
Kids. They'll announce they need a poo at the most inopportune moments!

I loved when Laura Tobin was doing the weather once and her DD came and climbed her her lap.
