Have sent their own kids into school this week under key worker provision.

Strictly1 · 06/01/2021 17:24

I'm in school all day, every day but my child is at home with his dad.

whatkatydid2013 · 06/01/2021 17:27

My brother has and one of my friends. Brothers wife works at Tesco and friends husband is a police officer. Brother and friend both physically in schools themselves or say they’d have kept them at home

Biscuitsneeded · 06/01/2021 17:28

Luckily mine are old enough to stay at home. But I really wouldn't want to send them in. However it is my turn on keyworker duty on Friday so I will be teaching live online lessons from a room with keyworker kids in, also all connected up to computers, with windows open whatever the weather and I'm afraid also wearing my mask! Not sure any kids at home will understand anything I say but I feel the need!

maddy68 · 06/01/2021 17:29

No way would I send my own children in

sweetkitty · 06/01/2021 17:31

No I haven’t I’m a SEN teacher so in full time. My own children will be at hole with their Dad who is WFH FT whilst trying to homeschool them.

OhioOhioOhio · 06/01/2021 17:31

I'm a single parent with 3 young kids. Who do you suggest I let down, me or my class?

whatkatydid2013 · 06/01/2021 17:32

My brother is an amazing chemistry teacher who has children in his sixth form who consistently exceed expectations on their a-level results. He’s also dyslexic (& human) so sometimes makes a mistake. Can’t get over the fact some people believe spelling is more important than ability to inspire a bit of passion in a subject.

Chickoletta · 06/01/2021 17:34

No. I’m a teacher and DH is a farm vet, so out at work all day. I have taught live online lessons all day and my DCs (7&10) have got on with their own remote learning in their rooms. I know that their primary school teachers are tearing their hair out at some of the families who are taking up key worker places when at least one parent is at home and could be overseeing them.

SnapeSnapeSeverusSnape · 06/01/2021 17:36

I'm a TA, my secondary aged children are home as they can be there alone, my primary aged is in school. There were lots of children of teachers in at my school.

bluechameleon · 06/01/2021 17:36

It was made clear to us by our head that we had to. I've managed to juggle it with DH so I'm only using 1 day but I'd really rather not.

Bobbybobbins · 06/01/2021 17:39

I have. Two DS with SEN and we both with out of the home - I'm a secondary teacher. Both have had close contact months ago with TAs who subsequently tested positive (asymptomatic) so pretty sure we've all had it.

motherrunner · 06/01/2021 17:39

I have. I’m teaching live lessons to timetable.

pointycow · 06/01/2021 17:42

Why ask such a shitty and devisive question @shitsngiggles1?

ChristmasinJune · 06/01/2021 17:42

I have, for now. I have pretty much a full class at my SEND school so needed at least a couple of days a fortnight. I applied then withdrew my application on the basis that other people probably needed it more but they contacted me and said "no send him in full time there's plenty of room"
So he's in for now, but I'm only expecting that to last another week or so then we'll either withdraw due to rising numbers or get asked to keep him at home to reduce numbers. It'll be his dad who ends up working until 2am again as his work's more flexible. Sad

noblegiraffe · 06/01/2021 17:43

@pointycow

Why ask such a shitty and devisive question *@shitsngiggles1*?
With their first post too.
PotteringAlong · 06/01/2021 17:44

Yes, I have. DH and I both secondary teachers, both required to be in school...

mrsm43s · 06/01/2021 17:45

I imagine some will and some won't depending on their situation.

As long as their children are safely looked after, and the teachers are able to do their very important job, it's not really anyone else's business how they manage their childcare arrangements.

Barbie222 · 06/01/2021 17:46

No, it's a nightmare, but it's the right thing if I'm not in school. When I do my key worker weeks in the building my youngest will have to come in.

Freddiefox · 06/01/2021 17:50

@Sjjr23

How many key worker places are being taken by the kids of nursery staff.....who have to work to look after 'non key worker' children? Who need the 'socialisation'? Don't we all!!!!
This.... 4 of my staff have to send our children to school, so 8 children in total to look after children (none of them are keyworkers, one is potentially vulnerable.) we are sessional, open 9-12 the parents do not use us to work.
Freddiefox · 06/01/2021 17:53

@Sjjr23 should point out that none of us want to send our children, but we and partners are all keyworkers. It’s such a waste of a keyworker spaces.

DipSwimSwoosh · 06/01/2021 17:54

Yes. My dh is out at work and I am delivering live lessons all day. My kids are primary and going in as I couldn't teach and care for them.

flumposie · 06/01/2021 18:06

No. My daughter is either alone completing work as I live teach or sat next to me as I adapt resources. Yesterday was horrendous, today better, but I do not want her in school.

TheBuffster · 06/01/2021 18:09

I'm on maternity leave so sahm atm. Teacher hubby is teaching 7am-9pm. Poor hubby missing out on baby's first year as asleep by the time he's finished. Difficult time as ds has MRI to confirm cp tomorrow. Feels horrible to know people teacher bash us and have no idea of what we're going through. DH really a hero as helps share night with me as lo up every hour. Deserves a medal, not contempt.

CorvusPurpureus · 06/01/2021 18:09

No - lone parent & teaching online, but luckily mine are teenagers. Don't get me wrong, keeping them on task is a flipping nightmare.

I have a google doc for each day of the week. Each morning all 4 of us update it with whatever's been posted on Google Classroom - eg. Ds, period 1, global politics, attend zoom & then complete essay due Thursday etc etc. Then every change of lesson each dc colour blocks that bit of the grid green/amber/red to indicate whether everything's fine/work still to do/big problem.

We review it after dinner & trouble shoot anything that's gone completely tits up.

If they were tots, I guess they'd have to go in as an absolutely last resort - but I'd avoid if at all possible as a) they are safer at home & b) the fewer kids are in, the safer everyone who has to use the places is.

Sjjr23 · 06/01/2021 18:14

@Freddiefox - totally appreciate that. You are being sorely let down by the government. I hope for another u turn soon x
