Have sent their own kids into school this week under key worker provision.

Not me.

DH works for NHS but is WFH atm, I can teach remotely so we're juggling it between us.

It's not worth the risk.

Smartiepants79 · 06/01/2021 18:20

They are key workers, if they have to be in school looking after the children of other key workers their kids will be in school.
I’m a teacher and if I didn’t have decent childcare alternatives my kids would be at their schools.

year5teacher · 06/01/2021 18:20

I couldn’t possibly begin to guess what your motivation for posting this is! Smile

IndecentFeminist · 06/01/2021 18:44

I'm at work, they're at work with me. Same for a few other members of staff.

SunKeepsShining · 06/01/2021 18:46

The one I know couldn’t wait to send her kids in to primary key worker hub! But then again they think covid is just a cold, schools should be open and vulnerable people allowed to die so they can keep seeing their friends in the house and send their kids to all their after school clubs.
Other school teacher friend wants to keep hers at home for safety as long as possible.

Kitcat122 · 06/01/2021 18:56

Wish they were but I've kept them safely home with Dad who is WFH.

Moonflower12 · 06/01/2021 20:30

I have had to. DP is frontline emergency services. I am Early Years so we are in with a full nursery.

sheworkshardforthemoney · 06/01/2021 21:00

0 from our school hub today

2boysand1princess · 06/01/2021 21:08

My close friend is a teacher and has 2 boys. One in year 6 and other in year 10. Anyway, I asked her if she sent her kids in and she her exact words were “are you mad? No chance. Staying at home with me and if I can’t cope i will get signed off, but won’t send kids to school” she’s a single mum and head of her dept in a very large secondary.
I was shocked she was so against it, especially with her workload 🤷‍♀️

Grace58 · 06/01/2021 21:13

I haven't, we have an existing childcare bubble with grandparents for my youngest, and even though we were eligible for a keyworker place, I'd rather have her homeschooled away from as many people as possible at the moment.

Aleciahartismyhero · 06/01/2021 21:13

I have, both of mine (young primary) in full time while I teach full timetable of online lessons in school and dh is nhs. I’d rather they weren’t there but no other choice, physically couldn’t teach 5 full hours online and care for them as well as home schooling them

lavenderlou · 06/01/2021 21:13

I send mine in (primary) on the days I have to physically be in school. DH also a teacher delivering live lessons all day or also on-site some days with key worker /vulnerable students.

On the days I am working from home, they stay home with me. It means I have to record lessons in my bedroom but so be it.

manicinsomniac · 06/01/2021 21:15

My 6 year old is in our key worker bubble, yes.

My 13 and 18 year old are at home because they can be totally independent and if they went to school they'd have to go on the train every day. They'd like to go to school but there's no need.

My colleagues are generally the same. Under about 12, yes, they're in school. Teenagers aren't.

But I'm a single parent and need to be in school.

I'm not afraid of me and my children getting covid at all. If we do, we do. The chances of being very ill are tiny. But I am terrified of this lockdown dragging on and on so I wouldn't put children into school uneccessarily. If the schools were all open, I'd send them in without a second thought.

VashtaNerada · 06/01/2021 21:16

Same as @lavenderlou - when I’m in school teaching, my DC use keyworker spaces but when I’m working from home they’re with me. Dreading my work from home days when I have to live teach terrified they’ll walk in!

BlackeyedSusan · 06/01/2021 21:23

two of dd's lessons had background child noises. so not all of them have sent them in.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/01/2021 21:26

(not a complaint, just an observation)

VashtaNerada · 06/01/2021 21:37

That’s so going to be me next week @BlackeyedSusan Grin Just hope there’s not too much actual fighting and/or swearing...

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 06/01/2021 21:46

Ha, I just include my child in some lessons. She's a year younger than them. I included her during last lockdown too. My class parents don't mind, and my class love it.

RulewithaWoodenFoot My eldest is actually going to teach some of my dance lessons with (or maybe even for!) me this time. She's a much better dancer than me nowadays. If this drags on and she doesn't get enough work from her school, she might TA for some of my drama classes too. Much easier to monitor the break out rooms with more 'adult' help! Wink

Alwaysready · 06/01/2021 21:57

Nope, I've offered to drop to part time in order to stay home 3 days a week so as not to send them. Too dangerous and not fair on the teachers.

Timpani · 06/01/2021 22:07

Me
No choice.
Both of us are teachers and we have to be in our own schools. I'm part time but they're not allowed part time places.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 06/01/2021 22:10

No way!
Still far too much risk imo.

Bargebill19 · 06/01/2021 22:10

Non of the teachers or TAs that I know, have sent their children to school.

BlackeyedSusan · 06/01/2021 22:12

@VashtaNerada. Yep. that teacher vibe does not work on your own.
