If you did mix over Christmas

Is there anyone now unwell as a result? The number of cases today is daunting and deaths are over 1000, the timeline would correspond with it being the Christmas period it would have been caught. I was thinking about this and wondering if anyone is aware that someone they saw over christmas is now unwell as a result?

My dd lives in a residential care home because she's disabled.

She came home from the 23rd until the 3rd of Jan. We all had to be tested before she came home and DD was tested before returning.

Other than DD we only saw my sister for an hour on New year's day.........she would have been alone otherwise and had been for most of Christmas

None of us have picked up covid and nobody in my family has contracted covid yet. We are careful day to day, whilst we may take an assessed risk if needed we wouldn't be thick enough to be throwing house parties.

Inkpaperstars · 06/01/2021 18:00

We didn’t see anyone at all over Christmas. I know of several people who cancelled mixing plans at the last minute and thank goodness they did as they have now tested positive. It stands to reason that many in the same position didn’t cancel.

It’s really important to remember that just because no one you mixed with has had symptoms or tested positive, doesn’t mean the mixing wasn’t spreading covid. So many are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms that don’t prompt them to test. They may still be spreading it, and suffering lung changes themselves. Down the line they have possibly contributed to other more severe cases, a rise in numbers and chances for mutation.

Many people on here who mixed took a lot of precautions, isolating before and after etc. The trouble is in the general population loads didn’t.

Ninkanink · 06/01/2021 18:00

@wildraisins

Lots of people on here smugly saying that they mixed and are not ill.

Also a few saying that they mixed and ARE ill.

That is pretty much what was expected and of course the numbers have gone up because of Christmas mixing. If you mixed and didn't get Covid - yay for you? You broke the rules and got away with it, some broke the rules and didn't get away with it, and some were just sensible and stayed home.

What?

We mixed because we could.

And I’m not smug about not being ill, I’m just answering the question that was asked.

Mia85 · 06/01/2021 18:00

My friend saw her parents for the first time in the pandemic for Christmas lunch. Her 6 year old was asymptomatic and they had no idea at the time. She and her father have been in hospital the past 2 days both on oxygen.

QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 06/01/2021 18:01

@AlexaShutUp

I'm not sure people would admit to illness through Christmas mixing anyway

This. I don't believe that many who chose to mix at Christmas will admit that they made the wrong decision...even if they know it deep down

Purely anecdotal but a social media group for NHS professionals reported yesterday an increasing strange vagueness about history/timelines on the part of a number of patients presenting with Covid-like symptoms
InterfectoremVulpes · 06/01/2021 18:01

The figures reported today are not the figures of people who tested postive today they include tests carried out previously that have only just been reported. The same goes for deaths. Around 20% of deaths reported today actually occurred more than a week ago.

Figures are still bad though, just not as bad as they appear.

addictedtotheflats · 06/01/2021 18:02

Yes my mum whos in our bubble came for xmas. She tested positive Christmas day and my DP few days later. Been in isolation since my DM was in hospital for 11 days quite unwell.

NourishedOutdoors · 06/01/2021 18:02

I know of one family who mixed with around 20 people over three days (and another 5) at New Years, although some of them may have been in the original 20. They have all tested positive, including a person with cancer.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 18:02

Too many judgemental people on here , many have caught from work and school as well or the shops
Its not always possible to determine when , some who mixed at xmas will be support bubbles who can mix anyway
My nan went to my aunties xmas day as she would if been on her own but as she is part of her support bubble she can go there whenever , but according to some she should of stayed at home on her own and had a bit if turkey posted through the letterbox
All everyone is doing is looking for someone else to blame , a lot if cases are caught in hospital should we blame them next. People are struggling and for some xmas was a little lifeline and might help them get through the next few months .

Ha! That says it all, really!

lozjay · 06/01/2021 18:02

Mixed with one household on Christmas Day no one has since been ill and also not any one I know who also mixed is ill either 🤷🏼‍♀️

TatianaBis · 06/01/2021 18:02

We didn't mix over Christmas but I actually think it was the relaxation of the rules on December 2 and people going out Christmas shopping and partying before that has caused the current problems.

lozjay · 06/01/2021 18:04

People are getting around the rules by lying that people are in their bubble just so they can avoid not seeing people

BungleandGeorge · 06/01/2021 18:05

Christmas mixing was allowed for areas with lower incidence of covid. Support bubbles (proper ones, not just a random ever changing mix of people!) are allowed. Whether it was the wisest choice is debatable but acting within the rules isn’t in the same category as ignoring them. Tier 4 had different rules for a reason because of the much higher risk

InterfectoremVulpes · 06/01/2021 18:05

This chart shows the actual date todays cases tested postive on. Obviously todays date will have more added to it over the next few days, but it does show the importance of looking at the figures by test date rather than report date

If you did mix over Christmas
Pootle40 · 06/01/2021 18:05

Yes mixed on Christmas Day no saw my aunt on New Year's Day (extended household). Nobody ill and never have been

Yes, we mixed. No, we didn't break the rules. Not everyone was under level 4 restrictions - we were allowed 2 other households and this is what we did. My DB and my DD who both live alone.
delightfuldaisy19 · 06/01/2021 18:07

@pissoffwhydontyou

No didn't mix over Christmas , but just having driven home ( lawfully from work ) 20 mins ago you wouldn't think we were in lock down far too many people about, I don't consider standing chatting on the pavement as daily exercise No wonder we are in this mess , idiot people making any excuse as to why they are not complying
God forbid, people dare to stop and speak to someone.

I've just been for a run and saw a neighbour on my way back - we chatted for a few minutes it was lovely and she is the first person I've spoken to in 4 days. It was freezing cold, pitch black and she was on the other side of the road - but it was lovely.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 06/01/2021 18:07

We had a close call. Had partners mum and husband over for lunch on Christmas day and they came down with it a couple of days later. We've been fine fortunately.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 18:07

@wildraisins we were allowed and a lot of the mixing was bubbles that are allowed to mix anyway
Its not smug and for those saying well you could of contributed to it maybe but maybe you going to work and then the supermarket did , maybe you got slightly too close to someone without realising and you had it , why blame people.
Understandable if people had a huge party and loads of comings and goings , its like people hope the numbers go up to prove their point , most of europe allowed limited mixing at xmas , because they have to consider peoples mental health and other things as well , it a balancing act .

mumwalk · 06/01/2021 18:08

@alexashutup totally agree.

CremeEggThief · 06/01/2021 18:08

No. DS and I saw or spoke to nobody in person, apart from other walkers in passing on our short walk on Boxing Day, and the two takeaways we had delivered. That was between the evening of Wednesday 23rd December when I got home from work and the 29th, when I returned to work.

I had 5 days off work and was home between the evening of the 31st and this morning. Only left the house for 2 walks in that time- a 10 minute walk on Sunday and 40 minutes yesterday. I did speak to an elderly neighbour outside who I hadn't seen for a few months for 5 minutes yesterday.

I have to travel 15 miles by bus each way every day to my office job, so I'm very conscious of staying at home as much as possible.

Babybaby432 · 06/01/2021 18:10

Yes we saw family but they had already have COVID recently. I know it isn’t guaranteed they won’t get it again but we have all been fine since Christmas.

Jenasaurus · 06/01/2021 18:11

I didnt start this thread to be judgemental, I was just genuinely curious as to whether anyone who met up over Christmas and as others have said, tier 2 were alllowed to mix. have caught the virus.

I was originally meeting up with my sons and their girlfriends, (I live with my daugher and her boyfriend, so that would have been the allowed 3 households, but then then one of my sons GF and my daughters bf wanted to see teir family (which is understandable) and things got complicated, so much so when my sons area was put into tier 4 (Surrey) and even though my own area was tier 2 until Boxing day, it meant we could not meet up and I was relieved as the decision was made for everyone.

If they had still been in tier 2 we probably would have met for Christmas day so I am not judging, just genuinely curious to see if the data we are seeing reflects the mixing on 25th.

Babybaby432 · 06/01/2021 18:11

We were also tier 3 so allowed to mix.
