If you did mix over Christmas

Is there anyone now unwell as a result? The number of cases today is daunting and deaths are over 1000, the timeline would correspond with it being the Christmas period it would have been caught. I was thinking about this and wondering if anyone is aware that someone they saw over christmas is now unwell as a result?

I think it’s too zoom to be impacting on number of deaths. Hospitalisation perhaps?

pringlebells · 06/01/2021 17:43

Went to the in laws, no ones been positive since

HermannlovesPauline · 06/01/2021 17:44

Mixed with my parents and brother and FIL, on Christmas Day and Boxing Day everyone isolated beforehand and no one has been ill.
I’m glad we met, FIL has stage 4 bowel cancer and we think it was his last Christmas. He had a lovely day and we’ve got some great photographs.

MorrisZapp · 06/01/2021 17:45

Anyone who got Covid 'as a result of mixing' caught it from a Covid positive person, how do you know who that person is?

There's no way of knowing how anyone caught it, or who had it to start with.

oakleaffy · 06/01/2021 17:46

@GooodMythicalMorning

We didnt. We got it from Tesco. only place we went.
Yesterday a dad was in the stupourmarket with two out of control DC, rushing around, touching everything, getting really close to customers and of course shouting and no masks.

Dad was oblivious.
No mask either.
Supermarkets are risky.

notalwaysalondoner · 06/01/2021 17:46

Nope. Saw my parents, siblings (all live together) and parents in law. Everyone healthy. Another side of my family has been mixing continuously throughout covid and all are fine. Just lucky I guess. Or asymptomatic (although I doubt it as some are 70+ and one is immunocompromised).

PrincessBuggerPants · 06/01/2021 17:47

Anybody who wants to see what people who did mix and do now have family members testing positive for Covid are saying, see @Springfern 's post

*Ffs...This thread

You do realise Primark/gyms/beauty salons/schools etc were also open over Christmas*

Cornettoninja · 06/01/2021 17:48

The deaths today won’t be a result of Christmas. The case numbers will be from around that period and depending on incubation periods will likely reflect Christmas for the next week or so.

For reference the average time line is about a week to ten days from first symptoms to get into real difficulties and seek help and then another twoish weeks to either get better with medical intervention or not. People can be kept going a long time with ICU organ support.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 17:48

Yes went to parents none of us have been unwell , but we were sensible and my two teenagers had 10 days at home before going so lessened the risk slighlty

GetTheDebtGoneIn2021 · 06/01/2021 17:49

Nope. I bubbled up with several people to have a variety of booths out over Christmas, and we’re all fine. Thanks for your concern OP 👍

99victoria · 06/01/2021 17:49

We mixed with my daughter and her OH and 2 children. There were 7 of us as my other daughter, who is in our bubble was also there (so, strictly only 2 households). My daughter and her OH also met with his parents. Everyone is ok so far

middleager · 06/01/2021 17:49

I'm aware of two groups (DH's family and friends of my DM. One, a man in his 50s, is in hospital but on the mend).

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 17:51

Im not sure too many of todays figures: re deaths would be from xmas mixing as there is often a lag in reporting as well as time to get symptoms , time to become ill etc
Yes cases but not all deaths

IfTheSockFits · 06/01/2021 17:52

We didn't mix with anyone at all at Christmas.

I've now got a runny nose. Typical.

TramaDollface · 06/01/2021 17:53

Haven’t read the thread because I’m pissed basically but ... I do think they don’t release the deaths at the most accurate time, the 1000 deaths today being announced is about making is take it seriously

notangelinajolie · 06/01/2021 17:54

Yes, all 8 of us are well
6 in our household bubble - including 82 year old FIL who insisted on coming
My DB who lives alone
My DD who lives alone
I massively changed the way we do Christmas. No hugs or kisses allowed. I doubled the length of our dining table by adding an extra table and we all sat 2m apart. FIL was kept at one end where no one would need to pass by him and sat right next to the downstairs loo which only he was allowed to use. No one was allowed anywhere near him.

I usually have food in big serving dishes in the middle of the table so people can help themselves but changed all that this year. All wine poured by my DH and no condiments on the table . Any food or was brought to the table by me. No one was allowed help themselves to after dinner mints, mince pies etc and the roses chocolates were kept hidden away for me to eat later Xmas Grin

wildraisins · 06/01/2021 17:54

Lots of people on here smugly saying that they mixed and are not ill.

Also a few saying that they mixed and ARE ill.

That is pretty much what was expected and of course the numbers have gone up because of Christmas mixing. If you mixed and didn't get Covid - yay for you? You broke the rules and got away with it, some broke the rules and didn't get away with it, and some were just sensible and stayed home.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 17:54

Also stop trying to blame people who met up on xmas day as thats all this is doing
Look at the stats to see where many cases are from
Many people met on xmas day and were careful both before and other

MummaBear4321 · 06/01/2021 17:55

No. Saw parents in law on christmas day. MIL doesnt work, FIL works as a handyman outside alone, nobody sick at all since christmas.

A friend of mine saw nobody at Christmas because she thought it was too risky, but caught it from Asda when she went last week. I think these days its inevitable we will all get it eventually.

LegoPirateMonkey · 06/01/2021 17:56

We saw the one person for whom we are a support bubble. We have been to work, the supermarket and school. We wear masks, distance and wash hands religiously but we caught it from one of those places and unwittingly gave it to that person at Christmas too. It’s very hard to come here and see ghoulish salivating for stories of all the Christmas mixing followed by sickness and suffering mixed in with judgment and wishes that we wouldn’t get sick pay. We have always acted within the rules but it’s a fucking virus and no measures are 100% infallible. We have been so careful but we caught it; it’s been absolutely horrific, a truly dreadful and miserable illness and I am terrified of catching it again when our immunity wears off because if you have to go out to work, buy something from a shop ever or send your kids to school then this can happen. The condemnation of people for catching it is awful.

Not everyone who mixed on Christmas Day broke the rules. It depends on what tier you were at the time. We were still in tier 2 and was allowed to mix (we mixed with one other household).
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 06/01/2021 17:56

@ughnotthisagain36 if 2 cases has resulted in 100 people being off work there must not be much sd there , unless school classroom

rosie1959 · 06/01/2021 17:57

I saw my son with his two children they are in our bubble as well as my daughter son in law and granddaughter no rules broken
Nobody is ill

Thatwentbadly · 06/01/2021 17:57

I didn’t mix. The big problem is asymptotic spreaders.

madroid · 06/01/2021 17:59

@wildraisins

The point is they didn't break the law because Boris in his wisdom only scaled back Christmas if you remember - he didn't actually cancel it.
